After a disappointing fifth-place finish in Tuesday's Iowa caucuses, Texas Governor Rick Perry said he is going home to Texas to assess "whether there is a path forward for myself in this race."
"With the voters' decision tonight in Iowa, I've decided to return to Texas, assess the results of tonight's caucus, determine whether there is a path forward for myself in this race," Perry told supporters at the end of the night.
The candidate, once considered a frontrunner in the race for the GOP nomination, earned just 10 percent on Tuesday's contest with more

They're all too busy crying their eyes out over their Tiger Beat photos of him.
Cheers!
Perry, had better worry about the next guv election. My money is Dewhurst will be ousting him.
(Let me put it in context):
Reporter: Gov. Perry, can you name the top three reasons you showed so poorly in Iowa, despite high expectations?
Gov. Perry:Oops
I’ve supported and voted for Perry every election to this point. The man took a 30% August poll number and collapsed once the world got to see the substance of the man. I for one feel duped, and will be pushing Dewhurst in 2014.
Good post. I am of the same opinion.

I plan to add your comment to that thread.
Perry was a poor candidate who would have made a fine president.
Too often America has been cursed with the reverse.
It is what it is.
I *Like* Rick, however, I’ve always thought of him as something of a doofus - as they all are before they’re immaculated. It looked like there was a crease in the defense he could exploit, I imagine that’s how it looked to him too. Not great timing with the fusion surgery, but what the hell.
Santorum sent me a mailer last week saying he was going to win Iowa and that that was going to open the floodgates of support for him. Maybe that’s happening.
I could still live with any of them. And to the poster who said Romney can’t beat O, I say not so. He would pick off a LOT of libs who don’t want to vote for O but can’t bring themselves to vote for Santo. It’s more what he would do AFTER election that I worry about, but again, I could live with it.
If Perry does drop out that helps Romney, I’m afraid.
You fought the good fight. Hang in there and good luck. OTOH, I backed Palin and Cain...look where it got me... : /
Well the reason is because you guys were nasty during the time leading up to Iowa.
And Perry is a good conservative.
Cain has always said he liked Romney (although he's never dissed Santorum like he did Perry.)
Palin has all but officially come out for Santorum.
If Perry drops out I'm confident he'll get behind Santorum.
I think Gingrich is staying in the race just to help Santorum. Expect a lot of Romney bashing from him along with subtle praising of Santorum.
Way to get the Perry people behind your guy. Schmuck.
I don’t care if you get behind him. President Santorum will have plenty of support. You are just disgruntled. Sorry he lost but I knew if from the first debate. Bachmann is dropping out today and Perry should follow. You guys were the nastiest while he was running and as usual you will continue now that he is out. No surprise. Perhaps you are just a miserable person all around.
Then U R N idiot.
Santorum is going to have a house of crap fall on him in the next three weeks. I hope he can stand it and I actually think he might.
But I hope Perry stays in at least through Florida so there is a conservative option if Romney and his minions manage to take Santorum out.
Are you gloating? If so, not an attractive thing to do.
I resisted the urge to gloat when Cain was found to have something of an unsavory past and was forced to drop out.
It was hard because it was Cain supporters mostly who formed little posses to come on Perry threads and make really stupid, hateful comments.
CW will go on with her life if Perry doesn’t make it as will all his supporters, but the country will be poorer for it.
As for the latest flash in the pan in this volatile and changeable race, Rick Santorum, I predict that he will be the Mike Huckabee of 2012.
Most conservatives find a core of Ron Paul’s ideas that really appeals to us, but when you look at the whole picture, he would be a disaster.
Cain should drop out... oh, wait.
A pundit on Fox, whom I like but can’t remember his name, said Perry should stay in through South Carolina.
I hope he does.
I think Santorum is a mildly decent guy but not a good candidate.
