Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney beat former Sen. Rick Santorum by a margin of just 8 votes in the Iowa GOP caucuses, the chairman of the Iowa Republican Party announced early Wednesday.

If San’s your man - you can hope it goes that way. I just don’t see it. 7 days is not enough time for the $$ to come in, be vetted, spend planned, spend executed, and let alone spend optimized. So I don’t think there’s any way Mitt looses NH. The first real chance at a loss is South Carolina and he may have two wins under his belt by then. We shall see - but I don’t see it. Santorum is one of my least favorite candidates (just can’t abide a guy who went out on a loss). As I’ve said on other threads, once Cain was out - the magic was gone for me and it’s simply numbers now.

Looks like Newt and Santorum might be hooking up to go after Mitt. Their cause would be abetted if Bachmann and Perry would exit and endorse. But it looks as though the winnowing isn’t going to happen yet. The fact of the matter is that Mitt is looking more and more like the perennial candidate that no one wants. His vote totals in Iowa were right at where he was four years ago. 75% of the Republicans want someone other than Romney, but that does not include the Party “leadership” and that’s the problem. NE Liberal Republicans appear to be running the GOP. This is it for me, if Romney is the candidate, I am going to re-register as an Indy.
There IS a drop of difference (politically) between the two.

There won’t be. There’s no conceivable way that a recount could change the delegate total, so all it would do is make Santorum look petty. In this case, first place is purely an issue of perception. (A nice issue to have on your side, though.)

Well. I’m not a Mitt guy. He is liberal yankee from massachuttes and nothing worse can be said.
My statement was made after discussions with several conservative friends who express fear that a right winger will lose. In Tennessee there are more of them than those toward the extreme and they will not vote for a true conservative.
The result are moderate to conservative governors and senators. A strong conservative lost to a mainline Republican in the primary.

This nomination will be decided in South Carolina. Rick Perry will be there to drain votes along with Santorum with the plan being that Newt can be prevented from beating Romney.
Santorum will end up getting his television show just like the Iowa winner four years ago (Huckabee) and Romney will get the nomination as planned.
