I’m calling BS.

The death penalty has nothing to do with moral authority. Can you honestly say there are any politicians who stand on moral high ground?

The death penalty is about protecting the women and children and everybody else.
That’s the bottom line.

People who have committed crimes that deserve death have proven they are animals, and have no regard for others.
Worse than that, they are INTELLIGENT animals who will go to any length to get what they want.

The move will be a blow to the US system of capital punishment.

LOL. This is Oregon, not the entire US. It is hard for others to understand our Republic.

The fact that we have 57 different places to find the most successful policies is a strength. Hence IMO this will not be a blow to the system but will provide results to buttress the arguments of those who favor capital punishment.

just sayin'...

Another loony left lib legend in his own mind. He’s a moral super power far better than normal folks who favor execution for murder.

Me neither. I used to correspond with an Oregonian, and according to him, they might as well secede and call themselves Libtardia.

“The move effectively halted the scheduled execution of convicted killer Gary Haugen, who had waived his appeals and was scheduled to die by lethal injection on Dec 6.

“It is time for Oregon to consider a different approach,” Mr Kitzhaber said in a statement. “I refuse to be a part of this compromised and inequitable system any longer; and I will not allow further executions while I am governor.””

I swore to uphold the laws of the state of Oregon, but only nice laws that I like, such as wrenching children from their homes at the slightest hint of neglect or abuse, or handing the reigns of government over to the unions.

Soon, the only people who are allowed to perform executions will be criminals.

just like allowing drug use in CA... yet another example of lefties deliberately ignoring laws they don’t like

why isn’t there a state that refuses to allow its citizens to pay into the federal tax system, since it’s a commie redistribution system with 60% of tax revenue being directly redistributed?

or a state not allowing abortion?

why can’t we have this?

Can’t we send them back to CA?

California, Oregon and Washington grow their own fruits, nuts and flakes. Have been since the 60s

This is no “blow” to the system. I can’t recall the last time the limp wristed leftist pansies in oregon executed anyone.

Use Heroin.

Its cheap and easy to find, just use confiscated heroin.

The prisoners would love it.

I’m not at all familiar with Oregon law, but it’s likely that a governor has the power under the law to cancel an execution.
Doesn’t mean he’s not a pinhead. As a governor of Oregon, that’s likely too!

blow to US capital punishment system

The US capital punishment system along with the US penal system in general was already blown. How can you tell whether a "system" is smart or dumb? The same way you can with a company: is it teachable and does it learn. By that definition, the US Penal System is a stupid system that hasn't learned the lessons it should have by now. We may be in the twenty-first century but the paradigm on how to effectively deal with criminals is centuries old.

Yup. That’s what I figured. Furriners never get it right.

It’s a nonsense article. If a state is so screwed up that it cannot tell right from wrong, like Illinois for example, then it shouldn’t have a death penalty. This is American Federalism at its best.

BTW effect is a noun, affect is a verb

Under the Tenth Amendment, states have the right to do smart things, and the right to do dumb things. This is better than having the Beltway in charge.
