I look forward to the report that Assad’s long neck was made even longer.
Where is the Muslim Brotherhood?
I've read that Sunni mobs are already abducting and summarily executing Alawites.
It's interesting that Assad's still doing his pan-Arab schtick, hoping to sell the Sunnis in Syria on the idea that the protesters are just a bunch of Islamist malcontents (which they are). The problem he has is that if most Sunnis in Syria are Islamist malcontents, like their brethren in most of the Mid East, he really doesn't have a choice but to drive large numbers of them out of the country and kill those who resist, just to ensure the continued survival of the Alawite (and non-Sunni) community.
Barry Rubin thinks most Sunnis in Syria are secularists. The election results in Tunisia, which resulted in the Islamist party winning the largest share of votes, despite Rubin's predictions to the contrary, are an example of how his pessimistic predictions weren't pessimistic enough.
Unless the Turks intervene the Syrian regime will survive.
