WEBSTER GROVES, MO (KMOX) - A chain of three stores that sells survival food and gear reports a jump in sales to people who are getting prepared for the possible collapse of society.
We had to order fifty cases of the meals ready to eat to keep up with the demand in the past three months, said manager Steve Dorsey at Uncle Sams Safari Outfitters Inc. in Webster Groves. Thats not normal. Usually we sell 20 to 30 cases in a whole year.
Dorsey says business has been brisk since the spring uprisings in the middle east, as customers share concerns about political uprisings, the world economy and the future of the United States

It’s plausible.
Anonymous + Stuxnet clone = disaster that literally goes viral
There are two competing theories for the same time period, at the end of 2012. They are:
1. End of the world December, 2012 per Maya / Nostradamus whatever
2. Obama is reelected November, 2012 and is sworn in January 2013.
Not sure which is worse.
If you aren't already familiar with it you might like to take a look at the M1A.
Someone once phrased it here as ‘when the Entitlement Culture meets an Armed Citizenry’
I’ve not forgotten those descriptions. That is the scenario I envision. And you are right, it wont be pretty.
Not much of a choice. Death or Ru Ru.
Left this off my post “83 -

BTTT!
What?
The sun rotates once every 27 days (at the equator). Its impossible "face the same region" for years.
Did you hear that on "Coast to Coast"?
Sorry, that was supposed to be days, not years. That's what I get for typing in a hurry.
Sunspot 1356 is currently aimed at Earth and has produced a "beta-gamma" magnetic field, which could expel a large solar flare. The flare is now expected to be smaller than previously predicted. There is now a 30% chance of an M-class flare in the next 24 hours. This could cause radio disruption near the poles and produce a brilliant Northern Lights display. This is much smaller than the X-class mega-flare that was initially predicted. This region of the sun has produced many sunspots and large flares over the years, including multiple X-class monsters that are capable of causing blackouts and/or communication disruptions.
BTW, I get most of my info on solar activity from SpaceWeather.
Good thing we did. Food prices have been jumping! Now, if we have a tight week, we go into the reserves and restock the next chance we get.
At present, we could survive, independently, for 40 days of a zombie apocolypse and take out a small army at the same time. We've got in home entertainment, too; cards, chess, checkers, board games, lots of books.
Do I think it will be a zombie apocolypse magnitude? No; but look at the turmoil in Iceland when the kronos collapsed. SHTF moment right there, and things were ugly for a few weeks. Folks are still hurting, but there weren't any mass riots, etc.
I'm personally waiting for Tanzi's law to kick in and the onset of hyperinflation. We're already experiencing hidden inflation in the price of food and shrinking package sizes. Stuff I bought earlier in the year is almost twice the price now.
My closet full of food will feed my family when things get tougher...and they will get tougher, societal breakdown or not.
I might be wrong, but America has a history more of coming together than we do of killing each other wantonly. You don’t know until it really happens and usually the naysayers are wrong. There are problems, the government is useless, but the smart ones always survive and the secret of American success is that we are unafraid of really serious challenges. We always pull through. You’re being smart, I am being smart, and Americans are surely not as lazy and useless as so many cynics on here think.
Ok. They told me it was ready-—but their store is running, and has been so for several months.
I bet a lot of requests have been made about how to process beef, sheep, goats and even horses.
First thing that will happen is everyone will start hunting down dairy cows and racehorses to eat, and they will start eating seed corn.
I’m retired military. Never owned a personal weapon until five years ago. Stocking up on MREs, too.
I am a big fan of waltonfeed.com
$600 or so will get you a PALLET of food in 6 gal. buckets packaged to last at least 20 years. Get the stuff that is mylar bagged with oxygen absorbers for longest life. They sell organic grain, honey, etc. too.
The best and cheapest way to prep is to buy beans, rice, powdered milk, oats, barley, and other things that require only cooking. Add a quality pressure cooker and, later, a good grain mill to make flour, and you’re all set.
I don’t rotate the 20 year life food until it hits 20 years. I rotate the pantry foods.
A small closet can hold enough food to keep your family going for a year.
You need a pantry with canned goods, spices, etc. to complete the basic foods. I keep a supply of cooking oil in the spare fridge to prevent rancidity.
Thanks for your post. I’m not quite ready to go there yet. If it becomes apparent the GOP will reject a conservative candidate and go with a RINO I’ll get a bit more serious.
We are of a like mind. As I tell my spouse...all we have socked away is usable for everyday and the rest are assets.
As you say, best case scenario, we have a huge barbecue picnic for the neighborhood and spend a lot of time at the range. Better to have it and not need than to need it and not have it.
“Possible Collapse” hell! just as sure as Monday following Sunday it is coming. The fools, idiots, traitors, and parasites installed the mechanism in 2006 and 2008. In 2009, 2010 and 2011. The switches were turned on and the clock is running down. Right now they are trying to keep the sheep anestised until the 2012 election. Sometime after that, all hell will break loose.
I use to recommended an AK74 as a good SHTF weapon. The 5.45 rounds are effective and cheap. The gun is easily handle by another. The Bulgarian model I have is built as rugged as a AK47 and at the time it was CHEAP. I brought it two years ago $349.00 with three magazines. The same rifle is now sell on sell for $599.00. All I can add if you haven’t brought your weapon yet, you better by NOW!
If you're operating on a tight budget, a good alternative in .223 (or 7.62x39) is a Saiga .223 with a 16" barrel. It is a sporter version rifle made in the same factory as the AK-47. It is very tough and reliable. You can buy a lot of nice American after market parts and accessories, including 30 rd mags, tactical stocks, handrails, etc. The basic rifle can be bought new for about $300.
One caution though. If you choose to buy 30 round mags it changes it to an "assault rifle" and you then must change your installed parts configuration. This can be done very simply. If you buy US made 30 round mags (readily available), you will need to add at least one more major American made part (a TAPCO or other US made tactical stock or handrail will do). This is because of the crazy BATFE regs governing content of "assault weapons".
If you choose foreign made magazines, you will have to change out not one more part but 4 more parts. This further conversion can be done with readily available parts, but it will add cost and you may not want to bother or make the additional investment but it is possible.
Still, using US made mags, you can be totally outfitted quite easily for well under $500, including scope or electronic sight, and you won't need to practice your gunsmithing skills. All you'll need is your credit card and a screwdriver.
