The cowardly brave stand against Trump
Legal Insurrection ^ | 12/9/11 | William Jacobson

Posted on 12/09/2011 9:04:52 AM PST by Lakeshark

Rick Santorum was right about the rank hypocrisy of GOP candidates who seek Donald Trump’s endorsement but will not appear at the NewsMax debate because Trump is the moderator:

“Many of my opponents jockeyed to be the first to fly up to New York and use Donald Trump for a photo op and no doubt try and secure an endorsement. But when Donald wants to moderate a debate – they refuse to attend. That’s what’s so wrong with politics today – hypocrisy,”

Andrew Breitbart makes an even more important point. The boycotting candidates do not hesitate to go on MSNBC, and I’ll add to that, Letterman and The View, which day in and day out mock conservatives.
**snip**
While the decision to boycott the NewsMax debate was couched as a brave stand against a “reality show” atmosphere, what it really reflected was fear of being criticized for appearing with Trump by the folks at MSNBC and The View.

The entire mainstream media is a reality show intended to make Republican candidates look bad, and any candidate who has not figured that out yet hasn’t figured anything out.

I can't believe so many of our candidates won't do this, but they'll put themselves up as targets for liberal moderators.

Their excuses have been pathetic.

Maybe Ron Paul should host a debate and we’ll see who has the stones to attend. LOL

Don’t worry about it. Trump has newt on his new reality show, err debate, and newt can do all the debating by himself. He’s been on every side of every issue and has found a way to profit from most so he could argue with himself for 90 minutes with no trouble at all.

especially if you are down in the polls, your only solution is to get more media exposure.

Bachmann decided to go to late night talk show. How many of the urban hippie freaks watching the show will vote for her?

Trump debate gets attention and it is an opportunity for single-digit candidates. What is Bachmann’s alternative? Spending that day meeting 7 potential voters?

I think it is huge mistake not to attend.

Right Rick. That's what most PA Republicans said when you threw over Toomey for that piece of excrement, Specter.

Trump is still threatening to run as an independent. Only an idiot would agree to a debate moderated by a potential thrid party candidate.

How many of those liberal moderators have said they may run for president on a 3rd party and were using a 'debate' to possibly help promote such a run? This is apples and oranges. Dump Trump - skip the modern P.T. Barnum's phony 'debate'.

Sad commentary on the current Republican Party “establishment”!!! They might as well lock arms and march in step with Communist POTUS Obama!!! IMHO, a majority of both Liberal Democrats & RINO Republicans must be thrown out by the voters, come, November, 2012!!! If not, you can kiss this country goodbye!!!

Mr. Trump, do not let these “dirt bag” establishment types from both the Democrat &* Republican Party hold you back!!! No matter what they say or do, it is you that is doing the yeoman hard work of saving our country!!! They must all go into the political cesspool, starting with POTUS Obama, where they all. so rightfully, belong!!! And.....PS.....Add Karl Rove as number two on the list!!!

Trump and Newsmax are taking a step that needed to be taken: a debate sponsored by entities other than liberal, MSM hacks and Fox personalities who aren’t that much better. Other more conservative, non-MSM entities should follow suit in the future.

Those boycotting are making a mistake. Are they afraid Trump might ask questions they’d rather not have to answer? And Bachmann is especially making a mistake as she needs something that might give her a bump. Santorum will probably make some gains by participating.

Maybe, the less they have to debate Newt...the better they feel? and it would be very close to the Iowa vote. Of course they wanted Trump’s endorsement but the “no shows” won’t get it now.
LOOKING very forward to tomorrow night’s debate.

Boycott Trump, because having debates run by the Obama-loving MSNBC and CNN, makes so much more sense. /s

skip the modern P.T. Barnum's phony 'debate'.

If that would have happened consistently, there would not have been any debates this year.

How do we know many of them already had full schedules. I wouldn’t do it either especially 2 days after Christmas.

Nothing wrong with profit or debating with ur self if ur intelligent enough to do it. Most of our candidates can’t walk and chew bubble gum at the same time.

Newt can do all the debating by himself

So here are our choices, We can choose either the corrupt incoherent crony capitalist, the plastic phoney corrupt crony capitalist, the whiner in chief, the uber mom, the crazy uncle or Newt.

Not really much of a choice.

Me too. It’s not every day you can get a chance to schmooze with a pop-culture icon who wears a weasel as a hair peice and is likely to hammer you with birther questions.

The only coward is Trump himself that didn’t have the guts to stand up to the unrelenting and massive attacks leveled at all of the GOP Candidates.

If I remember correctly this all got started when Sarah (on a tour) stopped by to see Trump.

Nothing more nothing less.

In fact Trump jumped on the chance (being a showman) to promote himself for a few more months. BTW did Trump ever release his findings on the Obasma BC investigation?

To me Romney made the biggest mistake of his campaign by first not debating Newt toe to toe and now not showing up for the Trump debate. Newt is good, but I think Romney could draw or come close. This would devalue notion that only Newt can debate Obama. With the Trump debate, he could have gained some "TEA Cred". But the word came down from the GOP not to attend and Mitt was a good boy and obeyed.

The pundits are opining that Newt's lack of focus could hurt him in the general election, but is that any worse that Mitt's play it safe and win the because it's your turn and everyone wants Obama out?
