Under withering attack from the establishment Republicans, no wonder. This is the mid-90’s all over again. Who passed the Contract With America, produced balanced budgets 4 years, drove Welfare Reform, pushed tax reform, and was Speaker of the House when the economy blasted off after the 94 election? I am not in love with all things Newt, but this attack from the moderates will take us all down.
Even under a totally divided GOP base, Newt is within 10 points, and Obama is still under 50%. These polls are crap.
Mitt the self confessed non red meat candidate.
“I am not in love with all things Newt, but this attack from the moderates will take us all down.”
If he can’t even handle attacks in the primary, how will he ever survive once dems pull out the long knives for him? Which they will viciously do the moment he clinches the nomination. It’s no coincidence that all the recent attacks come from republicans who know him, and dems are being very very quiet. Even Obama’s best girl Nancy got shushed.
totally divided? newt is up 25 points everywhere
Rasmussen said this morning in WMAL that even Huntsman or a late entrant had a chance. But remember this, McCain would have beaten 0bama in 2008 had it not been for the fire in the Reichstag.
The budget was never really balanced. Our total debt has increased every single year since 1969.
Amen and btw as a woman I don’t really care what Newt and his wives did.I’m looking for a President not a husband....
The reason these matchup polls are always suspect is because people intentionally skew them.
Rasmussen polls likely voters, and anyone who is not the candidate of choice during a primary is going to vote “nay” on any other candidate running in order to make their own candidate the most electable.
Just look at FR, for example, the most likely of voters. How many folks here would (or perhaps already are) say they would not vote for Newt Gingrich in the hopes of making him appear unelectable in the hope that their candidate will fill the not-Romney void? I would dare say a large percentage here would do just that. Mind you, it is not restricted to just FR.
You simply cannot use polls like this while a primary is still going on. There is too much meddling. A ham sandwich will start with 45% of the vote upon winning the GOP or DNC nomination - that’s a fact. It’s the middle 10% that is in question.
Mind you, look at the battleground states. Only two candidates sweep Obama in all of them: Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich.
