RelatedCRESTON, Iowa Rick Perry began his final push in the Iowa Republican caucuses Tuesday by sharpening his claim to be the sort of leader the country badly needs, and which his rivals decidedly are not.
You need to ask yourself: If we replace the Democrat insider with a Republican insider, is that going to change Washington, D.C.? No, its not, he told 150 or so Iowans crammed into a coffee shop a week ahead of caucuses likely to winnow the presidential field. I will go to Washington to be an anti-establishment outsider.
At one stop after another, he jabbed at Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul with missives that mirror the pro-Perry ads flooding the states airwaves. Its a rather different emphasis from the one Perry used to launch his White House quest the promise to bring Texas job-creating magic to the national economy.

That is an absolutely brilliant point normy. I hope he does that very thing.
That is an EXCELLENT point that I never thought of! You know - Perry can counter almost everything that Obama touts - with way better results! Oh yeah, Obama is a better debater than Perry...BFD.
Yeah, he’s been bumping bellies with insiders and been a politician and career governor for what 11 years?
But now he’s not the insider, but an outsider...
Funny how the media treats the people as if their adults with 4 year old brains.
You are way too deep into the weeds.
His boyhood values were like going to church and Sunday School, being an Eagle Scout, hunting, fishing, guns, strong family, married his childhood sweetheart, still married to her, going to Aggieland, serving in the AF.
Just because he came from a Democrat county that had gotten federal money doesn’t change any of that.
His father was a tailgunner in WWII and flew 35 missions over Nazi Germany.
They worked the land but didn’t own it. They got sweaty and dirty and they got up before dawn and went to bed after dark.
They were poor.
But they loved America. And they believe in Capitalism. It was not their doing that FDR put all this federal stuff into the pipeline. What were they supposed to do about it?
Rick Perry became a Republican, but he always believed he was conservative.
He voted for Reagan twice, and for George HW Bush over Dukakis...this, after trying one last time to stay a Democrat and infamously backing algore that year.
The next year, he did what millions of his fellow Texans have done through the years, leave the Democrat party for good.
As for Haskell county, for 36 years it was represented in Washington DC by the king of the Bluedogs, Charlie Stenholm. He talked conservative but voted for every Dem Speaker candidate that came down the pike. no matter how liberal. In return, he was the long time chairman of the House Ag Committee, and is now an Ag industry lobbyist in DC.
He ran that scam a long time, but that district finally threw him out and put in a Republican.
We’re actually being told he’s now an “Outsider” yet he’s been a career politician for about 27 years?
Amazing.
He’s a WASHINGTON outsider. It’s a whole other world outside of there.
Not exactly MENSA quality reasoning there, d12.
Perry has never served a day in Washington DC.
He’s asking to go there to make it function more like Texas’ gpvernment does, where he has made his bones.
The Bushes and Rove and even Cheney tried to oust him from the governorship by running Kay Bailey Hutchinson. There is your DC insider, staring you right in the face.
And you don’t even see it.
Those people are now supporting Mitt Romney, and they would have supported CHristie, Huntsman, Daniels...anybody but Perry.
If they could have anybody they wanted, it would be Jeb Bush.
Oh, you mean like Bush was?
Rick Perry’s father wasn’t president.
Yeah, you’re right, having Daddy as POTUS makes one a D.C. insider, even though Bush was an outsider before being an insider, when in reality, he was an insider before being an insider. Yep.
Was Clinton was an outsider before becoming an insider?
IF you'd rather NOT be pinged FReepmail me.
IF you'd like to be added FReepmail me. Thanks.

“.....
2 terms in the TX House.
Ag Commissioner.
Lt. Governor.
3 term Governor.”
In other words, a professional politician.....Uh.... no thanks! Had my fill of those.
Iowa voters, write in Sarah Palin!!!
Yeah, hes been bumping bellies with insiders and been a politician and career governor for what 11 years?
But now hes not the insider, but an outsider...

Rick Perry being an outsider is like calling Barack Obama American-born
Perry was in cahoots with all the Washington pols and internationalists when he tried to push that NAFTA Superhighway nonsense on Texas and the US. Perry and his fellow statists were going to spend about $150 Billion of our tax dollars to have foreign companies build roads in Mexico to haul Communist Chinese goods.
Anyone support the NAFTA-North American Union nonsense is not an outsider
And, anyone supporting Illegal Alien Amnesty in any form is never an outsider, nor a conservative. Giving in-state tuition to Illegal Aliens in Texas, like Perry allowed, is the dream of all the supporters of Illegal Alien Amnesty
Not exactly MENSA quality reasoning there, d2.
The Perry’s were dry land cotton farmers...didn’t even own the land they farmed...tenant farmers. There was no pedigree there, no wealth, no big name that once was a Senator...namely Prescott Bush, then his son George HW Bush who held a variety of DC positions from congressman to an ambassadorship to CIA to president, and in between, the Republican National Committee...ran for Senate and lost to Lloyd Bentson or he would’ve served there, too.
GW came from a state gpvernership, but everything else about him screams establishment family...went to Andover Prep, Yale and Harvard Business.
Perry graduated from Paint Creek High School that was so tiny and rural it barely existed.
Became an Aggie.
He came from nothing.
His family, nor himself, had any Washington DC experience or connections.
GWB was certainly different from that.
Think it though, if you care to be bothered, or if you dare.
Yep..
This crap is just thrown out there to see if there is anyone stupid enough to buy it.
You have no idea what you're talking about.
Who do you support that has not been a professional politician...dying to know here?
I guess your eyes went bad on you when you tried to read the words, eight years as a cotton farmer and 5 years in the Air Force.
Too bad...but your eyes are acting a little strangely to be able to read certain words you want to attack and unable to read other pertinent words right next to ‘em, that you’d rather cover up.
Pity.
Welcome to FR.
Are you supporting Ron Paul?
