Residents in the Syrian city of Homs called for western intervention on Saturday after activists said the area has come under renewed attack from forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad.
Al Jazeera cited residents who told the network on Saturday that army tanks were shelling the city. Activists in the Bab Amr district said they had been under siege for the last 48 hours.
One resident told the network, There is heavy bombardments going on since early morning and there is non-stop firing so far. So many people are been killed, we have counted so far 16 people have been killed and weve got so many injured, so many houses have been destroyed and we don't know what to do. Everywhere from every side we can see tanks very clearly and different types of heavy machine guns have been used since morning.
Activists told Al Jazeera that the bodies of four civilians who had been arrested were found on Saturday with signs of torture. They added at least 28 people were killed across the country on Saturday.
The reports on the renewal of the siege on Homs came as Arab League monitors met Syrias foreign minister, Walid Muallem, on Saturday to discuss the arrival of a team to oversee a deal aimed at ending nine months of bloodshed.
On Thursday, the Arab League sent an advance team to Syria to prepare for the arrival of observers who will monitor Assads compliance regime with the Leagues demand to end clashes with opposition forces.

I look forward to the report that Assad’s long neck was made even longer.
Where is the Muslim Brotherhood?
Everyone is wondering where the person that can help them is.
Hint: He has a 7:00am tee time.
The foreign policy of the Obama regime is to take down secular dictators to replace them with Islamic extremists.
I suppose that’s the “Change” part that throws the “Hope” part right out the window. Incompetence is as incompetence does.
I've read that Sunni mobs are already abducting and summarily executing Alawites.
It's interesting that Assad's still doing his pan-Arab schtick, hoping to sell the Sunnis in Syria on the idea that the protesters are just a bunch of Islamist malcontents (which they are). The problem he has is that if most Sunnis in Syria are Islamist malcontents, like their brethren in most of the Mid East, he really doesn't have a choice but to drive large numbers of them out of the country and kill those who resist, just to ensure the continued survival of the Alawite (and non-Sunni) community.
Barry Rubin thinks most Sunnis in Syria are secularists. The election results in Tunisia, which resulted in the Islamist party winning the largest share of votes, despite Rubin's predictions to the contrary, are an example of how his pessimistic predictions weren't pessimistic enough.
Unless the Turks intervene the Syrian regime will survive.
Thanks Eleutheria5.
I thought the Turks would act, and still think that will happen.
Lebanese have been instrumental in what armed resistance that has taken place.
