A Pause in the Tebow Argument
To enjoy the conclusion of Thursday night’s Broncos-Jets game, you did not have to buy into the legend of Tim Tebow or care one whit about his religion or politics or the ridiculousness of the Tebowing craze. You didn’t even have to hate the Jets or detest the word “Sanchize,” although that would be a plus. Even without all of that, it was possible to sit back and marvel at how preposterous Tebow’s winning touchdown drive was, after 54 minutes of acting as if he had stumbled into a football game for the first time and decided to play quarterback.
Of course, to enjoy the conclusion of Thursday night’s Broncos-Jets game, you had to watch the first 54 minutes of two teams acting as if they had stumbled into a football game for the first time. But the ending was sublime, unless you’re a Jets fan, in which case we fear for the safety of your television screen.

Tebow is front and center in a major culture war right now.
I have a liberal friend (first mistake) that is a huge Broncos fan, yet hates Tebow, even though he is 4-1.
God is showing, thru Tim Tebow, what he can do.
It’s not as if Tebow has a decent offensive line, and offensive weapons to work with, maybe other than McGahee, when he’s healthy.
And at least he doesn’t throw interceptions like Orton was.
BTW, Mark Sanchez is the worst quarterback I’ve seen leading a major NFL franchise in the my lifetime.
He’s just a terrible passer, has terrible, girlish form on his throws and his release — in fact the only reason he isn’t picked off 5 times a game is that more often that not, neither his receiver nor the defensive back is anywhere near the pass.
I honestly agree with your assessment of Fox... until Tebow ran in for that touchdown last night... Fox seemed to change a bit in that moment. I still saw a concerned look on Elway’s face, but Fox was genuinely impressed.
We Gator fans knew all along that Tebow would be the man to beat in the pros.

Would not trade anything for the memory of the first time Tebow took the field at Florida, or any of the memories since. He is truly an exceptional young man.

Amen to that ... time of possession is a huge plus. Offense controlling the ball on sustained drives keeps the defense fresh. 3 & out Orton wasn't helping his defense ... Tebow is their hero.
Tebow still can’t make some of the essential NFL throws right now (over linebackers, under safeties), mostly because of the closing speed of NFL defenders. So I’m not sure he’ll be quite the passer that he was in college (he’s under 50% completions right now).
However, I don’t think it matters. He is very hard to defend in the two-minute drill. His teammates believe in him. He believes in himself.
It’s fun to watch, and I’m rooting for him every step of the way.
That was a great shot of Elway in his skybox last night after the Tebow score. Elway had a huge smile on his face not only because Denver took the lead in the closing seconds, but because he can rest assured that his passing records at Denver aren't about fall any time soon.
It's happened before. Trent Dilfer led the Baltimore Ravens to their Super Bowl championship in 2000, culminating in a 34-7 rout of the Giants in the Super Bowl in January 2001. The following season he couldn't even make the Ravens' roster, and he eventually signed with Seattle as their backup quarterback.
If Denver goes to the Super Bowl this year, it will be despite having Tim Tebow as their QB, not because of it.
At least Tebow hasn’t lined up behind the guard, like Elway did his rookie season.

I get a kick out of all the pundits making comparisons of him to other NFL quarterbacks, and saying “He just doesn’t have what it takes.” Well my question is, after they (the quarterbacks being compared to Tebow) had played a half dozen games were they the picture of perfection that the pundits pretend they were. Heck no, they were rookies and they needed practice, just like Tebow needs practice and can and hopefully will improve on his passing game.
He was an awesome college quarterback, but unfortunately he played a position where success at the collegiate level is the most difficult to translate to success at the NFL level.

As a Jets fan, I am amazed that Tebow get bashed so much. Mark Sanchez is one of the worst QBs I’ve ever seen. Every Jets victory is usually rescued from the jaws of his pick-6s by the defense. He makes boneheaded, drive-killing mistakes every week. Rex Ryan knows it, but was forced to walk back criticism after a media firestorm. Why? Sanchez SUCKS. Since there is no NFL Triple-A minor leagues, can we instead send Sanchez back to USC for a 5th year of remedial Quarterbacking?
How good were they doing with the ‘pocket passer’ Kyle Orton?
