Shock Poll : Romney 45% Obama 39% [Drudge Headline]
Rasmussen Reports ^ | DECEMBER 27, 2011 | Rasmussen Reports

Posted on 12/29/2011 7:16:12 AM PST by RobinMasters

Mitt Romney has now jumped to his biggest lead ever over President Obama in a hypothetical Election 2012 matchup. It’s also the biggest lead a named Republican candidate has held over the incumbent in Rasmussen Reports surveying to date.

The latest national telephone survey finds that 45% of Likely U.S. Voters favor the former Massachusetts governor, while 39% prefer the president. Ten percent (10%) like some other candidate in the race, and six percent (6%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

A week ago, Romney trailed Obama 44% to 41%. The week before that, he held a slight 43% to 42% edge over the president. The two candidates have been essentially tied in regular surveys since January, but Romney remains the only GOP hopeful to lead Obama in more than one survey. Despite Romney’s current six-point lead, his latest level of support is in line with the 38% to 45% he has earned in matchups with the president this year. However, Obama’s 39% is a new low: Prior to this survey, his support has ranged from 40% to 46% in matchups with Romney.

A generic Republican candidate holds a narrow lead over the president again this week as has been the case all but three times in weekly tracking since late May. Obama leads all the other named GOP candidates by as little as seven and as much as 15 percentage points. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Texas Governor Rick Perry and businessman Herman Cain have all surged ahead of the president at one point but did not maintain those leads.

You may have to update your map. I think California’s electors go to whoever wins the popular vote nationwide.

Jerry Brown OKs potential change in awarding electoral votes .

The moderate Republicans and Dems I speak with are for Romney.

Ah, yes...the moderates. The spineless ones who only take a stand on one thing...indecision. The ones who Jesus Christ said He would vomit out of His mouth...

Thanks, losers...

If Romney gets the nomination I will be organizing a fishing trip for my southern friends for the first two weeks of November next year. We at least then will be doing something that makes sense. No Virgina, Mitt is not any better than Obama.

I still don't understand why you think that a short, overweight flip-flopper named Newt Gingrich will motivate women across America to come out and defeat Obama. Knowing that Gingrich has more baggage than a 747, I know all of his garbage will come to the surface courtesy of all the MSM torpedoes.

My argument on the attractiveness of candidates goes back to Kennedy/Nixon.

I was saying if beating Obama is the only goal, then Hilary is a safer bet than Romney, not that Hilary and Romney are the same. Romney is much more like Arnold, a moderate who becomes liberal whenever Democrats push him in that direction. More conservative than 75% of the population? I’d call that a stretch. More liberal than 85% of Republicans, that’s for sure.

Wrong. Presidential elections come down to who is the best COMMUNICATOR and who appears to be the STRONGEST LEADER. It has NOTHING to do with youth or looks. Romney loses to Obama on both those counts, if just barely on the leader front. Newt destroys Obama on both those counts.

Don't think I mentioned anything about youth or looks. I was referring to overall image and yes, communication skills and the appearance of being a strong leader are both key attributes which feed into the candidate's overall image.

That said, it remains to be seen what happens to Mitt when the media gets the signal (and they will get a signal) from Bamster’s minions to go after him with everything they got. The dog on the car roof, lack of miltary service, Bain Capital layoffs, Romneycare, flipflops, and Mormonism. . will all be on the table and will raise “serious questions”. . . in the MSM reports. I can see this coming a mile away. You are absolutely right. Obama's campaign has said it will be the fair-shot campaign... Romney will be the poster boy for the 1%, heartless capitalism, Mormonism, and just for a kicker - the past racist ideology of Mormonism, gives them the always reliable race card... I'll take Newt, even if he loses women... I am a woman. He hasn't lost me.

I suggest we not throw in the towel because the media says so. Remember the Alamo, and remember November, 2010.

There is a primary coming, where we are in charge of one thing—our nominee. Lets not hand the thing to Romney without a fight, or board the trains so willingly.

How many millions of women do you know?

Don’t you remember McCain divorced his wife after she was in a car accident. Did it ever come up in the general election? If the Democrats spend all their time talking about such nonsense, it will backfire badly on them. This country has serious problems and does not want to hear their politicians wasting time on gossip.

You hit the nail on the head when you said Drudge does not lead the “Mormon lifestyle.”

Can you please elaborate on what exactly this is insinuating? I am wondering what is meant by the "not Mormon lifestyle"? Does it mean Drudge likes caffeinated beverages a lot?

Clever photo post, but I stick with Newt. You lumber off with Romney without a fight if you choose to. Being a mark for the media and their bad news feed is not a compliment. When your pick advances conservatives nationally like Newt made history doing, give us a ring-a-ling. Otherwise, pull a Bachman and make straight the path for Romney.

If at least one of Obama’s supreme court nominations replaces a conservative, the court will be hopelessly liberal for a quarter century.
