China launched a super-rapid test train over the weekend which is capable of travelling 500 kilometers per hour, state media said on Monday, as the country moves ahead with its railway ambitions despite serious problems on its high-speed network. The train, made by a subsidiary of CSR Corp Ltd, China's largest train maker, is designed to resemble an ancient Chinese sword, the official Xinhua news agency reported.
It "will provide useful reference for current high-speed railway operations," it quoted train expert Shen Zhiyun as saying.

Exactly. I’ve ridden the high speed trains in China (from Shanghai to Nanjing) and they’re a lot of Siemens units. China paid the Germans and Japanese to come in, show them how to build the systems, how to lay the rail, and to provide a few hundred cars.
Then China began duplicating.
Nothing I’d seen in China reminded me at all of any AMTRAK train or system I’ve ever seen... European and Japanese, sure - but not American.
a train or anything else traveling at this speed along the ground is just plain stupid. Too many things can go wrong as far as things getting in the way.
We must be getting closer to town.
How can you tell?
We're hitting more people.
Considering we have one of the worst train systems in the world, why would they try to steal our technology?
The lesson is, that, until America can achieve the labor costs of China, we will never be able to afford a high tech society.
Who in hell cares whether the technology was “stolen?” China is using it, while we’re not. The future belongs to those who take risks. Let the meek inherit the Earth - it’s all they deserve.
CA high speed LA-SF derailed. The technology and know-how is there but prohibitive labor costs. Communist China has no unions. Rich in irony.
Willie Green would be proud.
What happens when a water buffalo stand on the tracks in front of one of those? Will the nose crumple or is it an armored ram?
So using advanced technology to transport on high speed rails makes one a "liberal hippie"?
Can you spell Luddite...
Better yet just cut power to the mag lev system when the thing hits full speed. Whole new version of chinese fireworks.
I’d pay to see that..
Thanks for the post, looking forward to more train ones.
Unless it runs on an elevated track or in a tunnel where could this train run at that speed?
Yes, you sure did miss "something". By your thinking, as powered aircraft have been around for more than 100 years, the Concorde would be "just a hippies dream".
Fail.
Passenger railroads are as much of a money loser for them as it is for anyone else.
There are beautiful freeways parallel to their train tracks between the major cities and they are full of cars and buses.
In China, they’re almost always elevated ways...
