While most Americans are lucky to get a few weeks of holiday every year, it seems the countrys leader gets a little more freedom in the matter.
President Barack Obama has announced his Christmas vacation to Hawaii for a staggering 17-day trip.
Obama, who visited the island just two weeks ago for an economic summit, will head to Honolulu on Saturday December 17 until Monday January 2.
The president, who was raised in Hawaii until he was six, will be joined by his wife Michelle and their daughters, Malia, 13, and Sasha, 10.
The White House travel office announced the president has no public events scheduled for the trip.
The President's family covers the cost of a private beach front residence in Kailua, Oahu, for their vacation - a Winter White House that costs up to $3,500 a day, or $75,000 a month.
But the local and federal taxpayers help pay the bill for travel and security.

Put deck shoes, white pants, a red shirt and a white sailor’s cap on him and you have Gilligan. Our President is Gilligan.
Rename Air Force 1 The Minnow.
They really do have to be careful on the timing of Obama's announcemnts.
Great campaign ad(s); and include all 'dictums' before he left per all other vacations, as well. Obama is a man on the move. . .if only to best golf courses. . .and best food; especially if Michelle, on leave as well.
Speaking of campaign ads. . .so much material in Obama's own words; but am sure Repubs will NOT be using the best of it.
Actually, those long August stays by Bush at his ranch (like Reagan’s vacations at his ranch in CA) were referred to as trips to the “Summer White House.” Bush continued to hold meetings with Cabinet members and the press and even meet with foreign dignitaries, but it was simply that he did it outside of DC for 30 days. Naturally, there was also a bit of the horseback riding and woodcutting and attempts to do something non-DC like, but in general, Bush and Reagan still continued to work on state business.
I think Carter used to go back to Plains for awhile every year. Clinton, IIRC, used to go to Camp David for extended stays, although I don’t remember that he had a place in Arkansas or ever went back to his home state for very long.
To my knowledge, the only president who has gone for what are flat-out extended vacations at expensive rented places that are not even in his home state is one Barry Obama.
If he went back to his mansion in Chicago for a couple of weeks, that would be fine. But this jet-set lifestyle is pretty unbecoming for a US president.
The only upside is that he’s usually too busy having fun to issue any executive orders.
His Secret Service Agents get to spend 17 days away from their familys at Christmas.
What an ass.
I believe Bush used to stay at his ranch and Camp David on his vacations because both places required a minimum amount of S.S. agents. He wanted as many as possible to be spend time with their families.
It a working vacation, hell be hunting for his birth certificate.
I agree with golux on the “when will we be able to ever take another 2 week vacation?”.
The Looter-in-Chief is just like his constituency who expect or even demand handouts for luxuries they haven’t worked for.
“Let them eat cake.”
Laser-like focus on golf and the beach.
Baraq is a born loser.
It can’t be a Christmas vacation. It must be a holiday vacation. Unacceptable title by the POTUS.

I agree with you. I also know that Bush worked while at the ranch. I was just pointing out that the media always made it seem like he was on vacation.
THE HEFTY HOLIDAY BILL
Last year the Obama’s Christmas trip to Hawaii cost more than $1 million.
He covered the cost of his family’s accommodation, but the rest was covered by the taxpayers.
The bill to house Secret Service agents and Navy Seals in beach front accommodation stretched to $16,80.
A further hotel bill of $134,400 covered 24 White House staff staying in the Moana Hotel at a rate of $400 a day.
The estimate, by the Hawaii Reporter, also included $250,000 for local police overtime, $1 million for the president’s own round trip flight to Hawaii on Air Force One, and $10,000 for a local ambulance to accompany the presidential motorcade.

No more hanging out at the Blue Heron estate....so sad/sarc
I think this article (and the articles about the crappy economy in the sidebars) speak for themselves.
ANOTHER vacation??????????
how many is it do far this year alone????????????
May it be his last. Hope he stays.
Agreed! Don’t come back! Stay there! Play golf! Leave the rest of us the frick alone! I think it’s money well spent!
Wrong phrase. It’s “let them eat peas!”
