If I were a conspiratorialist, I’d suggest that maybe Gingrich really wasn’t running, but trying to take away support from another candidate so that the other candidate wouldn’t get the nomination.

Gingrich IS all about money, judging by the mail I’ve received from him over the past few years, discussing the latest crisis and how DONATING to whatever latest fund he has set up will help eliminate the problem.
So, I would not be surprised if someone is paying him WELL to stay in the race to take votes from others.
