Live thread to cover today's GOP caucus. News, predictions, opinions, totals, and the like.
Will be heading out about 4 pm or so to get our site ready and do a final review with the precinct chairs. I expect it to be bigger than 2008 with very heavy turnout and we are preparing for that.
We are also ready for disruptions. They simply won't be tolerated. The state party sent us a memo saying if there's any trouble call the cops immediately. Anyone trying to cause problems is going to get a rude awakening.
My predictions of the outcome are a narrow field with about a 10 point spread for the top five with Bachmann far behind in single digits:
Santorum - 24 Romney - 22 Paul - 20 Perry - 17 Gingrich - 14 Bachmann - 4 The Rest - 1
Think things are still in flux and many won't decide till right to the wire, so I'm not terribly confident of any predictions.
You need to get it through your thick head that the only way conservatives win is to have a candidate that is a social, fiscal and security conservative.
I think Rick Perry is by far the best candidate in the race, but if he can’t get the nomination than I’m for Gingrich.
Although very disappointed in Gingrich’s failure to defend himself better against the attacks.
Wasn’t that supposed to be his long suit...being able to out debate everyone?
Sorry, but now that Santorum has a very tenuous hold on first place status the attacks will start on him.
They will be vicious and they will be true. He won’t be in for the long haul.
Romneys to lose, unfortunately, and I think tonights results are a win.
*************
There are no real wins in Iowa-— it’s an aberration.
Well, he didn’t implement Romneycare.
He doesn’t support in state tuition for illegals and call people that oppose it heartless.
Has Santorum ever had to deal with illegals? What is his position on the border?
Santorum is a good man but he does not have the experience with jobs and energy as does Perry.
Newt talking now.
Starts out by graciously praising Santorum.
Now taking Ron Paul’s views on foreign policy (iran and nukes) to the woodshed.
GO GINGRICH!
are you sure you were directing that in the right direction?

I love this site. I’m going to make a donation to FR after the Iowa results are in.
Start here, Antinius, thepostemail.com, then do a little research on what you learn.
The game’s changed. :)
This is what happens when you have real electoral data. The game swings the most early on, which is why Iowa is so important.
Santorum is picking up Evangelical/Catholic heartland voters in Iowa, in sufficient numbers to win the state. This is Perry’s core voters.
Perry still has a shot, but he’s got to beat Newt. That he’s pushing to go to SC, means the last stand for Perry will be in SC.
I don’t know about hominy Romeny’s eligibility, but no arguement here.
Santorum 11:23 EST.
“It is only a losing issue to the Country Club wives.”
And 99% of today’s mainstream media.
(50% actually Pro-Abortion, the other 49% fearing for their jobs if they dare say otherwise)
Perry ran on family values, Newt has none. Supporters of family values will not go to Newt, and that includes the social conservatives in SC.
Newt’s making a great speech, basically calling Paul a dangerous, deranged nut.
I’ll pat you on the head too!! WELL DONE!!! You spoke well !!!!!
“The real decision for conservatives, like it has been for me is between the candidates other than RINO Romney and nutcase Paul so as the lower vote total conservatives drop out, most supporters should consolidate to Santorum and Gingrich. The totals for the RINO and the nutcase will not change much.”
Exactly. And watch Michele and Perry (conservative team players they hopefully are) drop out TOMORROW.
Thank the good Lord that I will not have to hear the word Iowa for another 8 years.
I may give up corn.
Wish I could give up ethanol.
he problem for Gingrich was that the attacks didn’t come via debate. Romney doesn’t have the guts to confront him face to face. Apparently Gingrich didn’t at the time have the money (or the inclination) to respond. Maybe not a battle worth fighting over Iowa. Time will tell.
