Freddie Mac gave Bachmann money … while she was ‘fighting’ them (Bachmann responds)
Daily Caller ^ | 11/17/2011 | Matt K. Lewis

Rep. Michele Bachmann hit former Speaker Newt Gingrich hard on Wednesday for receiving consulting fees from mortgage giant Freddie Mac, but it turns out Bachmann herself received campaign contributions from The Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation’s (Freddie Mac) political action committee during the 2007-2008 cycle.

“While [Gingrich] was taking that money, I was fighting against Fannie and Freddie,” Bachmann said on Wednesday.

It turns out that while she was “fighting” them, she was also taking their money.

To be sure, there is a big difference between being paid millions to consult for the group — and receiving campaign contributions from Freddie PAC. Still, it appears Bachmann may be living in a bit of a glass house here — especially for someone who promised “no surprises.”

Update: Bachmann's camp tells me they may have returned the money after receiving the contributions. (I will update if that turns out to be the case.) If that does turn out to be what happened, it will also be interesting to note the timing of when the money was returned (the fact that they received at least two contributions — five months apart — makes me wonder).

The money to Michelle doesn’t count. She spent it all at the beauty shop

Yet in spite of that big difference, the author is happy to compare them as if they were apples to apples.

Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae “spread the love” all around DC....just like every other behemoth that has gotten its hooks into the US Treasury. Our “watchdogs” -Congresscritters-are in all of this up to their necks.

That’s why We the People in Flyover Country are only to be allowed “the right candidates”. Its devolved into a corrupt Soviet-Politburo election process as the RinoCracy is desperate to maintain the cover up of the cesspool in DC.

Running for President was not the smartest move she has made.

I used to think before see ran that she was in the neighborhood of Sarah, not Sarah but in the same breath.

However her campaign decisions make her look like an airhead.

Sarah Palin with all the attacks on her and they way she handled it would be an awesome adviser for someone who wants the nomination. Sarah versus Obama isn't even a fair fight considering Obama has 93% of the black vote.

Which is worse?

Getting campaign funds from ‘Freddie’ because either they agree with your legislative outlook or want you to agree with theirs.

-OR-

Consulting the group as a private citizen, allowing them to purchase your expertise in the minutiae of Congress?

One of those apples has more worms in it than the other - but which one?

RE: However her campaign decisions make her look like an airhead.

Can you cite some examples?

Which is worse? Being approached by FM asking for a historical analysis of housing issues for a fee or speaking against FM while taking campaign contributions from FM. IMHO, the latter is more onerous upon Bachmann. Good old capitalism versus slight of hand double dealing.

Correct! The real story behind these laundromats is this. Dodds and Frank and Durbin. Nothign being said about those ass clowns. They should be imprisoned along with all of those that created this housing fiasco.

“considering Obama has 93% of the black vote”

Absolute proof that the vast majority of blacks vote along racial lines.

That is the primary reason that the White House is so scared of Herman Cain. He would attract many, many blacks, but not only because of the color of skin, but because of his conservative politics. Too many would leave the democratic plantation if Cain runs against Obama. Obama also loses.

I don’t think it is.

I do think ‘Freddie’ either agreeing with your legislative outlook and thus supporting your campaign - or hoping to influence your legislative outlook via supporting your campaign is MUCH worse.

And making an issue of it when her hand is way inside the cookie jar just shows how ‘not ready for prime time’ she is.

It is illegal for corporations to make campaign contributions to federal candidates. Usually when the media say corporation X gave money to Congressman Y, it means that individuals working for the corporation gave money. Is that what happened here? If so, I have no problem with it.

Well-stated. Thanks.

It was the corporation’s PAC, not the corporation itself. That’s completely legal.

Which means the headline for the article is false because it was individuals who gave the money not the corporation itself.
