Yes, you should. Remember this: Always treat a gun as loaded even if you are 150% sure it’s not. Never point a gun at anything you do not intend to wound or kill. You will be just fine.

Yikes, I went back and reread my response, does sound like maybe I shot out a couple of her windows....LOL also I had fun shooting my shotgun, Number 1 check the safety, if red is showing safety is not on. thats why he said remember red is dead....put the safety on before you go any farther...he was real patient with me...

Did you guys hear there is an Occupy Muncie? Muncie Indiana! They took over the county building. Still there as far as I know even after they cut the power off.

I don’t think these freaks are ever gonna go home unless they get the water hoses turned on them.

I hate winter but some snowstorms would nice. They made a scene in Chi today, standing in the middle of a bridge during rush hour.

Picture this:::: the house is dark, the bad guy got in though a window in the kitchen, he heads down the hallway to find the master bedroom and as he gets to the bedroom door, he hears that trusty old shot gun being racked, granny is behind the bed that is between the door and granny. Now does he run, crap his pants, does both or is stupid enough to take another step and meet his maker...

The only bad part is the clean up, if he doesn't run, must be done by professionals. I ain't cleanen up that mess...At 10 foot I think I couldn't miss, hell I wouldn't even have to be a good aimer...GG

Granny, only difference in your scenario and mine is, I will be aiming a .45 single/double action and the perp will not know what’s comin’ ... I don’t want the scoundrel running away. I want him carried away so he can never do it to anyone else. I’m an old toot, so I’ll take my chances to do social work.

BTW, please aim, ‘cause even at ten feet the shot pattern is no larger than the mouth of a tea cup, unless you’re firing a blunderbuss.

That’s not entirely true, I have caught trout with a 12 gauge.

Eliminate the cleanup hassle. Use bullets that absorb 6000 times their weight in blood.

According to my uncle, who was a police chief, a shotgun is the preferred home defense weapon because a solid round could easily go to the neighbor’s house and kill someone there.

“”According to my uncle, who was a police chief, a shotgun is the preferred home defense weapon because a solid round could easily go to the neighbor’s house and kill someone there.””

I guess I’d better brush up on it then. We relocated from Southern CA to GA 5 years ago and we thought our opportunities to go to the range would be limitless here. Didn’t work out that way. My husband has to go 1 hour away to a Wildlife Management area north of us to get in time at the outside range with his rifles.

This is something that bothers me so I guess I’d better “bite the bullet” and familiarize myself with the shotgun.

Thanks.

“I wasn’t interested in continuing.”

A big problem with shooters new to shotguns is that they start off with “full house” loads that have eye opening recoil. On the other hand target and recreational shooters shoot hundreds of rounds without so much as a bruise. Often they reload to get maximum effect with least recoil. Granted they are shooting clay targets but the loads are very effective yet comfortable. So look for a club with shotgun courses such as skeet, trap, 5 -stand and sporting clays. You will be surprised how readily you are accepted and asked to shoot a round or two free. Then you will be off and running but it can get expensive. Good luck and fear not.

LOL! I have to try that. Obviously the ammo I'm using is not large enough.

My husband bought one for me - at least he calls it “your shotgun” but after shooting it in the CA desert one time, I wasn’t interested in continuing.

Common mistake we guys usually make in wanting to be helpful and shopping for our wives' first gun. Either too much or too little. You need to go along, handle them, shoot them if possible and pick it out. Either that or it's cover to buy a few more for ourselves when trying to *look* helpful ;-)

I didn’t know you knew my husband.

It would have been my “first” shotgun but I’m pretty well covered with others; revolvers are favorite - never automatics. I don’t like jams.

I don’t think it smells like lasagna in that county building....

I hope they get eaten by the inevitable cockroach (a higher form of life) infestation.
