Gary Bauer endorsed Santorum earlier this week.

I guess we'll see if this works.

I'm still behind Rick Perry as he truly is the consistent conservative.

This group of religious leaders said “no thanks” to Perry and Rombama. Looks like Newt got the remaining 29 votes (out of 114).

I’m afraid none of the alternatives have a prayer. The establishment always gets its man. And even with Reagan, it had Sandra Day O’Connor voting against the Reagan agenda.

The real moment of truth is going to come when those same people have to explain why they’re supporting Mitt Romney to their constituency.

At the moment they’re scared to death of that eventuality.

One reason being that lots of them have the money of Romney and his associates in their bank accounts.

I suspect most of the Gingrich votes at the conference really prefer Santorum, but they believe SC polls showing Newt competitive. Thus far, unity by the Romney opponents still wouldn’t work because all three are too weak. Santorum’s advantage is that he is steady and consistent and has a good personal story.

Its about time someone stood up and made a decision. There are problems with all 3 (Santorum, Newt, and Perry) but we have to get behind one guy to have any chance of stopping Romney.

Rush and Palin need to step up. If both come out for Santorum, and Newt drops out and endorses Rick...we may still have a shot at stopping Romney.

I am of the same mindset of this group in what I want in a candidate, but this was a STUPID move.

At this point in the game I do not see Santorum over taking Romney, but Gingrich on the other hand... They could have gotten the type of candidate they wanted AND someone who could beat Romney.

In the world of politics it really does NO good to hitch your wagon to a candidate the will not win. And for the record, I love Santorum, but see the writing on the wall.

I wonder why it is that social conservatives do not care about the debt that is crushing this nation. Why do social conservatives always back big spending, big government candidates? Don’t they realize that making everyone dependent on government is a very very bad thing? Do social conservatives want us to become Greece? Why should a fiscal/constitutional conservative listen to these guys if they ALWAYS throw their support to BIG SPENDING SOCIALISTS.

I can’t remember the evangelical leader or his exact quote a few weeks ago - but it was basically: Evangelicals aren’t too bright when it comes to politics. This just furthers that point.

Yes. We don’t want Romney they say. So, let’s all get behind somebody (Santorum) that doesn’t have a prayer of beating Romney. In the process we’ll keep the Not Romney’s fractured and make sure Romney wins it. Brilliant!

An incompetent double-digit loser who pledges allegiance to a foreign monarch in place of our Constitution.

Ron Paul seems to be the only one left who is serious to the founder's principles. Rick Fecal Matter and Lube should take his unAmerican beliefs to K of C meetings, not the White House.

After being a strong supporter of Sarah Palin, I overcame my disappointment with her decision not to run for the Republican presidential nomination and got on the 'Cain Train', only to see Cain run off by scandals that I still believe were bogus. I then looked at Rick Perry, Michele Bachmann, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich. Perry was gaff-prone and seemed to be unprepared to run for president, as if it were a last-minute decision with no real substance to his candidacy beyond the fact that Obama has to go, which we already knew. Bachmann was a politically attractive conservative but lost momentum after the Iowa Straw Poll win and never seemed to regain it. Newt is smart and feisty but too much of a Washington insider, too mercurial and lately, too 'angry' for my taste. That left Rick Santorum. Yes, he voted 'wrong' on some issues while a U.S. senator. Realistically, you could say that about any Republican senator. No politician is going to be ideologically 'pure' 100% of the time. To expect that kind of conservative ideological perfection is naive.

Santorum is a social conservative and I admire that although I find him a bit bland but serious and not given to Newt's ego tantrums or Perry and Bachmann's gaffs. He may not be able to defeat Romney but I'm willing to support him in the fight because I do believe that Santorum can defeat Obama. In fact, my neighbors dog could probably defeat Obama at this point. He is a defeat waiting to happen and we don't need to 'lean to the left' to accomplish Obama's defeat. That is the Democrats meme - and it is fallacious. Santorum can beat Romney but only when we stop splitting the vote 4 or 5 ways every primary and actually get behind one candidate even if that candidate isn't the political man of our dreams, as it were. I could still support Gingrich or Perry should they emerge as the ultimate GOP presidential nominee. However, I can't support Romney, Ron Paul or Jon Huntsman. Fortunately, aside from Romney, the other two have little chance to win the GOP nomination. Should Romney end up the Republican presidential nominee, I'll have a tough decision to make, I know. However, Romney can be stopped in South Carolina. If not there, then he is likely going to win the nomination. I don't believe many FReepers want that to happen. This one certainly does not.

“Rick Santorum has consistently articulated the issues that are of concern to conservatives, both the economic and the social, and has woven those into a very solid platform,” Perkins said.

Economic and social issues are both important and each are linked to the other. There are moral consequences for economic policy just as there are economic consequenses when taking a moral stand against the anti-social policies pushed by the DUmocrats.

FROM article:

“As for Newt Gingrich, don’t count him out. This wasn’t a clean sweep by Santorum and Gingrich clearly had evangelical support in the room. Remember that Gingrich has important endorsements from Don Wildmon of the American Family Association, Beverly LaHaye who founded Concerned Women for America, Tim LaHaye, the founder of the Council for National Policy (CNP),George Barna, one of the leading faith researchers in the country and of course JC Watts, a minister of the Gospel and a former Congressman too.”

In an effort to avoid a repeat of 2008, when social conservatives failed to rally behind a single Republican presidential candidate, a group of more than 100 religious leaders who gathered in Texas this week...

decided to stumble and fumble and fall flat on their faces instead.
