"The illegals I met last night."
Self | 1/1/2012 | Bern Pearson

Posted on 01/01/2012 8:10:22 AM PST by Gen.Blather

I met some illegal Mexicans last night at a party. Several years ago I stayed with a couple of wonderful Mexican families in the Baja below California. These were well-off people. The homes, on average were beautifully tiled and some of them had mahogany inlaid walls, bookshelves and cabinetry that would cost a hundred-thousand dollars here. So, I’m guessing if they aren’t rich they’re very comfortable. The elderly not as well-off grandfather, while living in Mexico was receiving Social Security from the United States and owned a rent-free apartment in California which he used as his address to receive several forms of assistance checks from Californian agencies. He visited the apartment once a week to re-arrange things and make it looked lived in. He had a car, a Toyota Corolla that looked quite nice and had working air-conditioning. I gathered it was supplied as some form of assistance and he generally left it in California at the apartment. The apartment was about 1100 square feet and very livable. The grandfather told me most of entire complex, easily a 1000 units, were like him, on Californian assistance, but actually living in Mexico.

At the party were a couple of teenage boys from this family. Very nice kids. I’d be proud to have them as my own; diligent, hard working, trouble-free and much more adult than you’d expect from that age. They told me that they’d decided to go to high school in California instead of Mexico. They said that the (California) government gave them an apartment and they travel back to Mexico on the weekends. (I don’t know if they’re staying alone or if a family member is staying with them, but if I had to guess, they came alone.)

When I posted information on this family last time, Freepers angrily asked why I hadn’t reported them. Firstly, I was a well-treated guest. Secondly, this must be obvious to the casual observer. Even if I knew who to report it to in California, which I don’t, it is obvious that this is how it’s done. These people are only taking advantage of “benefits” put there for them. Not to avail themselves of these benefits would be like deciding not to take candy freely offered to you.

Been feeling fine. Hasn’t snowed in days. It has been cold though. Have been dealing with issues here. One of them the town has had no water since just before the new year. Melting snow up until today. Hubby broken ribs 3 1/2 weeks ago, so that has been on the front burner as well.

Hows stig? Fredd has been a champ. Yet people are out of town now and all I have to worry about is him getting eaten by wolves. Some were around here New Years eve. I will be watching the football today.... Glad to see you are back didn’t you only have a ipod or phone to do FReeper post there for a bit?

"Why thank you....LOL!"

I learned, very early on, not to neglect a "Howdy!" duty.

Hmmm. I seem to have said that incorrectly. Let’s try “my wife’s sister-in-law.” In other words the woman who married my wife’s brother, has a father who’s a bum.

OK. In California, who knew?

Just reporting that I’m not giving birth right now, only going to bed with a cat. I shall return ...

Meanwhile, I know two families with adult sons who are completely disabled, and will probably never be able to work. They’ve been working for years to get some assistance for them, but it’s a nightmare for them.

I guess it’s because their ancestors came to this country a couple hundred years ago. And their skin is the wrong color.

I once "interviewed" a man who had been awarded disability judgements twice, was collecting unemployment and working under a different name.

I guess the rest of us are just plain stupid.

I’m one eighth on my father’s side. Can’t find anything about it. Gave up.

I'm one-half me on my mother's side and one-half me on my father's side. The rest I'm not sure about.

I always wonder what’s going on when I see someone take fifteen minutes at the ATM.

Trust me...you aren’t stupid. What goes around comes around, and those who delight in taking advantage of other people will one day be surprised at where they end up.

Ohyah...And welcome to the current edition of the Undead Thread! ;o]

Wow. You have voiced my sentiments exactly. I KNEW if my skin wasn’t so pale, “help” would have been given to me in a heartbeat.

There should be an advocate or ombudsman for the two families you mention. Perhaps if they contacted the Attorney General’s office in your/their state, they would know where to start.

I wonder ... if a citizen were to break into the apartment and take everything, would that be theft?

You're absolutely correct, of course.

Proverbs 11:21

Be sure of this: The wicked will not go unpunished, but those who are righteous will go free.

I considered a < /sarc> tag, but decided against it.

They’ve hired attorneys to help with the process, but they’re still neck deep in waiting lists.

I can only tell you that I have “been there and done that,” and folks can lie to whomever they wish, for as long as they wish, but there WILL be a Day Of Reckoning.

<sarc tags are useless when dealing with idiots.

I will put them on my prayer list. I may not know who they are, but God does, and I trust Him to render the help that is needed to those who are in need.

And unfortunately, time is the only thing that will help them. Tell them to hang tough and not give up! “It’s always dark just before it goes totally black!” (My dear, sweet, belated Mom was the coiner of that phrase LONG before the Internet was a dream.)

Trust her! ;o]

On another side note. Fredd’s ears are like Gizmo of gremlin fame. I have photo of Fredd on about page here. He has that one ear up and the other not. I can tell his moods by his ears. He holds them back when not happy, moves them at different angles for other emotions. Didn’t notice that with Tasha. It is kinda funny. I fear to speak well of him, fear that something would happen. I am weird I guess. He has been such a buddy. With this cold weather he is a heating blanket at night!
