Volt Named 2011’s Collectible Car of Future Years from now General Motors Co.’s Chevrolet Volt extended-range hybrid sedan will be the most desirable North American-made model from the 2011 model year, according to the Friends of the National Automotive History Collection in Detroit.

The group names a future collectible each year. Past winners, which have all been domestic brand cars, include the Chevy Camaro (2010), Ford Flex (2009), Dodge Challenger (2008), Dodge Viper SRT10 (2007), Pontiac Solstice (2006), Ford Mustang (2005) and Chrysler 300 (2004). The honor was first bestowed on the Buick Riviera and Oldsmobile Aurora in 1995.

The NAHC calls itself the world’s largest public archive of automotive books, manuals, photos and historic documents.

A buddy of mine owned a ‘66 Corvair Corsa with the 180 horse turbo engine.
That thing would fly !

The Volt is the collectible car of the year?

Well, I kept my gallstone, but I surely don't want another.

All these pro-Volt stories have a certain Soviet flavor to them.

Yes, the Soviets used to announce a bold and rosy 5 year plan, for crops. They did it every 5 years and then at the end of the 5 year period, would announce that it failed due to bad weather patterns all over the Soviet Union. Then they would announce a brand new 5 year plan, this one sure to succeed.

Volt will simply say it failed due to global warming.

It's here I sit and rust amid this ruin and rancor like tire irons
Toothy grills and car parts before me...
the acid rain floods my Floorboard,
burns my pores, and rots my upholstery..
once I was Worshipped, polished magnificently,
now I lay in decay by the dirty Angry bay...

I'm ready to leave
I wanna get out of here
I'm ready to ride away
I don't want to die in here
I'm ready to ride

Mmy skin is metallic now, no longer an elegant powder blue...
my body Unhinged and sleeping in the jungle of motor block manifolds and metal Relics...
what was deluxe becomes debris, I never questioned loyalty,
But this dead end demolishes the dream of an open highway...

I'm ready to leave
I wanna get out of here
I'm ready to ride away
I don't want to die in here
I'm ready to ride

Dig me...but don't...bury me

An antique cars collectability is usually directly related to it’s popularity when new. The Volt ain’t popular now & never will be a real collectible.
There will never be one in my garage.
By the way,the Corvair was not as bad as Nader made it out to be. They have a large following & are collectible at low prices.
This from a Ford guy. I should have my mouth washed with soap for saying that.

I’ve got an idea: let’s retire Obama and give him a Volt as a going away present.

I'll buy any Beanie Baby for 5 cents each, postpaid.

But the point I was trying to make is that Beanie Babies are plentiful because people actually wanted them, while Volts are scarce because nobody ever wanted one.

Volt = Edsel

That's a low blow -- totally uncalled for.

The 1957 Edsel was a thing of beauty (and, yes, I really think that).

Only if it doesn’t burst into flames before hand.

My cousin had one back about ‘75.
He put it threw a fence and we ended up using it for target practise with our .22’s. I think it still sets down in the pasture on the farm!
