Glenn Beck’s third-party insanity
The Washington Times ^ | 12/14/2011 | Brett M. Decker

Posted on 12/14/2011 5:27:16 AM PST by Scanian

Beck said on Monday that he could support a third-party challenge if Republicans nominate former House Speaker Newt Gingrich to run for president against Barack Obama. “If I had a gun to my head, I’ll vote for Mitt Romney,” he explained. “If it’s Newt Gingrich, and there’s a third party, and it’s Ron Paul. … I might consider Ron Paul as a third party.” This position is nuts. Obviously Mr. Beck needs to generate attention for his new GBTV venture since giving up his popular Fox News platform, but promoting ideas that would lead to an Obama second term is reckless and bad for America.

Make no mistake about it, a third-party presence from the right in the 2012 election would bring about conservative defeat and marginalize the movement for years. Recent history shows that splitting up a party leads to ruination for that party and its main constituent components

For some of us, if the GOP forces another progressive republican down our throats we will have no choice but to look elsewhere. Many real conservatives sat out in 2008 because they couldn’t stomach voting for McCain. People want to participate in the process and help bring about the election of real, principled, solid conservatives. The GOP establishment has other plans....we will make other plans as well. Many of us are saddened that the GOP no longer cares about conservative principles.

Amen. And we didn't leave the GOP, the GOP has left us. We're still the same Conservatives we always were, it's just the GOP seems Hell-bent on moving left.

Bachmann is my primary choice but I have no intent to vote for the alternate reality of Newt Gingrich as the oppressed outsider.

"If Beck is such a huge friend of Israel, which he is always trumpeting, how could he support Ron Paul for a third party run?"

I have my radio tuned to the station that carries Rush, and turned it on to get the local news at 9AM. It was still on when Beck came on immediately after. He led off on a "Newt" rant, and one of his first callers posed the same question you asked.

Beck said (paraphrased), "Even so, I would still do it, and just have to 'argue with God about it afterwards".

Mark Levin said last night on his show that pretty soon Ron Paul's connections to well-known right-wing kooks will be made more public.

For instance, see my 2010 post on FR on the connections to people like Cindy "Mother" Sheehan's old boyfriend, Lew Rockwell, et.al. :) bttt

I think Beck has fallen off the wagon. Only a stammering drunk would take the positions he has taken lately.

Instead of whining about what Glenn beck would do if newt is nominated, how about working hard to get a real conservative like michelle bachman nominated instead.

Why run the plays when you can just write a sports column ;o)

His contributions to the political arena have been staggering.

"You can poo-poo at Beck, and you go for Boortz?!?!?! What’s next, Alex Jones?

HILARIOUS statement!! LOL

You'll see why I say that if you click my link in post #23 above. LOL

I want Obama GONE.

I don’t care if I make the baby Jesus cry because the guy that gets him out won’t make Pope.

Unlike Beck, I actually realized how dangerous Obama is in this position and have made HIM my priority.

I’m willing to get my hands dirty so that some of you can keep yours soft and pure.

Many real conservatives sat out in 2008 because they couldn’t stomach voting for McCain.

And those that did, only did so because of Palin. We're not going to get sucked into THAT again!

Everyone always says a third party can not win, but I am not convinced of that. The GOP has turned itself into a progressive party while the Rats have gone totally Marxist. Ergo there is no conservative party to vote for. Since most people in the country are conservative to one degree or another I think a real conservative party might have a chance at winning. Certainly having to choose from Mitt/Newt or Obama is going to be a real turn off for many conservatives.

Well, if you mean because he claims to actually research his subject matter, rather than just snark over what's in the news, a-la John Stewart, I'd have to agree.

The difference is Boortz is still spinning his wheels in the the same puddle he's always been stuck in, while Beck is steadily (and swiftly) building himself into a right-wing Opra.

Glenn Beck is astoundingly ignorant about politics. He shouldn’t go there.

I just bemuses me to listen to so many say with such iron clad certainty - [insert candidate] CANNOT BEAT OBAMA.

The best guess anyone can make right now is that you could pick a republican at random and the vote result is going to be 50.1/40.9 and flip a coin which side is on top.

The irony is that without Ron Paul’s policies there will be total economic collapse and then NO money for defense. As for being Scandinavian, you wish. Total collapse. Scandinavia largely depends on exports to prosperous foreigners(think Volvo) and tourism(by the prosperous).

You know what’s funny?

When Beck (intentionally) says outrageous things to make people question what they’re thinking when supporting “conservatives” like Newt, he’s taken seriously.

But, when “conservatives” like Newt rank FDR as the greatest president of the 20th century, calls himself a “Realpolitik Wilsonian”, criticizes Paul Ryan’s budget plan as “right-wing social engineering” (WOW — that’s a biggie for me), works as a consultant for Fannie/Freddie during the downfall, favored an individual mandate, declares the era of Reagan as over, supports amnesty, and sits in solidarity with Nancy Pelosi, he wasn’t serious about those things.

Now THAT’S funny.
