"The illegals I met last night."
Self | 1/1/2012 | Bern Pearson

Posted on 01/01/2012 8:10:22 AM PST by Gen.Blather

I met some illegal Mexicans last night at a party. Several years ago I stayed with a couple of wonderful Mexican families in the Baja below California. These were well-off people. The homes, on average were beautifully tiled and some of them had mahogany inlaid walls, bookshelves and cabinetry that would cost a hundred-thousand dollars here. So, I’m guessing if they aren’t rich they’re very comfortable. The elderly not as well-off grandfather, while living in Mexico was receiving Social Security from the United States and owned a rent-free apartment in California which he used as his address to receive several forms of assistance checks from Californian agencies. He visited the apartment once a week to re-arrange things and make it looked lived in. He had a car, a Toyota Corolla that looked quite nice and had working air-conditioning. I gathered it was supplied as some form of assistance and he generally left it in California at the apartment. The apartment was about 1100 square feet and very livable. The grandfather told me most of entire complex, easily a 1000 units, were like him, on Californian assistance, but actually living in Mexico.

At the party were a couple of teenage boys from this family. Very nice kids. I’d be proud to have them as my own; diligent, hard working, trouble-free and much more adult than you’d expect from that age. They told me that they’d decided to go to high school in California instead of Mexico. They said that the (California) government gave them an apartment and they travel back to Mexico on the weekends. (I don’t know if they’re staying alone or if a family member is staying with them, but if I had to guess, they came alone.)

When I posted information on this family last time, Freepers angrily asked why I hadn’t reported them. Firstly, I was a well-treated guest. Secondly, this must be obvious to the casual observer. Even if I knew who to report it to in California, which I don’t, it is obvious that this is how it’s done. These people are only taking advantage of “benefits” put there for them. Not to avail themselves of these benefits would be like deciding not to take candy freely offered to you.

At least it was only the same, single guest who was here last night. Extra people (or a different one) would have been an unpleasant surprise.

Actually, the people I found in my living room were no one I wouldn’t have invited myself, so it was OK.
Trying to turn over a new leaf today by starting chores early so that I can read, visit and phone the rest of the day.
How do you keep everyone’s activities organized? The sheer magnitude of dinner planning is intimidating!
See you later.

"I should have mentioned that the day starts early downstairs ..."

So morning comes in on little cat feet at your house?

Or is it like the tide instead of like the fog?

Morning comes into my house like a burglar. Not entirely a surprise, but not very welcome either.

Hey! I come from a large family of redheads...four of them girl-type redheads.

My hair is fighting with the stylist, now; once a month she cuts off the gray and I’m a redhead again. ;o]

TA-DAH!!!

(Didja miss me?)

The Stig and I spent the weekend where he has a HUGH window to himself, and I get a relief from the claustrophobia. :o])

I saw the doctor on Friday, and though I’ve gained four pounds, my BP is about 30 points lower than my last visit.

The wobblies still have me, and they are no fun. Yesterday, Busdaddy and I ran some errand’s, and by the time we got to the grocery store, I was having a tough time staying upright without props.

I couldn’t get online with the Nook. I guess no one in the neighborhood was home. I was looking at the new Cricket phone deals and have decided to get a Smartphone so I can “tether” to the Internet wherever I am. But that will be in a month, maybe.

Since this is the year my youngest grandson turns 16, it’s also the year I will go to AR for his birthday and Christmas. I have to make sure I have the money for the flights and the fun, so after my new phone, the money goes into savings.

So, TC. Did you take the Chica to church today?

How is everyone doing? Wherever you are....

We watched a segment on the Coast Guard on Kodiak, AK, and all I can say is...Anoreth...if you do only half wheat these guys do, you should never, ever doubt our pride in you! Thank you so much!

When do you count backwards?

According to the show "Lie to Me", the best way to discover if someone is telling the truth, is to get them to recount their story backwards. If they are lying, they will mess up, because they didn't practice the lie in reverse, only forward.

Often, The Stig and I go stay with a friend. The Stig gets an entire south-facing window to himself (a corner with part of a north-facing window here) and learns what it’s like to live the good life.

And ‘Face gets some down-time to focus on something/one else for a change. As the Late Igor would have said, “A change is as good as a rest!” (And should I mention “free laundry facilities?”)

Why should you not be “intrusive?” The rest of us are. Stay off the UT for a day or two and see what happens. LOL!

Whoa! That small, chirping rug on your shoulder reminds of of Anne McCaffery and some of her fire lizards...Can it be trained to fly?

Xagthrath and all his spawn wriggle through the air.
Now whether that is flying is not well established.
But it does do rather menacing poses towards passers by.
All for show apparently, much like a Congo Grey parrot trying to amuse the audience.

I don't know how you launch missiles from your backyard family bunkers, but at the Scoutmaster compound . . .
