Shock Poll : Romney 45% Obama 39% [Drudge Headline]
Rasmussen Reports ^ | DECEMBER 27, 2011 | Rasmussen Reports

Posted on 12/29/2011 7:16:12 AM PST by RobinMasters

Mitt Romney has now jumped to his biggest lead ever over President Obama in a hypothetical Election 2012 matchup. It’s also the biggest lead a named Republican candidate has held over the incumbent in Rasmussen Reports surveying to date.

The latest national telephone survey finds that 45% of Likely U.S. Voters favor the former Massachusetts governor, while 39% prefer the president. Ten percent (10%) like some other candidate in the race, and six percent (6%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

A week ago, Romney trailed Obama 44% to 41%. The week before that, he held a slight 43% to 42% edge over the president. The two candidates have been essentially tied in regular surveys since January, but Romney remains the only GOP hopeful to lead Obama in more than one survey. Despite Romney’s current six-point lead, his latest level of support is in line with the 38% to 45% he has earned in matchups with the president this year. However, Obama’s 39% is a new low: Prior to this survey, his support has ranged from 40% to 46% in matchups with Romney.

A generic Republican candidate holds a narrow lead over the president again this week as has been the case all but three times in weekly tracking since late May. Obama leads all the other named GOP candidates by as little as seven and as much as 15 percentage points. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Texas Governor Rick Perry and businessman Herman Cain have all surged ahead of the president at one point but did not maintain those leads.

Gingrich's illegal alien posturing will alienate the Conservative base. As much as you hate Romney and prefer Gingrich, I can assure you that Gingrich is no more Conservative than Romney on a litany of issues. What you don't seem capable of understanding is that Gingrich won't defeat Obama, and I am willing to put a 50 dollar donation to FR in support of this belief.

Romney will be more popular with women voters than Gingrich, but this is again lost on you.

You can arrogantly deny this all you wish, but as another Freeper mentioned, it all goes back to Kennedy/Nixon.

“Mormons don’t serve in the military. Refuse to serve in the military. Let someone else do it.”

Utter ignorant nonsense.

” ObamaCare = RomneyCare = CommieCare “

Argue with that. Stop the obfuscating. Please, do get on with that “litany” of Romney advances of anything conservative.

Gingrich has the record over which you may read and weep. It was historic, and it appeared when it counted, allowing you today to swing your sword, one last time to stop socialism/Marxism. Your vote for Romney advances nothing but Romney, and failing to turn back what is now institutionalized Marxism is something you can choose to own.

Own it.

This is an Anti-Romney website. It's only going to get worse for Romney.

Unlike previous Republican nominees, Romney will never have the support of Free Republic.

I wouldn't have it any other way, I'm a conservative, not a republican although I've never voted for a democrat in my life. If this ever becomes a republican web site, I'll be outta here, republican web sites are a dime a dozen. F.R. is the conservative web site.

I'm about to leave my church where I've been a member, trustee and adult Sunday School teacher for many years. The Pastor (Baptist) who is outspoken politically from the pulpit and whom I've always thought to be "conservative", has stated that if Romney is the nominee, he will vote for him.

After that little message, I thanked him for the warning and let him know that if and when he started pushing Romney from the pulpit, that I'd be church shopping because I'm not going to sit there and listen to him campaign for Romney from the pulpit, where no rebuttals are allowed.

I also am friends with a lot of other members who feel that Romney is the absolute worse choice possible and would never vote for him in the primary or the general. They haven't told me they'd go "church shopping" as I'm committed to doing but I know people will find it sickening to have to listen to that from the pulpit and keep their mouths shut.

We actually have some democrat voters in our congregation and he has offended some already and I see members come and go, when they go I just wonder if his stepping on toes politically is the reason for it. Preachers should tell the truth from the pulpit (and in private) but should also learn a little diplomacy.

The reality is Mitt is the only republican (running) that can beat Obama in 2012. I wish there were alternatives, but the reality is, there isn’t.

Newt and Bachman would lose large against Obama. Perry, might have a chance, but I am afraid the public meme on him is already established.

Romney has the campaign organization and the donor are going to quickly fall in line early in this race. If Romney pulls out a win in Iowa, the cards will align quickly behind him.

I see Obama’s hail mary as selecting HRC as his running mate. That means Obama must get Rubio or Jindall on his ticket.

Think what someone like Romney would look like up against Reagan. The leadership factor for Romney is NON-EXISTANT, with the exception of advancing Obama’s pattern for health “care” in a state that would be all for it given their preferance for socialists in the big chair.

Has Lewis made any pronouncements regarding what to do about Iran getting nukes?

He promises to be "ROUGH!" on the Iranians.

LOL! Excellent! Take a bow. Wow!

” The reality is Mitt is the only republican (running) that can beat Obama in 2012. “

Balderdash. If a socialist like Romney, who is buying votes, absent a campaign of a single thing conservative, can beat Obama, think what a Republican can do on the final day. Especially one who single handedly actually converted Congress into a Republican majority after 40 years in the desert. Now that is leadership. The towel snapping to promote Romney the Socialist is a tad early.

I would say that in these times, the record of historic accomplishment, unmatched grasp of history, and the lascerating skills of speech may mean more in this election than the pattern maker for ObamaCare, Romney.

I agree with you entire post, especially this part:

“A Mitt Romney nomination will be a disaster for the Republicans, which is why the mainstream media is giving him the kid glove treatment while all the other candidates get anal exams. The Democrats love Mitt Romney almost as much as they loved John McCain.”

I know what you mean, I’m running into the same thing. They seem shocked when I tell them I can’t stand Mittens the dog abuser, they think he is the only one that can beat Hussein. I think they are wrong. I stand to make a lot of money on bets if it comes down to those two if Barry Soetoro beats him

Some slogans for the Romney campaign.

Vote for Romney. No sense looking for yet more ‘change’. It’s hopeless.

Romney in 2012. I’m not so bad. At least I’m not Ron Paul or Barak Obama.

Romney in 2012, killing future voters before they’re born.

Romney in 2012. It’s easy on the tongue.

Romney, Obama, whatever.

Romney. I photograph well.

Romney. It’s my turn, dammit.

That’s not true. My wife, daughter and plenty of other women I know would have no problem voting for Newt. So being attractive is now a prerequisite for being elected? Is that how low we have sunk? Besides, look at that skinny, jug eared fool in the WH now, you think he is attractive? LMAO!

I have yet to meet a woman who will vote for, let alone campaign for, Newt Gingrich.

Many of the women I know prefer Romney, and I am not making that up.

*****************************

No conservative, regardless of sex, would vote for Romney after his track record in Massachusetts.
