At the request of the Virginia Republican Party, the State Board of Elections voted 3-0 today to close the March 6 presidential primary and require a loyalty oath for participation.
That means anyone who wants to vote must sign a form at the polling place pledging to support the eventual Republican nominee for president. Anyone who refuses to sign the pledge will be barred from voting.

- That should effectively close the primary from Dhim voters like those who crossed over to help McLame get the nomination. That is a good thing.
- However, that would require me to support the Chameleon if he was the nominee. Can't do that. So, either I lie when taking the oath or I would have to sit that one out. (Not a VA voter, so it's not an issue, but, still...)
A loyalty oath to support whoever the eventual nominee is? Wtf? Any precedent for this in other GOP primaries?
I didn’t realize how messed up Virginia was.
They should first and foremost make the primary a closed primary.
This oath is a “pile” ... no enforcement. What a joke.
Watch that get tossed
The GOP is seriously determined to lose the election to Obama, aren’t they?
I thought loyalty oaths to political animals went out in 1945, and was buried in nuremburg.
Nothing to see here!
Asking for a loyalty oath for the voters is total BS. I'd rather ride the leadership of the party out of town on a rail ~ after, of course, tarring and feathering them.
What you'll never see is the Republican party leadership pledging to be loyal to the voters!
With only Paul and Floppy on the ballot, why vote at all? I feel sorry for you Va FReepers, ya’ll got cheated out of a legitimate primary this time.
They’ve really taken the wind out of our sails here in Va. I wouldn’t vote for either of those 2 ying yangs if they were giving away hundred dollar bills.
Then Newt wouldn’t be able to vote in Virginia. He has already pledged he will not support the party if the nominee is Paul. Call this moot since Paul has zero chance of being the nominee but Gingrich has extablised the principle that there things more important than electing a Republican.
Virginia determined to make a total fool of itself.
It’s almost like their governor was promised a certain something by a certain weird someone.
I’m sure this is totally legal. /s
What are the reprecussions and how is this enforcable? I dont plan to support either candidate, but will probably vote for Paul in protest.
So, the ink isn’t even dry on Perrys lawsuit and VA flips America the finger.
Interesting, but unenforceble.
But, the RPV is a private organization and they can exclude who ever they want, including Rick Perry.
You cant close the primary. There is no voter party affiliation here.
Virginians don’t need unenforceable loyalty oaths; they need choices and candidates they can believe in. This joke must be fixed. Now.
