Angelina Jolie has aroused praise and criticism in Bosnia with her first film as a director, a story of love and war set during the bloody Balkans conflict. ... But in the Balkans, another world from the star-studded American premieres and glitzy after-parties, the film is inflaming old and deeply-held emotions. ... Former Bosnian Muslim war prisoners and relatives of massacre victims, some of them initially critical, lauded In the Land of Blood and Honey after being invited to a private screening to allay earlier fears about the subject matter.
But the leader of a Bosnian Serb prisoners group has slammed the film for its allegedly one-sided depiction of the atrocities and called for it to be banned from the country's Serbian areas. ... Murat Tahirovic, who heads an association of ex-prisoners of war, added: "This film is deeply moving for the victims who experienced all of these things.
"It is completely objective and it really tells the facts of what happened during the war. She succeeded in telling the story of the whole war in her film and to show... situations that detainees faced - mass executions, rapes, [being used as] human shields and all the other horrors."
But Branislav Djukic, who heads the Bosnian Serb Association of Camp Prisoners, had a very different reaction after seeing a trailer. He said that the film "is showing lies" as it depicts only Serbs as rapists during the war and called for it to be barred from cinemas in the autonomous Serbian half of Bosnia. "We'll do our best to ban the film," he said. ...

Disgusting.
You mean those Croats who drove out over 250,000 Serbs in the single largest act of ethnic cleansing since WWII and who almost had their clocks cleaned by the Canadians when the Croats were slaughtering unarmed civillians in the Medak pocket or those Croats who bombed the piss out of the Muslms in Mostatr, you mean those Croats?
Hollywood’s typical historical revisionist schtick.
yup - those Croats.
And when the Croats aren’t killing Serbs, the Serbs are killing Croats.
And when the Serbs aren’t killing Croats, they’re killing muslims.
And when the muslims aren’t getting killed - they’re killing Serbs and Croats.
And while all this killing is going on - you’ve still got those commies in the mix right?
My point? It’s very complicated. If you try to keep score, eventually it all comes full circle.
And what I usually see on this board is....people seem to think it’s as clean and easy as taking sides between serbs and muslims.
It just isn’t.
....and everybody hates the Jews... (with apologies to Tom Lehrer)
I predict the film will bomb.
They bombed Belgrade for weeks; I remember the burning Yugo factory (and the Italians actually relaying to the Serbs when flights were leaving their airbases - even they knew it was a hoax).
You can't get half of America to pay attention to the destruction that Obozo is perpetrating here and they expect people to sit in a theater and watch Angelina's film depicting mass executions, rapes, etc.
I'll PASS on this one !
Yes, must keep that anti-Serb propaganda going lest someone forget their fifteen years of Serb-hating, mental programming. Anglina Jolie is also a UN Ambassador. Coincidence? I don't thinks so.
ANYTHING to defend the Muslim hordes. Bosnia. Kosovo. Wherever. The Muslims are ALWAYS the victims. Digusting.
Yes again. But in all honesty I don't think that it is really about "defending the Muslims" per se or even about some abject hatred for Serbs. I think that it's really about the politicians and policy wonks defending THEMSELVES, their policies and their actions. The powers that be have to keep demonizing the Serbs to make what is clearly persecution and imperialistic behavior by the EU & NATO toward the Serbs seem "justified" to cover their own butts for what they are doing. So when Serb Christians in Kosovo have no heat, their churches have been blown up and their children are starving -- those that created this situation for their own benefit, must "remind the world of the Serb rapists in Bosnia" to pretend that "the Serbs are getting what they deserve".
While all this may feel very personal for those of us with Serb ancestry because Serbs are the target this time, I suggest that the intention isn't as personal as it feels. These bastard politicians would and will do the same to anyone in their way, anyone who is inconvenient to their agenda, anyone they want to steal from -- and anyone who shows them for the cold, bloodless, profiteering and narcissistic monsters that they really are.
The Serbs may have been the first victims of this complete demonization, but they won't be the last.
There is a review of Ms. Jolie’s (Ms. Voight’s, really) movie by Bill Dorich on the 1389 Blog, dated December 17, 2011:
(Due to a technical problem, I cannot link to the post directly—you’ll have to click on the main blog and then scroll down. It’s worth it!)
As the Nativity Fast winds down for some of us, and continues into early January for others of our Brothers and Sisters, please consider a donation to the Decani Monastery Fund and/or IOCC. Our Brothers and Sisters in North Kosovo especially need our help, and Fr. Nektarios Serfes of the Decani Fund is planning to go there in early 2012, despite NATO, EULEX, and the Albanians.
The technical problem has been fixed.
To see the Bill Dorich review (the best I’ve seen), go here:
http://1389blog.com/2011/12/17/review-of-in-the-land-of-blood-and-honey-a-movie-by-angelina-jolie/
It’s not fixed. I emailed them again. Its still takes you straight to Brock’s Media Cleansing book
I just tried it again, and it was O.K.
I believe you, but I have no idea how you are getting there because that link just keeps taking me to the book when I click on it. I even tried a cut & paste and it redirected me to GM Books anyway.
When I first noticed the problem, they told me it was my computer or browser making the error (redirecting to Dorich’s publisher’s site), not their site’s problem. Now it works for me, but not for you. ???????
OK. The link works properly in IE, it redirects to Media Cleansing in Firefox. That’s weird.
I cleared the Firefox browser cache & now it works.
Lookie here:
Angelina Jolie (Voight) consulted “the usual suspects” in making her film.
The debut was “co-sponsored by the Council on Foreign Relations”.
State-sponsored political propaganda at it’s finest!
Good point.
