The link above presents videos where Newt expresses his admiration of FDR - makes me very uncomfortable that we're running to a progressive/means justifies ends from an extreme progressive...

Newt properly observes that mittens must be vetted to ensure the republican nominee doesn't get trashed in the General Election.
This is true for _anyone_ we put up there and with consideration to _after_ the election as well as before... to include Newt himself.
They provide a link for "answering the attacks" which I used to submit the following:
The response in your 'answers' to Newt's overwhelming adoration of FDR and W. Wilson is insulting at best.
Listening to statements Newt has made makes it perfectly clear that Newt's admiration for FDR was NOT simply for his involvement in WWII. It was for FDR's 'effectiveness' in accomplishing what real conservatives have known to be and have had validated to date as a continuation of the U.S. government's inexorable push toward communism.
I want to believe Newt has repudiated large intrusive government and affirm a return to Constitutional original premises.

FDR, like many great men had flaws.
The new deal march to socialism was a serious flaw and we still suffer from its effects.
His handling of the war was pretty damned good.

I want to believe Newt has repudiated large intrusive government and affirm a return to Constitutional original premises.
The fact that he's promoting an "Environmental Solutions Agency" isn't encouraging and becomes even less encouraging as he explains it. There is just no such animal as a federal agency that "cooperates with the states and is limited in scope".
Gingrich’s list of energy policies includes providing incentives for flex fuel vehicles that can use corn-based ethanol rather than gasoline — a key issue for Iowa’s farm economy.

As far as I am concerned, Newt forfeited all credibility by talking about “ethical” capitalism, as though buying and shutting down dying businesses is not “ethical.” He obviously either does not have a clue what capitalism is, or he is willing to prostitute himself to get votes.

I suggest you read “The Theory of Moral Sentiments” by Adam Smith. Smith viewed this as a companion work to “Wealth of Nations”, unfortunately today its pretty much forgotten.
It is an argument for the necessity of “ethical capitalism”. Smith had no illusions about human nature.

Yep, God save us from the self-righteous. Does anyone really believe that Newt wouldn't have done precisely the same thing that Mitt did at Bain had he the opportunity?
I have been a big, big supporter of Newt (I was pushing for him to run back in 2008 (
Gingrich For President '08: Is His Baggage Too Heavy? ), but he really ripped that support apart with these attacks against Bain. They show just how ruthless and unprincipled he is. They also show just how reckless and reactive he can be. There were plenty of legitimate avenues for Newt to attack Mitt, but using Democrat language to attack Bain Capital wasn't one of them.
Newt will be lucky to come in second place in SC. He committed political suicide with those attacks. It's sad to see someone with so much to contribute and of such obvious quality, descend into petty and self-destructive posturing.

Haha that’s a good sense of humor.
Gingrich was the single most vetted Republican ever, prior to Governor Palin’s emergence upon the scene in 2008.
Newt’s been good and vetted.
Like nobody else.

No, that's why I referenced the videos where newt went into detail. Context is important.
Reagan's saying FDR was a giant (like the founding fathers before him) is not saying that he shared the founding fathers' view of what government should be - to me it's obvious FDR didn't.
I believe it was obvious to Reagan too.

Dr. Gingrich isn’t a bad guy, but he’s not the hyper-conservative that many Freepers want to pretend that he is. He’s no more conservative than Mitt Romney, but both of them are conservative enough to be good presidents. Of the two, I believe that Mr. Romney would be more effective. Newt Gingrich has problems leading teams for any length of time.

Bain Capital donates almost exclusively to the Democratic Party. For example, this election cycle they have donated over $350,000 to the DCCC and the Democratic Party. They were also a top contributor to Al Franken and Anthony Wiener. Why would you support a company like that?

I appreciate your view - but I'm tired my country being dragged toward communism. Both appear to me to be the type that will do just that. If Newt doesn't repudiate his progressiveness and the pubbie club puts either of them forward, they won't get my vote.

It’s a free country.
You are entitled to your opinion, as I am to disagree.
I support Gingrich mostly because I watched him stand up to Bill Clinton, watched him lead to a huge GOP resurgence, and then watched the entire liberal establishment - Clinton operatives to the media - then methodically destroy him.
The liberals were able to accomplish that how?
Because “moderate” Republicans folded like a wet rag. Abandoning Speaker Gingrich at the very moment, it was crucial for the GOP to stand together.
Just as I see Romney operatives trying to do now, and just as they did already to Palin.
Just as Romney operatives sabotaged McCain. Why, because Sarah Palin represented a challenge to Romney.
Nobody wants Romney’s Karl Rove tactics.
Gingrich is our champion. I’m so glad he’s finally pushing back. That assertiveness is very good in a president.

I think it only fair that we also work ourselves into a tizzy over some of Gingrich’s past comments — to wit, his repeated praise of big-government glorifier Franklin Delano Roosevelt, his warm words for Service Employees International Union head Andy Stern and his claim that he is a “Realpolitik Wilsonian.”
Two videos, both via The Blaze. In the first, Gingrich raves about FDR — over and over again. In the second, he proclaims himself a Wilsonian. In context, the latter doesn’t seem quite as concerning as the former, but some undertone still strikes me as ominous.”
Gingrich on numerous past occasions: FDR was the greatest president of the 20th century Every five minutes Newt claims he is a Reagan conservative. It's very annoying.

How easily Newt supporters can dismiss his “mistakes” (cozing up on Natzi Pelosi’s couch and promoting Gorebull warming, kissing up to Hitlery Clinton, re-education tour with the race-baiting poverty pimp Al Sharpton). Newt has been properly vetted. He shows that he’s for sale to the LIEberal “progressive” causes if the price is right.
