*snip*
The former House speaker, who is putting a campaign organization together on the fly, failed to qualify for the contest in the Show Me State.
According to the Missouri Secretary of State's office, Gingrich did not file the necessary papers as of Tuesday's 5 p.m. deadline. That means his name will not be on the Feb. 7 ballot.
The filing requirements are not particularly onerous. A $1,000 check and some paperwork are all that's needed.

Well then, conservatives in the Show-Me state are going to have to rally to Cain and give him the victory in order to deny those delegates to Romney.
See above.
Great. I hope the fix is not in for Mittens in the show-me state. Show-me what who controls the delegates, then, if not a primary vote....interesting.
Because of rules agreed to by both major parties, all but a few states will be penalized by a reduction in national convention delegates if they hold their primaries before March 1. By law, Missouri's is in February; the state legislature didn't approve a move of the primary to March (another series of bungles), so the state Republican Party had to call for and approve caucuses. Hence, the March 17 caucuses will choose the state's delegates to the national convention.
The February 7 primary is a very expensive beauty contest - straw poll - and nothing more. The results that matter will come during the March 17 caucuses.
What do you mean? Herman Cain went up to New Hampshire and successfully filed his own delegate list.
Thanks, Prov3456.
So Newt’s choice makes sense.
Well, it isn’t the delegate contest, but still seems odd.
I’m worried about candidates here in Virginia, just because I’ve only seen one petition yet, for Herman Cain (I signed it, of course). I’ve even sent e-mails to several campaigns, and now Gingrich sends me lots of e-mails, but still nothing about getting petitions.
In 2008, Duncan Hunter failed to get enough signatures.
Thanks STARWISE.
Yes, the MO delegate contest is later in the campaign cycle.
I would add that Newt lags in funding.
No sense Newt spending his precious little money campaigning in MO in early February where he can't earn delegates.
That is why I have always called Newt the absent minded professor.
Amazing how many people don’t read the posts but instead just post their blather. Thanks for setting things straight.
The Missouri primary is less than meaningless.
The GOP tried to stop it, but the Democrat Secretary of State (a member of the hillbilly-criminal Carnahan family) insisted upon spending the millions of dollars and forcing the primary vote, which will not count because it is a month earlier than allowed.
Carnahan: Missouri should hold presidential primary
The Missouri presidential primary and the timing of it have prompted controversy this fall. State law currently schedules the primary on Feb. 7, which is about a month earlier than what now is allowed under rules set by the national Republican and Democratic parties.
To avoid jumbling the national presidential selection calendar and getting penalized by losing half its delegates at the national convention, the Missouri Republican Party has opted for a caucus process that starts in March. County caucuses select delegates, who can signal allegiance to a presidential candidate but are not required to do so, to attend congressional district conventions April 21 and the state convention June 2. At each of those meetings, roughly half of Missouri's delegates to the Republican National Convention will be selected and bound to support a presidential candidate.
oops
wow
Don’t worry, the smartest man in the world just jumped out with my knapsack...
LOL, good one!
Does he need write-in delegates too? It might not do him any good to be on the ballot if there are no delegates running as “Committed to Newt Gingrich.”
Now there may be delegates running as “Uncommitted” that pledge to support Gingrich if he wins the state primary or the congressional district. However this indicates Gingrich is not serious about running for President.
Sorry to disappoint you upchuck but MO is trying to do away with the primarys. Republican Party executive director Lloyd Smith said earlier this week that it has become obvious the GOP “will take necessary steps to select our delegates to the national convention in a way other than the primary.” Smith did not specify what those steps could be.
No matter what, Missouri currently is scheduled to hold an election Feb. 7 even if it is not used to award delegates to candidates.

So the people don’t have a voice in MO? Does the party take into account who wins the primary?
Sounds like Romney’s Missouri ancestors to me.
