Newt Gingrich isn't exactly chasing the gay vote.

The Republican presidential candidate told a homosexual Iowa man at a campaign event on Tuesday to vote for President Obama.

Scott Arnold, a Democrat and associate professor of writing at William Penn University, approached the ex-House speaker in Oskaloosa wanting to know how Gingrich would represent him as President, according to the Des Moines Register.

Newt is funny. I guess if we’re going to get drubbed, might as well vote for somebody that will make the loss interesting.

I thought it was refreshingly honest. Can you imagine what Romney would do for this gay DEMOCRAT’s vote?

He’s probably become gay for at least one night to get the “gay” democrat vote...which will never vote for him anyway.

Newt avoided the “zinger” follow up by this guy and didn’t waste time with someone who clearly isn’t interested in voting for him. He’s better off spending his time with people who will vote for him.

A good, stable candidate could have used any number of different responses. It’s entirely possible that Speaker Gingrich recognized the questioner as an activist. Thus, his response was a good one.

The press would never leave out part of the context of this situation now would they? /sarc

and what are you willing to do or compromise on to chase this guys vote?

gay marriage perhaps?
gay sex ed?
gays as a protected class with affirmative action?

Either we become liberals, or just tall them to go vote for obama and stick to principles.

On this one- go Newt.

a Democrat, [gay] and associate professor of writing at William Penn University

It was a trap question since this guy will vote for Obama no matter what Gingrich said to him. However, Gingrich missed an opportunity.

Newt should have said that if you vote for me, I’ll see to it that you get the help you so desperately need to be straight again.

The simple fact is many Dem voters vote that way simply because the Dem candidate will pander to them a lot more than a Republican. Not that Pubbies don’t pander, they just don’t do it as much as Dems are eager to do. Most women who vote for Dems do so because of Dems support for unlimited abortions. They care little about other issues like national defense or the economy. For these single-minded selfish Americans, personal issues trump all other issues. That’s what a great majority of Dem voters are: selfish individuals who care more about themselves than their country.

Gingrich should have told the guy that he would pray for him, and ask got to give him the strength to resist the sin of homosexuality. That would have REALLY made the liberals heads explode (and probably locked up the evangelical vote for Newt).

Yes, but the big, super-rich, lawyered-up gay organizations do not.

Big Gay will come out on top no matter what, no pun intended. They’re into the government at every level like white on rice.

Read the story, freep the poll!

What do you think about Gingrich's remarks?
Good for him for taking a stand.
What an idiot.
I don't know

FREEP THIS POLL ***PING!*** FRmail me if you want to be added or removed from the Fearless Poll-Freeping Freepers Ping list. And be sure to ping me to any polls that need Freepin', if I miss them. (looks like a medium volume list) (gordongekko909, founder of the pinglist, stays on the list until his ghost signs up for the list)

I agree. I support Rick Perry. But if it comes down to a Romney vs. Newt battle, then I would support Mitt.

But.. I’m beginning to waiver on that. I have a pic I use from time to time. It’s Newt on the couch with Nancy. And the caption says... Newt. Our new McCain.

But lately I see more similarities betwen Newt and Nixon. I do. Nixon was a devious schemer and so is Newt. Nixon had the bones to engage his enemies as does Newt. I could go on and on.

"When you ask somebody a question and you expect them to support all Americans and have everyone's general interest," Arnold said. "It's a little bit frustrating and disheartening when you're told to support the other side, that he doesn't need your support."

Pretty much sums up my feelings toward Obama & Bill Clinton before him. Neither had my interests in their agenda. Moreover we get lectured about it. At least Newt dispensed with the lecture-part!

"Scott Arnold, a Democrat and associate professor of writing at William Penn University"

Lets keep in mind that this guy is a Democrat and was most likely trying to bait Gingrich. We only have his side of the story. Who knows what was really said. The answer should have been that he's going to get the government off his back and treat him the same way as all other Americans are treated.

Mr Arnold should start being an American first and foremost and stop wearing his sexuality on his sleeve then.

This guy had no intentions of supporting him no matter what, this was just an attempt to cause trouble, nothing more.

2. However, if he simply said, “as a gay man, how will you help me?” Newt should have answered “by cutting the deficit, getting Obama’s insane spending under control and keeping the country secure.” Despite what the Left wants people to believe, gay people care about these issues just as much as anyone else.

That should have been Newt's answer. However, I do not agree that gays care as much about these issues. I'm sure some do; but the real flamers only care about being gay and being validated for being gay. It is difficult to imagine being so sex-obsessed you will vote for a candidate based on his/her pandering to your lifestyle. Sadly, that is how many gays (including the one who questioned Newt) make decisions as to whom to vote for in elections.
