BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK, Texas (AP) -- The bloody drug war in Mexico shows no sign of relenting. Neither do calls for tighter border security amid rising fears of spillover violence.
This hardly seems a time the U.S. would be willing to allow people to cross the border legally from Mexico without a customs officer in sight. But in this rugged, remote West Texas terrain where wading across the shallow Rio Grande undetected is all too easy, federal authorities are touting a proposal to open an unmanned port of entry as a security upgrade.
By the spring, kiosks could open up in Big Bend National Park allowing people from the tiny Mexican town of Boquillas del Carmen to scan their identity documents and talk to a customs officer in another location, at least 100 miles away.

I’m pretty sure that’s what we already have.
Why even have a border.
The DemocRATS’ internal polls must be looking pretty grim. Gotta get more illegals in here to help out with the vote in November.
Voters for Democrats. The Country is done
1. Gun-smuggling stings with no gun-tracking
2. Money-laundering stings with NO arrests
3. BP murdered on patrol, possibly by FBI informant
4. ICE officer murdered in Mexico
5. Innovative border checkpoints with NO guards
Conclusion: US authorities *ARE* major drug-dealers
Another step toward the NAU?
Pretty much
Better yet, I wonder how many have actually gotten across...
only 9 posts for a story like this?
There's lots of money in illegal drugs.
Who uses these drugs?
Which groups on the political spectrum are well-known users of illegal drugs?
Which groups on the political spectrum are well-known advocates of legalizing illegal drugs?
Strange. I noticed some posts were deleted, including mine. Didn’t say anything offensive.
They would have to be one tough hombre to cross the border at Big Bend and hike across the park to civilization.
What did you say???
I have walked across the border to Boquillas. There is nothing there except a few adobe huts and some burros. The river is very shallow. No bridge. Boquillas is a dusty little nothing town. I am not even sure you can access it from Mexico. It is at the bottom of Buquillas Canyon, on the Mexican side.

One of the few places that is actually in the middle of nowhere and quite beautiful and very rugged.
All this border crossing will do is to legitimize the border crossing for those who have the credentials to cross the border.
All of those who do not have the credentials will continue to walk across just like you have and I have.
Turn the border over to U.S. Citizen militias and give them a green light. Done.
The Fed Gov is too busy crapping in it’s pants and sitting in it, to be of any use.
