I do not believe that the people of the United States are going to take people who have been here a quarter century, who have children and grandchildren, who are members of the community, who may have done something 25 years ago, separate them from their families and expel them. Im prepared to take the heat for saying, lets be humane in enforcing the law without giving them citizenship but by finding a way to create legality so that they are not separated from their families.
He added, I do believe if youve been here recently and have no ties to the U.S., we should deport you.
Newt did himself significant harm tonight on immigration among caucus and primary voters, tweeted Tim Albrecht, the spokesman for Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad (R).
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) called the proposal amnesty.

How do we know that? Since Newt’s positions change with the circumstances how do we know he is (or will be if elected) really any better than Romney?
The FR circular firing squad continues,
We aren’t doing a thing. It has been the easiest primary ever. Perry, Newt, Paul, Huntsman pretty much killed themselves.
Cain, Bachmann and Santorum are hanging in their
Romney just taking up space. Biggest loser of all.
Cain SHOULD be our Nominee for President of the United States of America. Bachmann SHOULD be our Vice President of the United States of America.
Newt SHOULD be our Press Secretary for President Cain.
Perry SHOULD be our Secretary of Energy.....he wants to dissolve the department but maybe he can cut it by 80 percent and make it efficient.
Santorum SHOULD be Secretary of Education....Again he want to dissolve this department as well but maybe he can cut it down by 90 percent.
Ron Paul SHOULD be Treasury Secretary.
Newt stepped in it big time on amnesty and nearly called us heartless, like Perry, for not agreeing with him. I am sick and tired of being accused of not having compassion, because I dont believe in rewarding illegal activity. I’m with Cain. He gave the best and most straightforward and practical answer to this issue.
By the way, Gingrich won't be on the ballot in Missouri because he didn't file in time.
I really wish she had gotten in the race, but that said, while she did oppose the dream act, she wasn't exactly Tom Tancredo on illegal immigration.
In fact, I'm not totally convinced any of them are, I hate this, but I suspect they are all very soft on illegal immigration, only their rhetoric differs.
What makes this amusing is that we had the amnesty of 1986—exactly 25 years ago. The USG estimated that one million would apply, but the true number turned out to be 2.7 million. So Newt’s example of a family of illegals who have been here for 25 years demonstrates that amnesty doesn’t work. They arrived right after an amnesty.
Assess people who flaunt our laws by entering illegally? They also commit other crimes such as working illegally, ID theft, lying on employment applications, driving illegally, tax evasion, etc. These are not the people who should be rewarded with citizenship. We have over 4 million intending immigrants waiting their turn overseas to enter. They have filled out all the required paperwork, had background checks, and physical exams. What kind of message does this send to them? Does the Rule of Law mean anything?
Newt is a Catholic and it is the policy of the bishops to shield those misunderstood illegal Catholics from South of the Border.
Our Immigration policy is a joke, and it needs to be fixed, or we'll continue to have the problems we have now. It's much easier for people to come into this country illegally, from ANYWHERE in the world, rather than wait for the slow wheels, and the capriciousness, of the Immigration bureaucracy.
Why sure, we could have a new department, The Department Of Illegal Alien Assessment. With at least 20 million illegals in this country, I would suppose you'd need at least 10,000 employees in the new department. I'm sure the taxpayers would not mind paying a few extra $billion at this point. Of course finding 10,000 people who could objectively assess the illegals "devotion to country and understanding of our principles" might be a real problem, and of course there would probably be money available to "assess" the right way.
Cut them off from all welfare and social programs.
One year minimum in federal prison for anyone employing an illegal.
Give the SEEBEES the job of physically securing the border and tell them that we know it can't be done.
Deport any illegal caught violating any law no matter how small
Cut off all federal funds to any state that allows any sanctuary for illegals.
That ought to clear things up.

The U.S. naturalizes more than one million new citizens each year. One million! Far more than any other country in the world. Do you really believe that one million a year is not enough?
Yes I have heard of him and he speaks truth, but it is also true the vast MAJORITY of Catholic bishops are illegal lovers and they influence their flock. I can tell many who is are Catholics on FR by reading the illegal threads, and looking for the ones wanting compassion.
Yes I know all Catholics do not support illegals and I am NOT bashing their religion, only their leaders who want us divided and weak.
Twenty-five years? Sure. I’ll consider it. As long as they all speak English.
See? Nothing to worry about.
lol! Does “Spanglish” count?
lol! Yeah -- Newt is a real great Catholic. How many times has he been married again?
Proud to be a heartless, inhumane hobbit, bitterly clinging to my guns and religion.
It must be so hard for our overlords to disguise their contempt for us when they want our votes.
