Gingrich: 'I feel Romney-boated'
Ap-(Pravda) ^ | 1-1-12 | S.McCafterty

Struggling to reverse a slide in his standing, Republican presidential contender Newt Gingrich said Sunday he'd been "Romney-boated" in Iowa and suggested his GOP rival would buy the presidency if he could.

The sharp words against Mitt Romney, a multimillionaire many times over who is in strong contention to win Iowa, come two days before voters here weigh in on the Republican field. It was part of a stepped-up effort by Gingrich to contrast himself with Romney, and the candidate said he would adopt an even more aggressive strategy when the race moves to New Hampshire, the former Massachusetts governor's backyard.

Gingrich's nautical attack was a reference to a 2004 TV ad campaign by a group called the "Swiftboat Veterans for Truth" that bloodied Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry. This year, Gingrich has faced an onslaught of negative TV advertisements by a group aligned with Romney.

Asked Sunday whether he felt that he had been "swiftboated," Gingrich replied, "I feel Romney-boated."

It was his second swipe of the day at the Republican frontrunner.

Speaking to reporters after attending morning Mass at the St. Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines, Gingrich said the amount Romney will eventually spend on his various campaigns will rival the spending of billionaire New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

"Romney would buy the election if he could," Gingrich said.

Happy New Year, all- Like him or not, Newt's a hoot. New Year's Resolution for the conservative pres. candidates. If 7 days out from a state primary, a candidate is down by more than 5 pts based on Real Clear Pol. consensus- -- that candidate withdraws from that state's race.

Based on “margin of errors” and polls being manipulated, not a good idea.

I wonder if Gingrich realizes that the Swiftboat Veterans' ads against Kerry were also true.

The Iowa Caucus is a joke. Just ask anyone who won while being opposed.

Newtis right on all counts.

It’s a fact that Romney is trying to buy the presidency.

Just wait until he runs into obama’s $1 Billion of attack ads, -— that is, provided he’s the nominee.

Look guys, we know what the Republican Rove-ian Establishment is doing since 2008— They're setting up prop “establishment” conservatives to sabotage “real” conservatives.

We have to start demanding proof that a conservative candidate is not just carrying establishment water— e.g.-the following proclamation:

- “In that I can't win this state, and in that I don't want to dilute the conservative vote to allow a GOP establishment candidate to gain the delegates— I'm outta here- and will fight in the next state. “

Anyone who doesn't so pledge is a conservative quisling.

Interesting that he holds the same perspective on “swiftboating” as the dhimmicrats. To conservatives swiftboating means to draw back the curtains and reveal the truth about something or someone.

It's similar to when Reagon said he paid for this mike and he was going to get his say. Same with Newt.

He was simply making a pun when the reporter asked him if he got swiftboated. For some reason people can’t stop reading massive implications into every little unscripted remark Newt makes.

So Newt is comparing Romney’s attacks to a conservative group whose allegations were LARGELY TRUE! Newt is basically saying the Swift-Boaters were liars which is still another example of his tone-deafness when it comes to conservative thought.

Really, why are so many of you falling for this man???

Gingrich, who has pledged to run a positive campaign, sought to make up ground by attacking Romney — and promised more to come.

Even as he attacked Romney, Gingrich insisted he would not go negative — which he defined as distortions and lies — but would work to correct misleading charges against himself and draw a clearer contrast with Romney. He said a counter-offensive would probably include television ads.

“New Hampshire is the perfect state to have a debate over Romneycare and to have a debate about tax-paid abortions, which he signed, and to have a debate about putting Planned Parenthood on a government board, which he signed. And to have a debate about appointing liberal judges, which he did,” Gingrich told reporters at a stop in Marshalltown.

“And so I think New Hampshire is a good place to start the debate for South Carolina.”
- Washington Post
About time. Too late for Iowa. If he kept with this current strategy it would have not served him well...

Might wanna read the article for context, instead of being a reactionary lemming based on an MSM headline.

Orange asked: “Really, why are so many of you falling for this man???
********************

Why? Respectfully, I’ll give you my reason. Newt is the consummate Washington insider- yet, I see the insider/establishment all against him. The GOP is spending millions to stop him. That’s just fact! I think the Establishment is against him because Newt would lead the Establishment, and unlike all others, would not be controlled by it.

Quite clearly then, he’s the Establishment’s enemy— and the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

That’s why I’m for him.
