Mitt Romney still holds first place in the South Carolina Primary field, while his opponents jockey for second with the voting eight days away.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Republican Primary Voters in South Carolina finds Romney ahead with 28% support, but now former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is in second place with 21% of the vote. Support for former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum who was in second a week ago has fallen back to 16%, putting him dead even with Texas Congressman Ron Paul who also earns 16%.
This South Carolina survey of 750 Likely Republican Primary Voters was conducted on January 12, 2012 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 4 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC.

And he was a Male Cheerleader at Texas A&M!
Given that Perry's been polling in the single digits for five months now, came in 5th in the Iowa caucus, finished at the bottom in New Hampshire, and is still only polling around 5%, you may just be speaking for most die-hard Perry supporters.
I've still got to believe, though, that most would let go of their unrealistic expectations, and support the best conservative remaining who can bump off Romney.
Gingrich was caught by surprise by the Mittboaters. Was not expecting “friendly fire.” I don’t think Newt expects a warm welcome from Obama, any more than he got one from Bill Clinton.
That post makes no sense David
Can u explain please
I want Santorum and Gingrich to focus ALL of their negative ads on Romney.
All you Santorum people need to line up behind Newt. Mittens must be destroyed. If Willard pulls off a win here it’s all over. Then we get 0bama and his roving hordes of thugs for another 4 year.
Newt ain’t perfect. Far from it. Be Romney is a millions times worse. Newt is our only hope a stopping Romney and beating Obama. The only way to beat 0bama is to play his dirty game. Newt is willing to get down in the gutter with 0bama and destroy him.
Let’s go people. Stop Romney NOW! Then stop 0bama next!
“Thatd be great. If Newt won in 2012, Santorum would be a great candidate for 2020.”
Get serious! By 2020 I hope to rid of all the old guard dinosaurs! By 2020 the new gaurd of Conservatives should be taking over. People like Scott Walker, Marco Rubio, Mike Lee, Bobby Jindal, etc. Those guys are the future of Conservatism. Romney, Newt, Santorum, etc should be long into retirement by then.
“Gingrich is a loose cannon and is a total mixed bag, but he isnt running in Missouri. I got nobody left in this race if Perry drops, so Ill sit out the primary.”
Go to the caucus and vote for whichever conservative is left standing. The primary doesn’t count anyway.
which post do you refer to?
The Caucus will be full of Ron Paul guys, and nobody will caucus for Gingrich because he didn’t bother with the primary. May not be ANY conservatives left, probably be down to Romney and Paul. Argh.
Which would you choose? I might have to flip a coin. I am sooo sick of voting for the lesser of 2 evils. Haven’t had a vote I felt good about since Ronald Reagan.

Dunno. I’ll probably be too drunk to remember at that point.
Oh well, maybe Jim Demint next time.
In post 77 you say I must support Obama
Explain please
I support Newt
Glad you support Newt. I must have confused yo with someone else. I apologize.
Don’t forget that (+/-) 4% means that Mitt might be behind Newt by 1% already, and that Santorum might be 20% and climbing. This race is still on through Tuesday!
that and a dollar will get you a cup of coffee
