ALOHA, Ore. An Aloha couple woke up Christmas morning to a man hitting them with a tiki torch.
Washington County deputies are investigating the incident, which started with a home invasion, according to spokesman Bob Ray. It happened at a home on 209th Street.
According to Ray, a man believed to be on drugs broke into the back door of the home while the couple was asleep, grabbed a bamboo tiki torch and took it into the bedroom where he beat the couple with it.
The husband, who has not been identified, grabbed a handgun in self-defense and a bullet discharged during a struggle.
No one was hurt, Ray said. The bullet went into a wall.
Deputies arrived at the home and took the suspect, who has not been identified, into custody. They took the man to a hospital for a mental evaluation and planned to book him into the Washington County Jail.
The woman in the home was also taken to a hospital to treat an anxiety attack, Ray said.
OK, I asked for it.
They should have repelled him by throwing a can of pineapple rings at him.
"How 'bout a nice Hawaiian Punch?"
"Sure!"
Didn’t you carry a Tiki Torch instead of a nightstick?
I used to borrow Sit-rep’s tiki torches!
I don’t know WTF you are trying to say.
I mentioned the Carry permits meaning that there are a lot of people ready, willing, and able to defend themselves in this county. It does not surprise me this guy could not get an accurate shot off. Being woken up with a beating is not really a tactical advantage.
I carry 24/7.
Well howdy, neighbor!
I’m a few blocks down the street from there also.
Ten years ago, this was a rural area.
Now it seems as Aloha grows, the creeps are creeping in.
I thought I got away from all that when we moved here from Portland.
You show your ignorance by mistaking City of Portland proper for all of Oregon.
Oregon usually interprets self defense quite (forgive the term) liberally.
State law even allows shooting to stop an arsonist, among many other “non-violent” felonies in progress, let alone to defend self or others.
Yes I do. I never lived in Oregon. I did live in Washington and I know that the Left side of WA is nothing like the Right side. Unfortunately, the Left side seems to have most of the political clout. Oregon seems to have the same problem. There are conservative areas of Massachusetts and Maryland too, but overall the states are left-leaning.
Cool I’m near 196th and southview. Beer sometime?
