Shock Poll : Romney 45% Obama 39% [Drudge Headline]
Rasmussen Reports ^ | DECEMBER 27, 2011 | Rasmussen Reports

Posted on 12/29/2011 7:16:12 AM PST by RobinMasters

Mitt Romney has now jumped to his biggest lead ever over President Obama in a hypothetical Election 2012 matchup. It’s also the biggest lead a named Republican candidate has held over the incumbent in Rasmussen Reports surveying to date.

The latest national telephone survey finds that 45% of Likely U.S. Voters favor the former Massachusetts governor, while 39% prefer the president. Ten percent (10%) like some other candidate in the race, and six percent (6%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

A week ago, Romney trailed Obama 44% to 41%. The week before that, he held a slight 43% to 42% edge over the president. The two candidates have been essentially tied in regular surveys since January, but Romney remains the only GOP hopeful to lead Obama in more than one survey. Despite Romney’s current six-point lead, his latest level of support is in line with the 38% to 45% he has earned in matchups with the president this year. However, Obama’s 39% is a new low: Prior to this survey, his support has ranged from 40% to 46% in matchups with Romney.

A generic Republican candidate holds a narrow lead over the president again this week as has been the case all but three times in weekly tracking since late May. Obama leads all the other named GOP candidates by as little as seven and as much as 15 percentage points. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Texas Governor Rick Perry and businessman Herman Cain have all surged ahead of the president at one point but did not maintain those leads.

So if Romney is the candidate, you would vote for him?

No, Drudge is coordinating his site with Romney

http://www.damndirtyrino.com/2011/10/04/the-drudge-romney-axis/

. . . of online media manipulation isn’t exactly new. In fact, it goes back well before Romney’s 2008 campaign got underway in earnest. It seems to date back to sometime in 2005, when RNC operatives arranged a meeting between Matt Drudge and Matt Rhodes — a highly placed operative in the Romney organization.

Last year, a delegation of RNC officials flew to Miami Beach, where Drudge lives, for a dinner at the Forge steakhouse to introduce the Internet maven to Matt Rhodes, the party’s new opposition research director.

Boycott Drudge

I’m not sure they’ll [women] vote for Romney, either and I believe the RNC made a huge mistake by not inventing a rock star for this election. I’m really not hopeful about the presidential election, between the republicans who claim they’ll stay home if Romney is the nominee and those who I know won’t vote for Newt because he’ll look like the short fat guy next to Obama.........I don’t know, maybe the focus should just be on the senate.

Incisive commentary. In presidential elections, it really does come down to who has the best image and this has basically held true since Kennedy/Nixon in 1960. This is why Mike Dukakis wore elevator shoes and asked for a step to be built into his podium in the 1988 campaign (so he would appear to be as tall as Bush). It all sounds so superficial but this is the environment that we must operate in.

“So why do people think that women will vote for Newt Gingrich?”

So, where in my post did I say women will vote for Newt Gingrich in the numbers needed to win (against Obama)? I agree with you that they won’t.

But, neither will men vote for Romney in the numbers needed to defeat Obama in the general election.

So if Romney is the candidate, you would vote for him?

When Newt is the candidate, are you going to vote for him?

Here they go again, trying to pick our candidate for us and all before even a first vote has been cast.

There is very little separation between Romney and Obama so if Romney gets the nod then the Lame Stream Media will use this lack of separation to make the claim that Obama should go ahead and get reelected.

Finally, someone who gets it.

I really would like to know how many people who are for Gingrich would refuse to vote in a Romney vs. Obama election.

Looks like Romney doesn’t need my one vote to carry Mississippi next year. So I can go fishing and keep my hands clean of the coming RINO debacle.

You hit the nail on the head when you said Drudge does not lead the “Mormon lifestyle.” He and Coulter are Hollywood-style Republicans, Arnold-style Republicans. That’s why they like Romney because he is a moderate-to-liberal Republican. You don’t seriously think he represents a devout religious lifestyle to anyone? No one who said what he said about abortion in his various campaigns could be. Romney is very much a Hollywood-style, Arnold-style Republican which is why Drudge and Coulter back him.

Mormons Romneys don’t serve in the military. Refuse to serve in the military. Let someone else do it.

Fixed it for you.

Talk about an orchestrated poll.

Why is every poll that disagrees with you (us) a fake poll? This is Ras, he is not exactly a left wing leaning pinko. Argue with his methodology maybe, but I think the guy is pretty good, and history has borne this out.

First off, I agree in pronciple. That’s why I’m voting for Newt.

However, it really is ridiculous to equate Romney with Hillary. Romney isn’t “Obama-lite”. He is probably more conservative than 75% of the population.

So go ahead and flame me. I WILL NOT VOTE FOR ROMNEY IN THE GENERAL ELECTION. He would do to much harm to the republican brand. He would possibly do more harm than Obama in many ways. He will govern to the left center.

Yes, but I still suspect that you would stay at home in an Obama Vs. Romney election.

I’d like to know that too. I’m not a Newt supporter.

But I am voting for the GOP nominee in the general election whoever it is.

Grant it, I didn’t read the article, but given there track record, I have trusted Ras for years and find this news stunning! Did we fail to coalesce soon enough, or what?

Another thing. If Romney defeats Brack by such a margin, Newt does too. After all, what Newt on the job has accomplished for conservatives is historic, proven, and on the record. Romney has always been a set back for conservative advances. As they say in TEXAS, hiring on Romney is like losing three good men.

I WILL NOT VOTE FOR ROMNEY IN THE GENERAL ELECTION.

So our National Security is better off for another four years with a Kenyan Stalinist than with Romney?

The women I know who understand what is at stake will vote for Newt.

Well, that's wonderful! The women you know will vote for Newt!

Guess what? There's millions of women you don't know who won't vote for Newt.
