Prepare for riots in euro collapse, Foreign Office warns
The Telegraph ^ | 27 Nov 2011 | James Kirkup

British embassies in the eurozone have been told to draw up plans to help British expats through the collapse of the single currency, amid new fears for Italy and Spain. As the Italian government struggled to borrow and Spain considered seeking an international bail-out, British ministers privately warned that the break-up of the euro, once almost unthinkable, is now increasingly plausible.

Diplomats are preparing to help Britons abroad through a banking collapse and even riots arising from the debt crisis.

The Treasury confirmed earlier this month that contingency planning for a collapse is now under way.

A senior minister has now revealed the extent of the Government’s concern, saying that Britain is now planning on the basis that a euro collapse is now just a matter of time.

“It’s in our interests that they keep playing for time because that gives us more time to prepare,” the minister told the Daily Telegraph. Recent Foreign and Commonwealth Office instructions to embassies and consulates request contingency planning for extreme scenarios including rioting and social unrest.

Greece has seen several outbreaks of civil disorder as its government struggles with its huge debts. British officials think similar scenes cannot be ruled out in other nations if the euro collapses.

Diplomats have also been told to prepare to help tens of thousands of British citizens in eurozone countries with the consequences of a financial collapse that would leave them unable to access bank accounts or even withdraw cash.

Personally, I am well armed and a real good shot.

I finally broke down and purchased a Beretta Px4 Storm from Airgun Depot. A Gunny on YouTube made the recommendation for an economical method to keep in practice. I like it and provides a much cheaper way to stay sharp. Both my wife and daughter were immediately attracted to (just got to stop the Daughter from playing gangsta shooting) it. Just something to look at.

I agree on the precious metals. Been prepping for almost 13 years. I know people are being myopic on their preps. There will ultimately be a new new in the long run. This brings me to another point on preps. If there is going to be a new new, then preps should also include some charitable considerations.

I know I'm preaching to the choir, however the majority of people are completely blind to what is coming. Smart people. Decent people. I live in a rural area so once I take care of the extended family it may be much easier to take care of my neighbors and then some. I know I could not turn away hungry people or children. I have thought through many scenarios. I guess just as easily I could also end a threat.

Just something to share. There will be a new new. Preparing means not sinking to the primal depths of places like Stalingrad, Warsaw and North Korea. I firmly believe this is what extended and in depth prepping is all about.

Thanks for letting me share.

Beans are stored upstairs. I have about 100 lbs.

I should move them into the SHTF room in a bucket with oxygen absorbers.

I really like my Big Berkey water purifier. It makes great water, saving money and hauling gallons of water from the store. I would recommend a Big Berkey water purifier to anyone. I have the regular filters and the ones that really micro filter the water. They last a long time.

What would happen if the world had a jubilee of sorts with a great forgiveness of debt. The people that would lose were the ones who much was owed to. They, though, might fall also if something isn't done. Maybe a half forgiveness of all debt would help.

“As in, can you load more value in canned food, crates of ammo, or gold-— in a Cessna?”

Understand your point but the average Cessna doesn’t have enough weight capacity to make much difference.

Which is heavier 500lbs of gold or 500lbs of ammo?

The riots will last as long as there is still stuff for the rioters to loot. After that, all the rioting in the world won’t get the animals free stuff from the government any more. Then they’ll have to go home and try to figure out what to do next. The end.

Uh,that’s when the rioters turn into roving bands, spreading out into the suburbs and countryside looking for more to loot....

"I love that room."

"I just stand in the doorway and look at it."

I know the feeling.

Now, because I'm so close to the bay/gulf and in hurricane alley, I've packaged most of my 'goodies' to survive a category 4-5 hurricane...a collapse of the house & shed will not leave me without supplies. They will survive somewhere in/under the rubble.

"Plant fruit trees - learn what grows wild and is edible in your area... "

There was a front-page article in yesterdays newspaper about a local guy who grows his own tobacco.

That's like having your own 'moonshine' still, eh?

"Learn how and when to use antibiotics and have it a lot."

Some of the fiction books on TEOTWAWKI say that the survivors will be the people with the antibiotics.

I've bought mine here for years without a prescription. If they're stored properly (cool-dry), they'll last up to fifteen years without degrading.

Which can buy you more property etc upon landing in safe territory?

500# of ammo, or 400# of ammo and 100# of gold?

How about in a backpack during E&E? 30# of ammo, or 20# of ammo and 10# of gold?

One man will just be another gun for hire in the new area. The other will be a rich man, ready to buy property etc.

I agree. There is readily predictable “fatal terrain” during the transition to the new-new.

“Smart professionals” who think they are in a great place in a downtown condo are maybe the stupidest folks I know.

Sarajevo is going to be a common pattern. A city condo tower without power is nothing but a death trap, surrounded by “sniper allies.”

The key to survival is location, and a little luck. With a mobility E&E plan in case your area becomes a battle ground in spite of your planning.

People that aren't readers of your books won't know what is E&E.

You might have something there - tobacco grows like a weed... and it would be in high demand under the right - well, ‘wrong’ circumstances...
