GOP Senators to elect new Vice Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference
Senate Conservatives Fund - E-mail | Dec 12, 2011 | Senator Jim DeMint

Posted on 12/12/2011 4:08:42 PM PST by Iam1ru1-2

Fellow Conservatives:

Many of you have contacted me to express your support for stronger voices within the Senate Republican leadership. You may be interested to know that Senate Republicans will vote tomorrow to elect a new Vice Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference.

U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) recently stepped down from leadership, setting off a mid-session shake up.

As a result, U.S. Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) -- a rock-solid conservative and SCF-endorsed candidate in 2010 -- has put his name forward as a candidate for Vice Chair.

The Senate Conservatives Fund supported Ron Johnson last year and helped propel him to victory in one of the most exciting Senate races in the country. Since coming to the Senate, Johnson has demonstrated both principle and courage. In fact, he scored a 91% rating in the new Heritage Action scorecard for his conservative leadership.

The vote tomorrow will be a major indicator of whether Senate Republicans want to move forward with principled, courageous leadership. I would normally ask you to contact your senators to urge support for Johnson, but the vote tomorrow will be taken by secret ballot so outside pressure will likely have little effect.

There is something you can do, however, to continue to push Senate Republicans in the right direction.

Don Stenberg, candidate for U.S. Senate in Nebraska, announced his support for Ron Johnson today. This is yet another example of Stenberg's willingness to stand with conservatives against the establishment and it's yet another reason why freedom-loving Americans must continue to do everything we can to elect him.

While many Republicans are afraid to take a stand on an issue like this, Don Stenberg is not. He believes deeply in the principles of freedom and he understands the role the U.S. Constitution plays in safeguarding those freedoms.

But winning will not be easy. Last week, I told you how Senate Republican leaders are working to recruit a lesser challenger to Stenberg. You can watch Stenberg's response here.

Unfortunately, the Washington establishment continues to promote the false argument that conservatives are less electable despite being proven wrong in countless races last year.

The truth is, to be successful, Republicans need to offer voters a real choice. Ron Johnson did exactly that in Wisconsin where most people said a Republican could not win. And now Don Stenberg is offering voters in Nebraska a chance to elect someone who will stand up to the big spenders in both political parties.

I don't know what the outcome will be in the leadership election tomorrow, but I do know we still need more conservatives in the U.S. Senate to restore America's greatness. Please continue to support Don Stenberg and the other conservative candidates we've endorsed for the 2012 elections.

Together, we can strengthen the U.S. Senate and take America back.

Respectfully,

Jim DeMint United States Senator Chairman, Senate Conservatives Fund

To all the Newt supporters who hiss that only Newt is worthy of my conservative vote...

...well, Ron Johnson is the kind of politician I would vote for and would go knocking on doors to get him re-elected.

I contacted both my Senators last week on this ... asking them to vote for Senator Ron Johnson. It would be good for other FReepers to do this too....if you haven’t already.

It needs to go VIRAL!

I emailed Scott Brown on this and advised him to vote for Johnson. My bet is he votes for Blunt, since that’s who turkey-neck, owl McConnell wants. Murkowski, Snowe, Collins, Lugar, McCain, et al. They’ll all vote for Blunt.

Thank you for the ping!

Ron Johnson is wonderful!

I saw another endorsement somewhere for Don Stenberg!
Might have been (and likely was) in my email from Senator DeMint!

Will write to my two unworthy senators right now.

Amen brother. There are conservatives out there, we just have to support them.

“Conservative Enough” is not a conservative argument. It’s a political argument.

I'll assume the "secret ballot" is so no Senator will know who voted "out of line with Mitch".
How lame, there is no such thing as a "secret ballot" in DC.
Too my whores. It's only secret from you and I.
Anybody got a pulse on this vote?
Personally I think DeMint and RJ rock!

It’s Ron Johnson versus Roy Blunt. Easy choice. It would be a mistake to put Blunt back in a leadership post.

Call me cynical.......But to be, the real question to ask is......Who counts the votes ?

And would it really be hard to Mitch to figure out which senators voted "out of line" and which toed the line ?

I think the fix is in for Blunt.......

I would really be surprised if the GOP senators backed the WI senator for this position. They didn’t stand up to firmly years ago for another WI senator. GOP senators are nearly always spineless.
