Newt spoke to a standing room only crowd of over 400 people last night at the Polk County GOP dinner in Johnston, Iowa. According to Kevin Hall from The Iowa Republican, Newt hit a homerun with the capacity crowd. Because of Newt's solutions-oriented campaign and optimistic vision for America, Hall notes that "Republicans are flocking to Gingrich in droves."

I have no desire to bash Gingrich or any other Republican, and a two-headed rattlesnake would be better than Obama. Nevertheless, the idea of a “solutions-oriented campaign” is disconcerting. I don’t want the damn federal government trying to provide “solutions.” I want it out of the way.

I’ll vote for the Republican nominee and thank God for the opportunity to do so; but right now Romney and Gingrich look like two big-government peas in a pod, and the rest of the field (except maybe Huntsman) looks like an audition for the Keystone Cops.

By the way, why shouldn’t I support Huntsman?

It sounds like the same kind of campaign Ronald Reagan ran in 1980.

The difference is that Reagan meant it, while Newt doesn't.

IMHO Newt has two problem:

1. Pride, which as we know cometh before the fall
2. He wants to be liked by the enemy. It seems like a common problem once a Conservative and/or Republican lands in the Beltway.

Geez, this is from Newt's website.

My better half just told me Newt and Obama are both narcissists, but with Obama at least you get someone who is incompetent but loyal to his wife.

Newt will dwarf Obama, and it is a contest I'd love to see. He has cred as a conservative radical.

Romney will be a me too candidate... so if you want status quo vote Mitt.... Mitt is more like Bush. Romeny is still much better than Obama

I guess “Trust, but verify” doesn’t have any meaning anymore.

“The difference is that Reagan meant it, while Newt doesn’t.”

I’m old enough, and my memory is still good enough, to remember how Reagan was called a RINO, a sellout, Regan’s puppet, yada, yada, yada, by CONSERVATIVES.

Are we so caught up in whatever the media meme happens to be, that we’ve forgotten what we saw, with our own eyes?

of Reagan and Thatcher,

Actually President Newt would be much more like either of the Bush's then Reagan or Thatcher.

Like most with a legislative background, Newt confuses "getting things done" with leadership.

The moment he is elected Newt will rush to "reach across the aisle" just like he did as Speaker.

And when that happens, all the Newt cultists around here will magically forget they ever supported him

I’m aware of Newt’s flaws, but I like his cockiness in reference to Obama and the media. He’s not going to do a John McCain and chastise his own supporters for being afraid of an Obama presidency. I like that he’s acting like he’s going to win this. I like that he’s going to follow Obama around and respond to every speech he makes.

Not too impressed with your predictions so far, I will pass on this one.

You may be right about Molinari. I like Newt and would love to see him win. But what I see right now is that virtually no one who worked with Newt in the past is coming forward to endorse him or even say mildly positive things about Newt. I wonder why.

*Snort* Conservative radical! Bwahahahahaha!!!!

Maybe inside the beltway, where anyone to the right of Jimmy Carter is considered a right-wing fanatic.

What we need is Newt’s oratorical skills mixed with Sarah Palin’s outsider status/true conservative principles and added to the Herman Cain pre-scandal likability quotient.
Barring this, the Republican Party is going into this year’s election with a [fairly] flawed candidate—which, I believe can still beat Obama. Having said this, I believe Newt is the better of the 2 [fairly] flawed candidates currently on top of the Republican slate.

but with Obama at least you get someone who is ...loyal to his wife.

You have no idea whether Obama is loyal to his wife. Have you seen his "personal trainer?" This is not a good place to come around spouting stuff you don't know to make points that are fictitious.

The VP pick this year is going to be crucial. Wish we had an idea of who he’s leaning towards.
