If you are looking for a conservative alternative to Romney and had to choose today between Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry or Rick Santorum, which one would you choose?
Final results of the Free Republic 1/9/2012 non-Romney Conservative Straw Poll (see post 548)
Newt | 225 | 59.7% |
Perry | 77 | 20.4% |
Santorum | 75 | 19.9% |
Newt. I agree. I’ve had to really consider this over the last few days, but what turned the corner for me was Newt’s response to the Iran question on Saturday evening.
It was so far and away above anything said by the other candidates. He incorporated the entire Middle East and our strategy for dealing with it.
Suddenly, it seemed, every other candidate, Romney included, was saying, “I agree with Newt.”
It was so evident then that they all knew it. Newt is the class in that field.
He just is.
It hit me then that I had to go forward with Newt.
I can easily accept Newt! What’s more, I’d work my rear end off for him.
Go Newt!
She’s not running.
Had you heard?
LOL
you post to the boss off my post.
The ass kicker in all this is Newt. He can shred any other candidate on our side and will make Obama take that short bus home.
Newt has to do some break out thing and stick it to the debate hosts/whores, whatevuh.
My ideas is he has alternative venue for debating and when the lame stream debate becomes obvious and retarded, for everyone who continues, he throws down and walks off, inviting everyone to better forum for showcasing their ideas and talent.
Of course, ain’t no one more talented than Newt nor anyone who has more ideas.
I frickin hate that he crawled up on that couch with Nancy, even if I like her personally but, he is beyond brilliant and this guy has some weird obsession with thinking things through.
Newt 2012
Looks like some of us voted like they do in Chicago.
another late vote for Santorum, but I can do Newt. Anyone but Romney.
One problem, Newt can't seem to get out of his way. He always says something controversial when he is out front. Don't get me wrong, I will be happy to vote for him against obama. However, in the primaries I still see a small govt social conservative in Perry and as long as he is in the race I don't want to settle for less.
You have 2 & there are no 2 votes. Please change thanks.
Thank you, Jim! This was interesting and informative!
It looks to me like its time to unite with one voice behind Newt in a concerted cohesive effort to block a Romney fiasco. The three way split against Mitt will only lead to failure and disaster for this country. United we stand, divided we fall. Thank you Jim for the extra effort to add clarity.
LOL!
Thanks for the poll Jim.
However if you guys are still supporting Gingrich after his Commie/Occupy class warfare comments about Capitalism yesterday I really think you guys need to do some soul searching.
Perry screwed the pooch as well.
After their comments yesterday either one of them would be a great leader of the Occupy movement.
They are a disgrace to America, capitalism and free markets.
BTW... Santorum was the only ONE with the correct response yesterday.
Don't bother posting to me again. You'll be ignored.
Hey Perry, Santorum ~ time to drop out...
NOW!!!

You do not know what you are talking about.
Bain did what it had to do, they have a fiduciary responsibility to their stake-holders and they had a better than 75% success rate.
Most VC firms plan on a 90% failure rate. The majority of companies that need VC money are in trouble, it is a huge risk and it isn’t always more capital that can save a company or an idea.
You want to talk about raiding then talk about the Carlyle group.
Oh yeah glad to see you support class-warfare and the occupy movement because that is exactly what you are saying and supporting.
2:34 sec new Newt for President ad. THIS is why I am for Newt.

Awesome!!!
A real UC (underwear changer) for Obama (and Newt’s rivals!)
While I may like some of the other candidates, well, they all strike me as the next Bob Dole if any got the nod. Footnotes, all. I don't see any of the rest igniting much of a general public give a damn.
