I met some illegal Mexicans last night at a party. Several years ago I stayed with a couple of wonderful Mexican families in the Baja below California. These were well-off people. The homes, on average were beautifully tiled and some of them had mahogany inlaid walls, bookshelves and cabinetry that would cost a hundred-thousand dollars here. So, Im guessing if they arent rich theyre very comfortable. The elderly not as well-off grandfather, while living in Mexico was receiving Social Security from the United States and owned a rent-free apartment in California which he used as his address to receive several forms of assistance checks from Californian agencies. He visited the apartment once a week to re-arrange things and make it looked lived in. He had a car, a Toyota Corolla that looked quite nice and had working air-conditioning. I gathered it was supplied as some form of assistance and he generally left it in California at the apartment. The apartment was about 1100 square feet and very livable. The grandfather told me most of entire complex, easily a 1000 units, were like him, on Californian assistance, but actually living in Mexico.
At the party were a couple of teenage boys from this family. Very nice kids. Id be proud to have them as my own; diligent, hard working, trouble-free and much more adult than youd expect from that age. They told me that theyd decided to go to high school in California instead of Mexico. They said that the (California) government gave them an apartment and they travel back to Mexico on the weekends. (I dont know if theyre staying alone or if a family member is staying with them, but if I had to guess, they came alone.)
When I posted information on this family last time, Freepers angrily asked why I hadnt reported them. Firstly, I was a well-treated guest. Secondly, this must be obvious to the casual observer. Even if I knew who to report it to in California, which I dont, it is obvious that this is how its done. These people are only taking advantage of benefits put there for them. Not to avail themselves of these benefits would be like deciding not to take candy freely offered to you.
That’s how I felt about math until I became an adult. I’m sorry, but some of us mature in our 30’s, 40’s and 50’s. We *do* get there, eventually.
It was foggy, misty and rainy as we crossed the river this AM. Almost like being in one of those creepy movies. Being from the desert, I like moisture and the lush greenery here.
Have to go and do work, but hope to check in again before I fall asleep. Thinking about y’all; prayers up (as usual).
I’ll take the desert over the “lush greenery” any day!
If I want to be in a sauna, I can pay for it. The thing there is that I can always open the door and be back in the desert! LOL!
When I was a brand new bride in San Diego, we had some neighbors downstairs. They were separated for a while, but got together every two weeks or so when their schedules permitted it.
He called her once on a duty night and asked her if she was pregnamt. When she said yes, he said, “I figured. I’ve had morning sickness for the last week!”
Maybe Tom will feel better once the baby is here.
“Dunderhead Dan” refers to the serial troll Danny H.
This little twit got ZOT’ted a long time ago, but keeps making new screen names and spamming PM’s of the FReepers who outed him.
The Mod’s find him out quickly and scragg his accounts as fast as he makes them. He’s a site pest, and little else.
We lived in Tennessee when my husband was in grad school, 1995-96. It could get spooky, all those dead soldiers everywhere. Fortunately, we’re students of history ...
Fortunately, I have reasonably pleasant pregnancies, but when Tom goes on a hormonal rampage, it’s like being trapped with a bull elephant! He’s much larger than you remember. (Shoot, he’s larger than people who saw him last week remember!)
Sally turned up - she’d been down the street playing a neighbor’s little kids.
It would seem that all your kids have grown like weeds. I mean Frankenbaby was just barely figuring out that he had legs! Tom and Bill both were about eye-to-eye with me, and I’m almost afraid to see what the girls have done! LOL!
Probably both are lovely young ladies.
(tagline)
The girls can pass for young ladies, when I make them. Bill is tall, Tom is taller.
I figured Tom would be the taller of the two. It’s probably a permanent thing, so Bill better get used to looking up at his little brother! LOL!
Tom’s feet are much bigger than Bill’s. Bill probably won’t reach 6 feet tall, but Tom is already over and has years of growing time left. Pat and James will probably be the same, and then Vlad and Frank.
I like Maxwell. He had the good sense to employ demons when convenient.
And her footprints make you follow where the sky loves the sea.
And when your fingers find her, she drowns you in her body,
Carving deep blue ripples in the tissues of your mind.
The dead soldiers and I are united. No matter what happens, the dead soldiers are at my back in a firefight.
Thank you for cluing (clueing?) me in.
*sigh*
You’re so romantical!
What’s a little spookiness among neighbors, anyway ...
Just drive carefully in the fog - don’t want to hit a large ruminant.
We old people have to go to sleep. You young’uns have fun!
G’night!
P.S. Praying for y’all!
Dunderhead Dan is a multiretread who is multiple things.
He has stated that he is pro-gun bans, pro-homosexual marriage, and pro-illegal immigration, yet he insists that he is a conservaive because an online test he supposedly took says so.
He adds profane keywords to threads and then spams people who posted in those threads.
You end up with multiple freepmails fro this guy.
And, when caught, he pretends to be somebody other than who he is.
And he gets really P.O’d when you tell him that you know who he is.
Any sensible roommate wouldn't be wandering around in the fog.
The discussion reminds of my "Gas Blues", though.
"The fog on the mountain ...", ah yes, I remember the fog quite well:
