RUSH: This is Will in Amanda, Ohio, as we stay on the phones. Hi, Will. Welcome to the program.
CALLER: Hey, Rush? Hey, Rush, at best you don't understand the Tea Party movement, and at worst you're trying to co-opt the Tea Party -- and I hate to say that because I've listened to you for a lot of years -- but the Tea Party movement is about trust, justice, and constitutional leadership; and Newt Gingrich is the RINO's RINO. He's taken several hills from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, he plays both sides of the aisle, he's well known for his progressivism. If his multiple wives don't trust him, don't expect me to trust him as a president for this country. The Tea Party's not about Republican[s] and Democrats. The Tea Party is about, like I said -- trust, justice, and constitutional leadership -- and at this point we're down to three candidates, in my opinion. We got Ron Paul, Michele Bachmann, and Rick Santorum -- and I'm leaning towards Ron Paul because at least in Congress, for all his years, both sides call him Dr. No because he'll at least stick to the Constitution, what it requires.
RUSH: Right.
CALLER: And we've gotten into this mess, Rush, because we've always chosen the worst of the two choices. And this is probably our last chance. This country is going down fast.
RUSH: Are you telling me ... that the Tea Party ... is gonna end up rallying around Ron Paul?
CALLER: One of the three. I think in the end, one of the three.
RUSH: Where is that reflected in the...?
CALLER: (crosstalk) chance for Iowa, and I hope he wins because --
RUSH: Where is it reflected....?
CALLER: -- if he does I think you're gonna see people rally to him.
RUSH: Where is it reflected in the polling data?
CALLER: (silence) Well... Right now he's running second from what I understand in Iowa.
RUSH: He's probably gonna win Iowa. I would be surprised if Ron Paul wins Iowa, by the way.
CALLER: I think you're gonna see people break away from this two party madness. That's how we got in this position, Rush.
RUSH: Well, we'll see, we'll see. But you misunderstand where I am in all this. But that's okay. That's okay. I am shaken, but not stirred.
BREAK TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: All right, once again, let me bring some reason and sanity to all this. We just heard that the Tea Party is gonna support Ron Paul, Santorum, Bachmann, or bust. And this guy is not a Tea Party caller. This guy's a Ron Paul caller. I just went to the Gallup poll, dug deep inside the Gallup poll, the one I just told you that shows Gingrich over Romney 37-22. Ron Paul is at 7% among Tea Party supporters. But there's more than that. The Tea Party is not the Ron Paul campaign. Ron Paul has nothing to do with the Tea Party, zilch, zero, nada. There is no way that you can back Ron Paul and also back Bachmann and Santorum. The reason is that Ron Paul's foreign policy has nothing in common with Tea Party foreign policy, nothing in common with Bachmann or Santorum foreign policy. Ron Paul did not start the Tea Party. Ron Paul is not the Tea Party.
Now, that caller also said -- and all this is so predictable, it happens every four years. "That two-party system, two party madness, we're not gonna put up with anymore, Rush, and you're part of it. You're part of the two party establishment, we know you." Let me tell you something. If two party madness is the issue, why did Ron Paul leave the Libertarian party to run as a Republican? Ron Paul's not running as a third party; he's not running as a Libertarian; he's running as a Republican. He's involved himself in the two-party system. And Ron Paul has led the way with tens of millions of dollars in earmarks. Ron Paul blames America for 9/11. That's not what the Tea Party thinks. It's not what conservatives think.
Now, there's some Tea Party activists that support Ron Paul, but most don't, as is evidenced by the Gallup polls at 7%. But Ron Paul's foreign policy, there's nobody, no other Republican running on that nomination dais up there in any of these debates that has a foreign policy that's anywhere near Ron Paul's. Bachmann, Santorum, Gingrich, Romney, none of them blame the United States for Iran nuking up. None of them blame the United States for 9/11. I love the way these Ron Paul supporters try to tell us who is or who isn't conservative, when Paul is a Libertarian. Ron Paul's a Libertarian, used to belong to that party but knows he can't win as a Libertarian so he comes over and joins the Republican Party. He says he could relate to and understand the Occupiers. The Tea Party doesn't think that.
"Boy, Rush, now you've really done it. Now you've run around and attacked Ron Paul." I didn't attack Ron Paul. I'm simply telling you what is. There's a big difference here. I was the one who was attacked. My callers are gunning for me today, folks. I am a shaken host here. Not stirred, but shaken. Hanging tough. But none of the GOP, apart from Ron Paul, blames Wall Street for the recession. Ron Paul does. Where is this common ground between Ron Paul and Rick Santorum and Bachmann? Have you seen Santorum's face when Ron Paul's describing his foreign policy? Santorum's waving his arms trying to get in there and respond to it. Who's next? I can't believe what Snerdley is finding out there today.
And Limbaugh was right about Paul.
I consider myself a Tea Party guy. I am sorry to all the Paulbots but I would have real trouble pulling the lever for Ron Paul in the election, In the primaries you do what you gotta do and vote your heart. When the election time comes you gotta ask yourself. Self righteous stand or your country.
Paul is the Kucinich for the Republican Party. Period.
The Tea Party will do what it wants. Rush does not speak for them nobody does.
I still can’t get it why we allow the likes of Paul to run on the GOP ticket, why he comes to our debates, why even we give them the time of day, they’re not republican, nor are they certainly conservatives, hell they’re more liberal on some social and foreign issues then most Dems.
Paul needs to run on the libertarian ticket and stop using the republican platform for some of his insane way out there views.
If Wrong Paul is the Tea Party, I guess I don’t belong to the Tea Party!
Rush has been red hot, especially yesterday, and today. He is taking it to the RINO establishment, who are stoking the fire against debate venues anywhere but in the snakepit with liberal panelists who hate our candidates, and us, and who want us to lose.
Today he has to lay out the Paul bot caller on the phone who dares to lecture Rush, and us listeners, on Tea Party principles, never bothering to mention that being suicidal is not a Tea Party principle. Paul’s foreign policy against Israel kills his candidacy from the get-go, and he has no interest in distinguishing the differences between an act of war and a criminal act.
I totally agree. Paul is a waste of valuable time.
I agree that Ron Paul ain’t the Tea Party.
Equally, Rush Limbaugh ain’t the Tea Party either.
And neither does Paul or his paulbots.
Everyone at the debates standing on the stage behind a podium is wasting valuable time.
Ron Paul has some valid positions, but also some extreme ones, especially on foreign policy,
I could not support him and I don’t think he has a chance to get the Republican nomination.
I have major concerns about Newt that he is a big government politician, not a principled conservative. We can do better.
Limbaugh either didn’t get it, or intentionally misunderstood it.
The caller said, “That two-party system, two party madness...”
Rush may be forgiven for misunderstanding, because it would likely be the common misunderstanding.
The caller was not talking about a third party candidacy.
He was talking about how, once in office, America seems to be stuck with a choice between a Democrat and a RINO Republican. A choice between radical liberal and just liberal is NOT A CHOICE.
What the caller wants is a Republican candidate who is NOT a liberal. Who won’t be like Romney or Gingrich and cement Obamacare so that we, America, are stuck with that disaster. Who won’t create a Cap & Trade nightmare to appease pseudo-scientists. Who won’t continue the process of destroying our nation.
Even Reagan did not do what conservatives wanted, to actually CUT the budget. He just slowed the rate of growth. But actually CUT the budget. He even called himself a “Roosevelt Democrat”, as if that was a good thing.
We want a president who will CUT the size and power of the federal government. Not to “move on”, accepting what the Democrat radicals have done as something unchangeable and eternal. BUT END IT.
To paraphrase Reagan, “MR. REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE, TEAR DOWN THIS MONSTROUS AND BLOATED GOVERNMENT!”
America DOES NOT WANT Obamacare. America DOES NOT WANT an immense and spendthrift federal government. America DOES NOT WANT politicians, Democrat *or* Republican, who simply ignore this message.
The Tea Party and America itself are yelling at the top of our lungs: “CUT IT OUT!” But they are deaf and blind.
Romney ignores us. Gingrich ignores us. They all have the magnificent temples they want built to their legacy in their minds.
“If I become president, I will spend more, build more, make huge and giant government edifices in my honor! Always more, more, MORE!”
“I will federalize MORE state lands! I will spend vast amounts on whatever! I will not cut back anything one iota! I will spend TRILLIONS, QUADRILLIONS of dollars!!!”
Please, enough with the liberal egomania. Can’t we have a president, after all these years, who agrees that America only needs our military in a dozen places around the world, not 100 different nations, as it is today.
A president who accepts that often when foreigners war with each other, it is not up to us to say that they shouldn’t.
A president who uses tax cuts to move people accepting government largess off of government largess? It doesn’t have to hurt anyone, but government should not be giving them money. Because it is not the job of government to give people money.
A president who will actually give state lands taken by the federal government back to their rightful owners, the states. Not put the majority of states off limits to the people who live there, for no reason at all, except to deny it to them.
A president who will lay off a hundred thousand or more federal employees, cancel a hundred thousand frivolous and unconstitutional government regulations, and make taxes fair and simple enough for a person with a high school diploma to fill out.
This is what America deserves. Not “That two-party system, two party madness...”
“He is taking it to the RINO establishment,”
A pleasant surprise after all the years he spent playing waterboy to them.
When did Rush ever claim to speak for the Tea party?
Equally, when did Rush claim to be the Tea Party?
Now that kook and his cult are trying to pollute the Tea Party like they pollute the GOP primary process. Ron Paul is NOT Tea Party, NOT conservative, and NOT GOP.
And our foreign policy is an utter disaster.
