During an interview with 60 Minutes on Sunday, President Obama was asked if he could understand why the American people are frustrated with the lack of economic recovery. Obama responded by saying he "doesn't control the weather."
"No matter how well we're steering the ship, if the boat's rocking back and forth and people are getting sick and, you know, they're being buffeted by the winds and the rain ... if you're asking, 'Are you enjoying the ride right now?' folks are going to say, 'No.' " Obama said. "People are going to say, 'You know what? A good captain would have had us in some smooth waters and sunny skies at this point.' And I don't control the weather."
Obama may not control the weather, but he does control what projects and legislation to sign in order to foster an environment that allows the economy to recover. To continue off of the boat analogy, the American economy was a sinking ship in 2009 when Obama was sworn into office and he decided to "fix" it not by bailing water out of the boat, but by pouring more water in. The $800 billion stimulus package is one example. The worst part is that Obama really believes he has been steering well.
And of course, Obama just couldn't help but throwing in some class warfare:
"The problem is, is that our politics has gotten to the point where we can't have an honest conversation about the greatest income inequality since the 1920s, and we can't have an honest conversation about the irresponsibility that resulted in the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression, without somebody saying that somehow we're being divisive," Obama said. "No, we're being honest about what happened, and we've got to be honest about how we move forward."
Obama also said Americans shouldn't be satisfied with the current economic climate.
"We've gone through an incredibly difficult time in this country. And I would be surprised if the American people felt satisfied right now," Obama told CBS' Steve Kroft in an interview to air on "60 Minutes" on Sunday. "They shouldn't feel satisfied. We've got a lot more work to do in order to get this country and the economy moving in a way that benefits everybody, as opposed to just a few."
So there you have it voters, are you satisfied? Obama says you shouldn't be and with his latest approval at just 41 percent, it doesn't look like the American people have much confidence in the "captain" getting us out of this mess. Why? Obama still believes the government creates jobs, rather than the private sector and small businesses.
lol
Maybe he should get Karl Rove on board.
If Oh-Baw-Mah doesn’t control the weather, then why again the earlier (Cap-n-Tax) push re “climate change?”
Really? George Bush got blamed for Natural Disasters...
Isn’t the machine that controls all the hurricanes and other weather phenomema located in the basement of the White House?
And doesn’t he have the lease on the place for now?
Get downstairs and get to work. Or send Joe Biden to do it for you.
So now he’s blaming the weather—just as the Soviets blamed poor harvests on an 84-year-long drought that began in 1917.
that’s what I was thinking.. why doesn’t he just use George Bush’s weather machine? heck he could even get OBL which bush captured years ago to opperate it for him!
lol
The problem with the metaphor is that he forgot to name the ship he was the captain of: Titanic
“Isnt the machine that controls all the hurricanes and other weather phenomema located in the basement of the White House?”....
It is - you do remember when Karl Rove used it to steer Hurricane Katrina to New Orleans, with the sole purpose of drowning poor black people? Or, was it Dick Cheney who did it? Maybe both......
The reason Obama inherited a bad economy was because of the bad loans for mortgages. Not Bush’s fault! He asked Congress 14 (fourteen) times for oversight on Fannie and Freddy. Congress wouldn’t do it. And Fannie and Freddy (two Democrat programs) just kept on handing houses to people without any way to pay for them.
I thought he was digging us out of a ditch. Now we’re in a rocking boat? I can’t keep up with the bad metaphors.
But the earth was supposed to “heal and the “oceans...begin to rise.”
I can’t listen to him anymore. I guess we ditched the car in the ditch and now we are heading out to sea in a boat. Can someone please tell me again how smart this man is.
In short you lying, un-American, anti-American SOB... The current economic situation is 100% your fault. A leader, a real American leader that believed in liberty and freedom (ahem, that include economic liberty and freedom for you slower liberal lurkers out there) would have turned this economy around within two years, tops. That {expletive} hussein is still digging, we haven't seen the bottom yet.
....but I thought Obama said: “[T]his was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal,” ???
Gore: Bush to Blame for Katrina
Also one of the Kennedy's, I think it was Robert Kennedy, jr accused him of having created Katrina. The left also accused him of causing the 2004 Tsunami in the Indian Ocean. You don't have no idea how powerful President Bush was according to the lunatics on the left
On the ship of state, Obama isn’t on the bridge, he’s on the poop deck.
Basically exactly what you would expect from a NARCISSIST!
