I get a kick out of trying to open the thread titled “Service Temporarily Unavailable”, and getting the response that the service is temporarily unavailable.
I’m such a simple guy...
Someone didn’t feed the hamsters. Must have been ... Wait ... be right back. Gonna try to be those monsters. Ah... well that worked. They’re meat eaters. Bye.
It is SUNDAY! Just hit refresh a couple of times and you are good to go.
My kids kept telling me my old HP was a peice of junk because it took forever to change links. So I went out and bought a new one and then I find out it was FreeRepublics fault all along.
Carry on.
Like most of the rest of us............
Good days and bad. They come and go but we are still on top of the grass rather than 6’ under. So enjoy this Lord’s day.
Probably a DDOS attack from our enemies. Perhaps JimRob is limiting the number of connections available so everything doesn’t hang.
Hey! What happened to my funny comment I posted?
FWIW, if you are posting a reply and you see Service Unavailable instantly, it didn’t go through, and you can try again.
If it delays a while and then says Service Unavailable, it means that your post went through but you didn’t get the next step of accessing the thread.
So, go back to Post, save your message in case it isn’t there for some reason, get back in the thread again, and you should see your message there, if there was a delay.
That way, you don’t add to all this multiple posting.

And hitting "retry" multiple times adds to the load, so once it starts it gets much, much worse as people hit "retry."
This was not the case years ago on Free Republic. The population may have grown with over crowded Free Republic, but I am worried about a possible cyber attack. Months ago, Apache Killer tool was distributed to apply heavy traffic on sites, which forced a patch to be provided soon afterward. Alexa is not enough to analyze traffic of Free Republic, and hope there is some other sites that will allow to analyze traffic data to detect possible cyber attack. Free Republic is sure an enemy of the leftists, including China, which they are willing to destroy this site.

Sunday maintainance.
I think JohnRob wants to fine tune and update the servers on the slowest day of the week so there no crashes when its busy.
A minor inconvenience Freepers can accept!
