Two women will be arraigned Friday on charges stemming from the beating of a teenage girl on a MAX train.
YouTube video from the Dec. 26 attack surfaced this week, sparking outrage in the Portland area. It showed a 14-year-old girl being attacked by three other passengers on a MAX Green Line train in southeast Portland.
The cell phone video also showed others who appeared to be celebrating the attack. It didn't appear that any MAX passengers tried to intervene or stop the attack.
On Thursday, police arrested 38-year-old Selena Harris, her 18-year-old daughter Rakeshia Burns, and Burns' 16- and 13-year-old half-sisters.
The mother is being charged with hindering prosecution because officers said she hid her kids from the police and lied to keep them from getting arrested.
Her daughters are charged with assault, disorderly conduct, riot, harassment and interfering with public transportation.
Police said the YouTube video helped in the investigation -- they shared the video with the Portland Police Bureau's Youth Services Division and began to identify the suspects. Additional tips came in to investigators after the video was seen on local newscasts earlier this week.
Burns and Harris were booked into the Multnomah County Jail and will be arraigned tomorrow.
The two juvenile girls were lodged at the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Home.
Can I make an observation, and perhaps get flamed???
The observation is, there seem to be many reports of violence by young people on public transit around the country.
Liberals want all of us to use public transportation whenever we can.
However, if the feral among us are out there on public transportation, how many of us would rather drive our own car, and add to the liberal angst over carbon footprints and such, to steer clear of this senseless violence????
I may get flamed for asking the question but it sure seems that public transportation is getting more dangerous.
Corrected
Thanks to mediums like U-Tube, the always dangerous nature of public transportation is being seen by a wider audience.
(People that have been forced to use public transportation have known it was dangerous for decades!)
If you are on that train, white, and headed toward the ghetto you ARE in danger.
But of course blacks beating whites is no hate crime, just part of their right to hate you for your skin color.
Rakeshia. I don’t even have to watch the video.
“This video is unavailable
This video has been removed as a violation of YouTube’s policy prohibiting hate speech.
Sorry about that.”
Beat me by two minutes.
My daughter lives not too far from there.
Animals like this need to be put in cages and left there.
Where’s Bernie Goetz when you need him?
How dangerous would it be if every law-abiding citizen carried concealed?
Yeah, ask Bernard Goetz.
"The first shot hit Canty in the center of the chest. After the first shot my vision changed and I lost my sense of hearing. The second shot hit lightning fast Barry Allen in the upper rear shoulder as he was ducking (later the bullet was removed from his arm). The third shot hit the subway wall just in front of Cabey; the fourth shot hit Cabey in the left side (severing his spinal cord and rendering him paraplegic). The fifth shot hit Ramseur's arm on the way into his left side. I immediately looked at the first two to make sure they were "taken care of", and then attempted to shoot Cabey again in the stomach, but the gun was empty. I thought Cabey was shot twice after reading a media account no shots missed; I had lost count of the shots and while under adrenaline I didn't even hear the shots or feel the kick of the gun. 'You don't look too bad, here's another', is a phrase I came up with later when trying to explain the shooting while I was under the impression that Cabey was shot twice. Cabey, who was briefly standing prior to the shooting, was sitting on the subway bench during all attempted shots. The others were standing. Shortly after the shooting my vision and hearing returned to normal."[26]"
I grew up in New York City and I love public transportation...there was a period of about 15 years, reaching its peak during the tenure of Dinkins just before Giuliani took over, during which it was dangerous, but normally it was and is very safe. And New Yorkers do come to your aid.
I was the target of a racially motivated nutcase on a train and the people who came forward and defended me were black. So New York is probably different (in a good way) from the rest of the country.
That said, I lived in San Francisco for a few years and after the first few rides, I learned never to get on a bus at certain times of the day (when the “kids” were coming home from school) or on a bus going to certain neighborhoods, because the feral young riders would suddenly turn on any white or Asian or older Hispanic rider in the bus and attack. They didn’t attack younger Hispanics because they were armed...with a knife, but they were good at using it.
Even if they didn’t attack you, they would start taunting you, which sure made for an unpleasant ride. And the drivers didn’t do anything because they were scared too. So I can’t blame the drivers, but it sounds to me as if this liberal haven needs better and speedier security.
Public transportation IS getting more dangerous. The lame stream media is steadfastly refusing to make that little tidbit of information public knowledge. Can’t have the taxpayers’ knowing, they might vote to discontinue funding for the black hole of public transportation. Can’t have people responsible for their own transportation needs, it’s too much like right.
An armed society is a polite society.
More violence prone families. Truly pathetic.
I bet it shows up on LiveLeak. They run stuff that YouTube will delete.
Here, found it.

Oh, and thanks for nothing Google/YouTube.
An “airhead”? Seriously? A 14 yo girl describing the upcoming attack by some savages on a train. She actually seems pretty level headed and well spoken compared to many adults I know.
