“Yes, finally a Republican candidate who is fair to immigrants 58%”
Oh, so the poll was about ‘immigrants’. That’s news. Here I thought it was about illegals. Silly me.
Actually, AZ and AL are proof of the success of exactly that procedure as both are experiencing self-deportation of illegals.
Right now they're mostly going to other states. There are states that would welcome them, but those states will IMO RAPIDLY turn red as they experience the violent crimes that DO happen and the crushing financial burden. Ultimately the citizens will revolt even in the goofiest of states. If not, they'll go broke as they deserve to.
As long as fedgov doesn't step in to "stimulate" or "bail out" the stupid states, ultimately the problem will be solved, and it was very clear that Cain did NOT intend to interfere with the states.
“I guess we can go a whole century before we come up with a plan. How about that? “
That would be JUST FINE with me, if it avoids AMNESTY.
Why the hell does EVERY DAMN PLAN have to legalize these bastards?
It’s INCREDIBLE that Newt is so out of touch with the Republican base that he would propose something THIS STUPID before winning the primary. An adviser to a dog catcher could have told him to wait until the general election before talking about screwing over the country.
Anyway, he did us a HUGE FAVOR and showed that he’d be no different than Bush-43 (maybe worse, actually) and certainly no different from Governor Perry.
Welcome to the Free Republic Circular Firing Squad.
Somewhere, Mittens is laughing his arse off!
Any idea of when California will reach that tipping point?
No, the rest won't be taken out because of too many 'flaws' - just those who are too far off the conservative reservation to be given serious consideration. And that includes Romney, who is by far, the very worst of the lot.
In reading your posts on this thread, you seem to be exhibiting a very high tolerance for RINO-like behavior on the part of our candidates. That says to me, that your standards are out of step with those of most mainstream conservatives, who are frankly fed up, and at the boiling point about state of our field.
You complain about "them" using our own litmus tests against us. Well, we'd better be applying a litmus test to these candidates, or we're going to wind up with a president who's no different than any other DC elitist.
If any candidate doesn't make the cut, screw 'em. Out they go. We can't afford to run another Dole, GHWB, McCain. Not this time.
Yeah, but there's an entire, uninformed nation out there. WE may not want Romney, but what do they know about him?
He's been holding steady at around 24%. The rest, once taken out, hit rock bottom.
IF Romney is ahead in the polls on election day, the uninformed will vote for him. They'll think we all want him, because the rest are "too flawed" and the polls say he's the best.
Anyone but Romney. So, in the mean time, hold on to that Newt card. We may need it.
People can be "herded" quite easily, Jim, If they're not paying attention. Most people aren't. They won't be paying attention until about a month or so before voting day. Image if they see Romney in the lead.
We've got to chose someone now. We don't have a lot of time to "push" the candidate we want. The Washington insiders are going to push Romney on us as hard as they can.
(I'd like to know why the rest of the candidates haven't taken Romney out yet. It would be a piece of cake. He has a liberal record that could circle the globe!!!)
Remember all those advisers that left Newt for Perry then left Perry to go back to Newt. lol, they are a curse! First Perry gets hammered for being soft on illegals, then Newt makes the same mistake. Unbelievable that Newt after seeing the hell Perry caught would do the exact same thing! I’d love to be a fly on the wall at Newt H.Q. Bet they are in full blown panic mode over there and they should be. Newt hurt himself badly, totally self inflicted wound, can’t blame this one on dirty tricks Romney, Newt did it all by myself.
In a weird way, I’m rather glad Gingrich shot himself in the foot by revealing his rotten, pathway-to-amnesty notions on this issue. Mainly because it was becoming downright nauseating, trying to gauge how much I’d have to contort my views and values in order to justify supporting him if he were the nominee. His beltway/insider/lobbyist background totally rankled my Tea Party ideals, and his history of personal-life sleaze didn’t remotely comport to my standards for character and values. Now at least, with his lousy approach to illegals, I can just close the book on him for good.
BINGO!
And the border can still be crossed.
The children born here of illegal immigrants are American citizens and the birth rate of Americans of Latin ancestry is higher than that of Americans of European ancestry. Demographics are destiny. It makes sense to find a solution before another 50 yrs goes by and the decision is made for our grandchildren.
Amen.
Any Republican who doesn’t get it that we can’t have economic prosperity without securing our borders, has no business running for President.
I became an American citizen the hard way. And I’m thankful for the privilege to love and serve my adopted country!
I don’t think its fair those who wait patiently to come here and then wait some more years to become American citizens to have them witness illegals cut in front of the line.
Insisting on enforcing our laws is not a sign of our inhumanity. Its a sign of our decency and our concern for the well-being of our fellow Americans and lawful permanent residents.
We must have the guts to do what is right and not what is expedient. A nation is nothing without national habits and virtue. We abandon those at our peril.
“Those who have no regard for their ancestors, neither will they esteem their posterity.” We should take Edmund Burke’s warning to heart.
God Bless America!
“Never forget that a keen mind loves the intellectual challenge of arguing an unpopular position and may drop conservative principles and ideology for the thrill of complex arguments and acceptance by peers.”
Very well stated. I remember Rush making the same comment, but I cannot remember with regard to whom or what. But I remember the gist of the comment. Essentially, it was someone like Newt - real smart guy - who had this public debate, got his head handed to him, but was happy at the outcome because the debate was the fun part - whether anything good came of it didn’t matter. Only the verbal jousting mattered, and it was a lot of fun.
Hardly. The only aspect of illegal immigration worthy of concern is the part dealing with controlling our borders. It ties into both security and terrorism. And everyone is agreed that we should close the borders, so that’s not the concern folks have about “illegals”. For some folks it’s xenophobia, for others it’s hatred of Mexicans/Hispanics, and for others it’s “must follow the law”.
I sympathize with the latter group, if that’s what truly motivates them, but not with the other two.
In any case, the disposition of folks already here doesn’t bother me anything like the 60 million babies we’ve murdered since Roe v Wade or that we’re 15 trillion in debt with obligations of about 90 trillion.
What we do with some Mexicans running loose in the country taking payment under the table is simply not a big concern for me.

“...but there has to be a way to slam the door that is our porous border and start deporting at least those foreigners who are breaking laws.”
I guess what we have trouble understanding is why do we have to LEGALIZE huge numbers of Illegals to do either or both of the above?
What are we missing here?
Illegal immigration was once down pretty far on my list of priorities too, but that was before I became educated to the seriousness of the problem. It is a lawless third-world invasion against our society and our continuing freedom. We’ve made it attractive for them to come here. Jobs, business opportunities, criminal opportunities, education, healthcare, welfare, food stamps, social security, medicare, earned income tax credits, freedom, low risk if caught, etc, literally the land of milk and honey. Why wouldn’t they come? And after they (and their growing families) have lived here awhile, eventually amnesty, citizenship and the right to vote (for more big government, more welfare, more bennies). And that’s why the democrats, liberals and progressives of all stripes love them. Give enough illegal aliens the vote and we’ll never ever have another conservative elected.
