The cowardly brave stand against Trump
Legal Insurrection ^ | 12/9/11 | William Jacobson

Rick Santorum was right about the rank hypocrisy of GOP candidates who seek Donald Trump’s endorsement but will not appear at the NewsMax debate because Trump is the moderator:

“Many of my opponents jockeyed to be the first to fly up to New York and use Donald Trump for a photo op and no doubt try and secure an endorsement. But when Donald wants to moderate a debate – they refuse to attend. That’s what’s so wrong with politics today – hypocrisy,”

Andrew Breitbart makes an even more important point. The boycotting candidates do not hesitate to go on MSNBC, and I’ll add to that, Letterman and The View, which day in and day out mock conservatives.
**snip**
While the decision to boycott the NewsMax debate was couched as a brave stand against a “reality show” atmosphere, what it really reflected was fear of being criticized for appearing with Trump by the folks at MSNBC and The View.

The entire mainstream media is a reality show intended to make Republican candidates look bad, and any candidate who has not figured that out yet hasn’t figured anything out.

Everyone who doesn’t show looks chicken. This will cost Romney most as this is the time he should be getting in Newt’s face.

Trump and Newsmax are taking a step that needed to be taken: a debate sponsored by entities other than liberal, MSM hacks and Fox personalities who aren’t that much better.

Except that they're likely to cancel now that most candidates will boycott it.

That's sad because, apart from the toxic birther thing, Trump would very possibly have asked some of the critical questions we'd like to see addressed. And he'd have pressed for answers.

If Trump needed an excuse to run as an independent he has one now. No one wants to talk about China.

The fact that they’ll bark like trained seals for Wolf Blitzer but make excuses why Trump’s forum isn’t dignified just says they’re a bunch of chickens**ts.

IMO, Trump has an agenda. He wants to get the candidate settled soon, and the best way to do that is to narrow the field even more.

Trump would help eliminate some candidates (his choices, not ours).

Trump himself, over the last two days, has convinced me why they don’t want this debate.

If the candidate respectfully declines, the Donald trashes them in the media.

I believe that most of them are no shows because they would appear to be owned by Trump.

Of course Trump could have said he will not run, but since he hasn’t, I don’t blame them for declining.

I completely agree. This probably would have been a VERY GOOD debate forum. I’m sure that Trump would not have asked any gotcha questions, but would have asked insightful (not inciteful) questions on business, Fed regulations, the economy, etc. Would have been a way for the candidates to shine on what their proposals/advice would be on fixing the economy (and bringing up what Reagan did to stimulate it in the past).

I heard Trump on a spot played by Rush at the beginning of the program.

He was talking about how all the candidates, and particularly Bachmann had met with him asking for his endorsement. She apparently spoke with Trump for a couple of hours, and over and over again offered him the Vice President spot on her ticket if he would support her.

Veeeeery interesting problem for you isn't it?

:-)

Their excuses are pathetic because they are pathetic candidates.

I gather Sarah Palin suggested it would have been a great forum for all the candidates, as it would have brought a slice of the American public that wouldn't normally listen to these debates.

I thought she nailed it (as usual), the candidates blew it, and all so they wouldn't offend the RNC (romneybots), or the MSNBC/CNN crowd......

No, not really. She isn’t going to get the nomination anyway.

What is more interesting is that you don’t seem to mind Trump picking our candidate instead of the primary voters.

In otherwards, if Trump doesn’t like who we pick, well by God, he is going to throw the election to Obama. So essentially, he gets to pick or else.

You like that, do you? Well, since it is you and you have a problem with controlling your venom, you would probably vote for Trump out of spite. LOL

How would Trump pick our candidate?

How did you get that paranoid?

Who do you think Trump is going to pick, btw?

The founding generation acknowledged the "hand of Divine Providence" in the undertakings which determined whether this land would become a place of liberty.

An appeal to Divine Providence for enlightenment and guidance, in this time when most are inclined to look to government, certainly seems to be in order.

Newt blew it. His shameless sucking up to Donald “King of Crony Capitalists” Trump ended up backfiring on both Newt and the Donald. I wonder if Trump will show the same “loyalty” to Little Ricky Santorum, and give him a debate, or whether he will cut his loss and cancel. I predict that Little Ricky will be left out to dry.

He gets to pick the candidate. If he doesn’t like the person who wins the primaries, the person GOP voters pick, then he said he will run. That will split off votes. At this point in time, looks to be Newt that will win the primaries.

Keep in mind, that just because Trump talks nice about a person doesn’t really mean he likes them or won’t turn on them. He has a history wanting people to dance to his tune. He likes you until you quit sucking up to him.

I have no idea who Trump will pick.

I think what is being shoved to the background in any/all of these ‘debates’ is that there is not only positions but opinions/ideas also being needed and presented. It would be very good for the public to have the debaters give positions from which a core of needed actions could be developed and then have a consensus with which to take to the electorate. The public would then make a decision as to who best would carry out the consensus.
