Live thread to cover today's GOP caucus. News, predictions, opinions, totals, and the like.
Will be heading out about 4 pm or so to get our site ready and do a final review with the precinct chairs. I expect it to be bigger than 2008 with very heavy turnout and we are preparing for that.
We are also ready for disruptions. They simply won't be tolerated. The state party sent us a memo saying if there's any trouble call the cops immediately. Anyone trying to cause problems is going to get a rude awakening.
My predictions of the outcome are a narrow field with about a 10 point spread for the top five with Bachmann far behind in single digits:
Santorum - 24 Romney - 22 Paul - 20 Perry - 17 Gingrich - 14 Bachmann - 4 The Rest - 1
Think things are still in flux and many won't decide till right to the wire, so I'm not terribly confident of any predictions.
The marriages or divorces don't affect me that much, but the serial adulterous affairs when his wives were ill, that's scum territory.
wonderful!
I hope Freddie Newt goes negative on Romulus.
Santorum will benefit.
yw; that’s good news for Newt. He came in fourth, but it’ll not cost him that many delegates in comparison to Santorum and Romney. :)
My prayers and hopes belong to Newt Gingrich!
Iowa is OVER! So much for OPEN primaries.
NH is the same: OPEN primary.
I'm praying the Christian beats the cult member!
AP: Bachmann campaign manager says she may drop out
The Mitt camp (and MSM/Fox/Rep. Establishment/dems) cannot be happy right now. Even if he managed to pull out a squeaker, he’s got to know that conservative Republicans just don’t like him and as candidates like Bachmann, Huntsman and Perry drop out, he’ll do worse. It’s going to be even harder to win in SC and FL. If there are upcoming debates, I hope Newt kicks butt. Newt will win SC and FL. Go Newt!
I’ve come to believe that Perry supporters (particularly here) are far more tenacious than their candidate.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Perry drops out sooner than expected. I don’t say that as a knock against you, but looking at where he’s been (poll wise) and where he is now, I don’t see where is role would be anything else but a spoiler to another Conservative possibly winning the nomination. As always, my crystal ball could be wrong, but I believe tonight is the result of Perry’s self inflicted wounds. Sometimes, the trend is not your friend.
Newt is done. Listening to him now. He looks and sounds defeated.
Also, Callistas eyes are very sad.
They have seen the writing on the wall and it says:
SANTORUM
***
BS. I didn’t see sadness — but I did see annoyance on Newt’s part. Only time will tell how ready Santorum is for the “attacks.” But something tells me Newt is only getting started ... loved his acceptance speech. He is spot on, as always ...and touched on Paul wonderfully.
It is seriously wrong and horrid that these candidates spend millions with 30 second sound bites. It’s politics for the LAZY. It’s why our country is in such a MESS.
I’m hanging in with Newt. Might even join his volunteer effort.
Ouch. Sorry for dissing your state. Just annoyed about the love fest for 3 very unattractive candidates and I mean Romney, Paul and Santorum.
Has all that corn fermented and did you drink it on the way to the caucuses?
Just kidding.
Actually, I’m a Texan and a lot of people here don’t like Texas. Seems like they think we brag or something like that, which is totally ridiculous.
Story County now with 56% of its vote in. Looking better now.
Dingbat Bachmann on stage now grinning, acting like she won. She just said there might be “another Michele in the White House” next year.
Can you say delusional.
Sniff.....almost as good as the smell of cordite, tear gas, and the sound of liberals screaming in agonizing pain! THANK YOU!
She also said for the people against him on the right to quit attacking him.
You are correct on this point.

One point Mark Sanford made is that Iowa has very low (5%) unemployment, vs SC at more than 10%. In that since, SC will be a much better barometer for issue-voters, in addition to being a true primary not a “glorified straw poll”.
Is Newt even going to try and compete in NH? I thought he was headed direct to SC?
I hope that is Newt’s intention.
Agree 100%.
Try not to embarrass yourself.
