JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Alluding to the scandal embroiling his ascendant campaign, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told a crowd in Jacksonville, Fla., Thursday that he would cheerfully answer every single question reporters had.
Following the event, however, he refused to answer any questions about the work he did for mortgage giant Freddie Mac.
In recent days, it has been revealed that Gingrich earned $1.6 million for work he did for Freddie Mac, the agency many blame for the housing bubble that preceded the financial crisis.
In the next three weeks I predict to you, well have all sorts of questions about me, he said. And its fine. You cannot ask the people of the United States to [give] you the most powerful governmental job in the world, particularly on a campaign that is promising very dramatic change, and not have them vet you carefully and thoroughly.

Okay, I read your response.
We have a different interpretation of the word ‘trashing.’
You call Governor Perry corrupt with no evidence.
You call him a Rino when he is totally conservative on every issue that’s important to me.
If you have some honest and defined critique to make of him, do it, but don’t just pop up on a Newt thread to take a potshot at Perry and expect me to respect you.
Onyx, it took me awhile before I realized the Freepathons were quaterly....I didn’t really search it out either. But I know now. So I think you’re right many don’t realize these are quarterly.
Almost all the anti-Perry’s are illegal haters. There is no reasoning with them.
Almost all the anti-Perry’s are illegal haters. There is no reasoning with them.
Here’s what I believe is corrupt about politics to power: a special interest, or donor if you prefer, gives big bucks to a candidate. That’s fine, and it is the way our system works. But later, after the candidate is elected, that donor gets special treatment in defiance of what the majority of voters want from their government.
Obama is doing this right now. Perry has been doing this all through his service as Governor.
The question I have for you is this: do you want to change how government operates in Washington, D.C., or do you want more of the same with just a change in names and party affiliation?
What part of “illegal” don’t you understand?
"If G*d did not exist mankind would be forced to invent Him."
Voltaire I think, might be wrong about that.
You were not contemplating running for the presidency. Newty’s been at this for at least a year. He’s touted as being oh so intelligent. If true, why couldn’t he figure out this association was bound to come up? Especially in light of the pervasive character assasination component to today’s politics. Perhaps, it’s another one of his “in- explicable” explanations.
I don’t see it as a scandal at all. Newty has a perfect right to associate with whom he wants.
However, this association does point to who Newt really is politically. Don’t you think anything that provides this kind of insight is useful for assessing what candidates will actually do as president?
Someone’s description of Newt as a big government libertarian, I believe, is right on the money.
Hey, your welcome. Anytime.
Please spare me the baloney that if I don’t vote for a RINO—in this case Newt—I’m responsible for a Marxist in the White House.
In any case, it is you and those like you who will have to come to conservatives to prevail over The Usurping Marxist Onada. Don’t you think it’s time we tried new faces in Washington? The old faces, and status quo, will not fix what is wrong with America.
Rush Limbaugh, too...I think he’s on his 4th marriage. And he’s not a conservative??? Give me a break.
I knew somebody who worked for a non-profit that hired consultants practically on a daily basis, spending insane amounts of money...and never doing a thing that the consultants recommended because that simply “wasn’t the way they did things.”
I don’t know what the point of the whole show was, but it was certainly nice for the consultants!
I think he’ll probably do that. None of these things were underhanded.
The organizations were all legitimate organizations that had hired him to provide them with advice - which they may or may not have followed - based on his time in Congress, his knowledge of policy and his success in implementing a program (Contract with America).
Oh, I understand what illegal is...I just don’t approve of electrocuting or gunning down illegals even if they do have a head start, unlike a number of freepers who approve of that.
Are you one of those?
One can support and protect the sanctity of marriage and be a conservative.
One can also divorce, due to impossible to resolve conflicts that may surface later in the marriage, and still support and protect the sanctity of marriage, as well as still have conservative principles and values.
Sometimes a divorce is better all around, and returns sanity to people's lives.
No, I’m not into killing people who have come here illegally.
If state’s would stop handing out welfare, free medical care, and food stamps to illegal aliens, and if landlords and employers were punished for hiring and sheltering illegals, then most would return to their nations of origin. Some would stay but eventually the really stupid ones would get caught.
The severest problem lies with those criminal aliens whose home nations refuse repatriation. Those criminals are literally left on our doorstep like unwanted rabid dogs, unfit for any society.
:) I will
