Scarborough: Like Beck, I'd Consider Third-Party Ron Paul Over Gingrich
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 12/13/2011 6:24:38 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

Today's Morning Joe has been one long festival of Gingrich gouging.

Joe Scarborough set the tone early. During the opening segment Scarborough announced that, like Glenn Beck, if the choice comes down to Obama vs. Gingrich, and Ron Paul is running as a third-party candidate, "I'm going to give him a long look."

Newt is a train wreck. I can’t believe he will be the nominee.

Bachmann, Paul, Santorum , even huntsman, are better than romney or newt.

"And isnt Ron Paul seriously Anti-Israel?"

No. Only in the minds of some here.

The trouble in what you present is that the primary winner is only the winner of the Republican primary. That winner does not necessarily represent the will of the American people. The GOP is a private organization, nowhere mentioned in the Constitution.

So it’s not accurate to say the winner is chosen by the people. The winner will be chosen by some of the people who vote in the primary nomination of a private organization.

Do you not ever wonder why these people that worked with newt do not trust the man. No, it is all of them are wrong and you are right??? Why/??/, Maybe they know the same information the committee has hidden that will be leaked before the election.

Wow, you are so right. Let's just keep Obama.

Small strokes fell great oaks.

I view the nomination of anyone but Romney to be a victory for the Tea Party movement, because we will have stopped the cycle of the GOP establishment calling all the shots on the nomination.

Cain would have been a huge victory; Gingrich will be a small victory—but still a victory.

Our goal should be to move the Tea Party movement forward one step at a time. A lot of our steps will be imperfect, but as long as we’re moving forward, we’re moving in the right direction.

Gingrich is far from the perfect Tea Party candidate (if he can be called that at all), but at least he is a move in the right direction. He is part of the solution of (eventually) wresting control away from the GOP establishmet/RINOs.

Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good. For our purposes, Gingrich is a good candidate—far from perfect, but good in that he (1) acheives a small political victory for the Tea Party and (2) moves the ball in the right direction.

Joe, you are a fake conservative. Nothing you say will ever get Mika to truly like you. Just stop the charade.

Scarborough: Like Beck, I'd Consider Third-Party Ron Paul Over Gingrich

Forget a third-party, how about an actual second party. Instead of blaming so-called third-party contenders, blame the GOP for putting up such wretched candidates.

Why is it a certainty that Obama wins in a three way race, anyway? Are average Republicans such mind numbed robots that they'll vote for any lump of meat in a suit and tie the GOP rolls out, no matter how disgustingly liberal and anti-American.

Nevermind.

Thanks for setting me straight I though I was watching Paul giving a speech on TV. Thanks for setting me straight. ////HUGE sarcasm alert///

“No, it is all of them are wrong and you are right??? “

FR groupthink says the more people that hate him the better candidate he is. So if no one at all likes him, he must be great?

Hard to get elected that way.

I admit, I’ve chosen Gingrich, but it does make me uneasy to hear all the people who don’t like him based on past experiences with him.

The reality is, for the GOP, it’s Gingrich or Romney, period. And I’m not happy at all with Romney.

I strongly suspect we’re looking at 4 more years of the Obama disaster. But if we get enough people on unemployment, then we’ll create jobs, Obama told me so!

If you start from the idea that Gingrich can’t possibly beat Obama anyway

I've been to this rodeo before. This is the exact same thing said about Reagan in 1980. The GOP establishment even pushed a 3rd party candidate (Anderson), who didn't fold his campaign until Reagan nominated a GOP insider for VP (Bush).

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

"Gingrich can't win" will become a self-fulfilling prophecy if the GOP old-guard underimines him (as they did in 1964 and started to do in 1980).

If the American people have a choice between Obama and Gingrich (no third parties to drain off votes) Gingrich certainly can win for the same reason Reagan won against Carter--Obama is an inept disaster as president; the average American may not know the answer, but they know Obama isn't it (just as they knew Carter wasn't the answer).

The last time I checked we still had people other than you idol running. And no one has voted yet.

The gist of the article you were supporting was "better 3rd party than Gingrich", which, loosely translated means "4 more years of Obama".

I listened to Beck try and explain the progressivism, I wasn’t convinced or impressed. I think Beck has jumped the Shark. Time will tell.

Ron Paul is Anti-Israel “only in the minds of some here”.

Then please explain why he characterized Israel as “an aggressive, national socialist state” and suggested that the original World Trade Center bombing may have really been carried out by Israel.

He has also stated that the Jewish lobby “plays congress like a harmonica.”

During an interview with Iranian television, he compared Gaza to a concentration camp and during a speech on the House floor he said the following - “Bin Laden’s claims are straightforward. The U.S. defiles Islam with military bases on holy land in Saudi Arabia, its initiation of war against Iraq, with 12 years of persistent bombing, and its dollars and weapons being used against the Palestinians as the Palestinian territory shrinks and Israel’s occupation expands. There will be no peace in the world for the next 50 years or longer if we refuse to believe why those who are attacking us do it.”

Sure he isn’t Anti-Israel.
