ABC News: Gingrich Defends Shifting Statements on Climate Change
Yahoo ^ | 11/18/11 | Amy Bingham | ABC News

Mitt Romney may be the GOP presidential candidate that is most often criticized for flip-flopping , but as Newt Gingrich rises to challenge him at the top of the polls, the former House speaker may also be giving him a run for his money on that label of inconsistency.

When it comes to global warming, Gingrich’s position seems to have changed faster than the climate.

...

In the more than 30 years since Gingrich was first elected to the House, he has said there is both sufficient evidence to prove the climate is changing and also that there is no conclusive proof. He supported a cap-and-trade program to limit carbon emissions and then later testified against it before a Congressional committee.

And while in the House he co-sponsored a bill that said climate change was “resulting from human activities,” but he later said he did not know if humans were to blame.

“There is no compelling evidence on either side to either rule it out or rule in it,” Gingrich’s spokesman R.C. Hammond said of the candidate’s position on global warming and the impact of man-made pollution. “But at the end of the day he’s somebody who does care about the environment.”

DiPeso said the Republican “orthodox” position on climate change is that “you can’t deal with this issue because it will kill the economy.”

“It’s politically dangerous for prominent Republicans to acknowledge climate change is real and that human activity plays a prominent role,” he said. ”It could be that Gingrich is just trying to play a political game and stick with the political orthodoxy to keep himself from being vulnerable to attacks.”

DiPeso added: “It’s not the first time he’s done that and it’s probably not going to be the last.”

"I know of very few true conservatives that bought man-made global warming

I said Global Warming not Man Made Global Warming (AGW). Are you saying that the science of the late 1990s and early 2000s did not make at least a plusable case for Global Warming? Question, on what basis, factual basis that is, did you conclude that the Earth was not warming in the late 1990s and early 2000's?

Over the years we’ve many assertions and presentations of evidence on climate change. The consesus on who are the climate experts has shifted around.

How could, over the years, someone not have had changing views on climate change.

Gingrich should recognize this and not try to make us think his views haven’t changed. I’m not paying close attention to this facet of Gingrich because his views on climate change aren’t radical.

You’re a follower obviously. Newt comes out in favor of socialized medicine and you decide something must be done for the poor folks. Newt feeds you the AGW manure and you decide that maybe there’s something to it.

Just a hunch but I suspect you think we need some kind of amnesty for illegal aliens too.

“It’s ok, all Gingrich has to do is be surly with a liberal media debate moderator and too many conservatives that can’t/won’t research will start masturbating.”

This is one of the more vile posts I’ve seen on FR in a long time. Certainly indicative of mental acuity and obsessions of the virulent anti-Newt crowed here.

So just as I suspected you can’t answer the question because you don’t know one damn thing about climate science. But you have no problem blasting away an issue you are totally ignorant of. Dido Health Care. Dido immigration.

Yup that’s one of the problems with Newt for sure... But can’t trust Romney on anything either. The Cain campaign is on life support and the rest are dead - but don’t know it yet. So what are you going to do?

Sometimes it looks like we’ve been served a crap sandwich... All you can do now is chew it with a smile.

At least Newt has had some significant conservative accomplishments while in office. For whatever comfort that might be worth...

As for Romney what was his conservative accomplishments while in office? Romneycare?

Cain’s never even held office and that’s not for a lack of trying... From what I’ve read his campaign for senate was pretty stellar...

This is exactly why I will never own another Dachshund.

Sure, they’re cute little heart warmers. They love with all of their little hearts. They don’t take up much space. They can be fun to play with and easy to carry around.

BUT, once they start to yap, most often for no reason at all, they will yap, yap and yap, and yap again. They yap and then yap at themselves for yapping....they are crazy little dogs. ;>)

Worse, I don’t care how much you try, they flat refuse to learn that they’re NOT supposed to crap IN the house. When they’re wet, they remind me of rats.

Shorty passed on and I now have a German Shepherd dog that allows me to live here. My Falco is not a barker, but on the rare occasion that he does bark, it is a serious bark and time to pay attention. Oh, and he hides his ‘duty’ in the tall grass near the tree-line.... never in the house.

Here, I see little ankle biting wiener dogs, yapping away, while they continue to crap in the house.

Cheers......

Vote for Newt......

Getting rid of the perpetual politicians is one of the issues that drew me to the tea parties.

-———————————————>

I am on the same page as you!

It makes me upset to see Newt Gingrich preaching to the choir.

My Tea Pot is about ready to explode.

Newt’s only career has been inside the DC Beltway. He is the problem, not the solution.

I’m going to vote for Newt. I’m not necessarily a supporter.

We all KNOW what we’re getting with Newt. I look back to how successful he was as Speaker and how he was able to move a conservative agenda through congress...WITH A DEMOCRAT PRESIDENT ... in record time.

No one else has the history.

The personal things are none of my business. He’s asked God to forgive, that’s between Newt and God and those who were personally invoved.

I am currently a Cain supporter. As it stands, all of the contenders have negatives, but that doesn’t make any of them all bad. One of them will be our presidential nomination, so I don’t discount any of them completely.

As for global warming, even learned climate researchers waffle on the issue, and some leading researchers have changed their minds about man-made global warming. So, it’s safe to say, that since Newt isn’t an expert in the field, he will waffle like millions of others do. I don’t believe in man-made global warming, but at one time I did.

It's called "TROLLING."

None of these "usual suspects" give damn about Newt or what is good for our nation when they make these posts, they are only doing it to elicit your responses. They see their prize heifer and his "Cain Train" going to the slaughter, so they are lashing out at Newt and at the same time deriving entertainment out of your spirited responses.

Don't feed the trolls.

Nothing they say is of any import. Newt will rise or fall by what happens on the campaign and in the press. The people who are out there supporting him are doing so IN SPITE OF his baggage, because he is by far the most knowledgeable and prepared candidate for the office. They trust his judgment, his experience, and his knowledge of our history and out government, none of which any of the other candidates can come close to matching.

Newt represents competent government, competent foreign policy, and conservative economic policy. I guess we'll find out soon enough is his ability outshines the baggage he carries with him.

Meanwhile, DON'T FEED THE TROLLS . . . unless you just enjoy it for its entertainment value. :)

I think it helps no one but the left if we continue down this road ripping our candidates to bits just because one sees their candidate dropping.

That is not directed at one candidates supporters either as I think there is a couple from all candidates who do this pure crap.

We have enough to deal with from the media, the left etc . I remember when Perry came up and some were attacking him , then Cain came up and some were ripping him while some who supported him ripped into those who did not and now it is happening to Newt.

It’s pathetic and childish IMHO especially when one sees certain posters on the board in a day putting up any kind of threads or posts just to attack on a certain candidate.

The only one I would hate to see is Paul for sure, and Romney for obvious reasons but I will not go and find some bad news in their past and then keep putting up on here.

on what basis, factual basis that is, did you conclude that the Earth was not warming in the late 1990s and early 2000's?

record snowfall ???

or simply by watching the weather and noting the record hi and low temps as being in the late 1800s-1920s for the most part, which kinda sorta indicates that the climate indeed changes, on its own, in cycles that we cannot control...

maybe i should get a few million in grant money to study it a bit deeper...

The current President has no experience of any kind ~ he’s not even a professional politician.
