The cowardly brave stand against Trump
Legal Insurrection ^ | 12/9/11 | William Jacobson

Posted on 12/09/2011 9:04:52 AM PST by Lakeshark

Rick Santorum was right about the rank hypocrisy of GOP candidates who seek Donald Trump’s endorsement but will not appear at the NewsMax debate because Trump is the moderator:

“Many of my opponents jockeyed to be the first to fly up to New York and use Donald Trump for a photo op and no doubt try and secure an endorsement. But when Donald wants to moderate a debate – they refuse to attend. That’s what’s so wrong with politics today – hypocrisy,”

Andrew Breitbart makes an even more important point. The boycotting candidates do not hesitate to go on MSNBC, and I’ll add to that, Letterman and The View, which day in and day out mock conservatives.
**snip**
While the decision to boycott the NewsMax debate was couched as a brave stand against a “reality show” atmosphere, what it really reflected was fear of being criticized for appearing with Trump by the folks at MSNBC and The View.

The entire mainstream media is a reality show intended to make Republican candidates look bad, and any candidate who has not figured that out yet hasn’t figured anything out.

Romney refusing to do a one-on-one with Newt does not speak well for him. He was offered the same opportunity as Newt and Cain took and declined. Romney is too cautious.

I'm not particularly a Trump fan, other than he trail blazed the way to win the nomination, which was to attack Obama.

Rush just spoke about Trump, saying he would never run on a third party in spite of his bombast and threats.

He did say, it's Ron Paul who may do that.

Whatever, it's his opinion, but I doubt Trump would do that, in spite of his bluster. Ron Paul? He would do that in a heartbeat.

You just keep drinking that Perry Koolaid Dan, the rest of us know better.

I suppose if anyone knows about backing the wrong guy it would be you but I'll stick with the most successful and conservative Governor in the nation, Rick Perry.

“Trump is still threatening to run as an independent. Only an idiot would agree to a debate moderated by a potential thrid party candidate.”

As opposed to? It’s a safer bet that Blitzer, the girls on The View, Letterman, et al will spend every broadcast minute trashing the eventual GOP nominee (whoever it may be) than it is that The Donald will launch a 3rd party campaign.

Thanks for this post...

GOP has 20+ debates for free exposure, some debates on almost never watched networks. They land Trump “grandiose” as he is, however the exposure is big time compared to most of the debates, and as the article points out these so called wanna-be presidents can’t figure out that they need to show-up. Excuses don’t get votes, or the necessary exposure. Like it or not Trump represents the business world, the American tradition of pulling one self up by his boot straps and making it in the world. American freedom & exceptionalism is what this debate should center around, which is only possible by a GOP candidate that embraces this countries founding principals and is NOT possible by any progressive/liberal/socialist ideals Obama embraces.

GOP Reince Priebus is now bagging on the Trump debate, which really points to a lack of strategic thinking in favor of PC points with a liberal media.

A prime opportunity to lessen the grip of the lame stream media on the message to voters and the COWARDS put their tailS between their legs and run. For sure this would have helped to set the stage for having real debates with Obama later on. DUMB, DUMB, DUMB.

I hate to agree. But if this keeps on like this no one will want to be associated with Repubs, Conserves etc. Although their was a time in history when we all thought Nixon had destroyed us and then Reagan came riding in on his white horse.

Some have actual schedules and don’t have time to do more debates. It’s kind of absurd for Trump to think he can call for a debate a week before the Iowa Caucus, and expect all the candidates to jump for him.

And now we see why it was good to NOT attend — two poor folks actually said they’d do it, and now Trump is going to cancel because not enough candidates kissed his ring. So the two don’t get to debate, and look like shmucks for trusting Trump to be good for his word.

I can't believe so many of our candidates won't do this, but they'll put themselves up as targets for liberal moderators

Well, they have a large cluster of supporters around here who's excuses are equally pathetic.

Indeed. Nothing "dignified" about a line up of idiots on parade dancing to the tune of some liberal media weenie. Newt wouldn't dance -- that is one reason he has gotten a bandwagon rolling and all the others are dead in the water.

“Right Rick. That’s what most PA Republicans said when you threw over Toomey ..”

Mark Levin likes Santorum a lot, and said it’s up to voters if they want to forgive Santorum for that, and maybe they will, if they see Santorum’s reasoning:

‘The Truth Regarding Santorum’s Endorsement of Arlen Specter

Posted on October 12, 2011 by Admin

“The reason I endorsed Arlen Specter is because we were going to have two Supreme Court nominees coming up,” said Santorum. “I got a commitment from Arlen Specter that no matter who George W. Bush would nominate, he would support that nominee.”

The former senator didn’t win over everyone with that, and bristled a bit at the end of his answer. “You questioned my judgment, and you have every right to do so. But please don’t question my intention to do what’s right for those little babies.”

I would reiterate that sentiment. You may think the decision was not a good one, but it was a decision made because Rick Santorum believed it was what he needed to do in order to ensure that judges who respect the right to life would not be impeded in their confirmation hearings. Apparently, this did not rankle Pat Toomey as much as it seems to rankle Santorum’s current poltical opponents considering that Toomey subsequently endorsed Rick Santorum in his bid for re-election. Meanwhile, Santorum’s record clearly and solidly indicates that he is a true believer in conservative principles across the board.’

I really don’t care what Mark Levin thinks. I’m not so weak minded that I need some radio guy to tell me what to think. I make my own judgements and arrive at my own decisions...and Rick Santorum has not right calling anyone a hypocrite.
